A strong resistance instantly built inside Ethan hearing someone call his full name.

"Did you have anything to do with the strange texts I have been receiving?"

The silence that brewed from Aiden said it all. He was guilty as charged.

Anger sipped through every bit of Ethan's vines, memories of his suffering and that of his mom the only thoughts that flourished in his mind and they were never pleasant.

"I know you don't want anything to do with your father Ethan, but how about you get to hear the other side of the story?

At least a benefit of doubt would do!"

The words sank deep into Ethan's mind and his hands eased. This man had saved him and even though he wanted to escape, after watching the earlier scene, he definitely wouldn't be able to put up a fight.

"You better make it quick!" Ethan snapped.

Ethan climbed into the car, his chest felt heavy, like someone had planted a weight inside him.

Alden didn’t speak. He just drove. The city lights slipped past, then disappeared. Darkness swallowed the roads. Mountains rose ahead, massive and silent.

“Where are we going?” Ethan asked.

“To the place your life should have started,” Alden said. Eyes forward, calm, unshakable. “Once you step inside, ordinary ceases to exist.”

Ethan swallowed.

The drive went on. Hours passed and they finally got to a tall estate at the edge of the city.

Such that only existed in the description of books, lined with all sorts of precious gems.

Ethan gawked at the sight.

The gates pulled open as though obeying a command, and guards lined every corner bowing as they chanted a single statement.

"Welcome back home Prince Ethan!"

Confusion ran deep into Ethan's vines. He wasn't no prince, he should not even be here. It felt wrong in every sense to experience this magnitude of luxury.

He was just Ethan, poor and betrayed.

The car stopped at the sprawling estate and walked through long halls. Ethan followed, mind spinning, rage simmering under the surface.

Finally, they got to a sealed office, just the two of them. Alden gestured for him to sit and a long sigh escaped from his lips.

“Your father did not abandon you,” Alden's voice was controlled . “He never ran."

Ethan froze, definitely not believing a word of what the old man spoke.

"But my mother… she said—”

“She hid you. To protect you. Your father had so many enemies.

You were a target from birth for the only son of…, your mother needed to keep you safe, and also lied to you to stop you from asking too many questions as you have always been a sensitive child!" He added.

"You're lying and I'm leaving. If this was true, my mother would have told me before her death!"

He turned around to leave but then, a voice played through an electronic speaker instantly causing him to pause.

He would recognize that voice anytime any day. His mother's.

Emotions bottled into his eyes.

"If you're seeing this, it means your father is back for you. I'm sorry I had to lie but it was all I had to do to keep you safe!"

Those words were supposed to comfort him but they only made Ethan's anger flare up.

"You forged my mother's voice to put up with such rotten claims?" He thundered.

And wanted to flare up even more but he paused when he heard me.

"Migo!" The secret code name his mother usually called him when he was tired, frightened, confused... A name that was only known between the both of them.

And she had said if anyone came with that name, he should believe whatever they told him.

"You see young master, I have brought you nothing but the truth! Migo, your father's middle name!" He noted.

Ethan's world flattened right before his eyes. His heart drooped and his skin crawled.

All the hatred that he had mustered over the years...

Ethan’s fists clenched. “So all these years… my life… lies?”

“Protection,” Alden said. “Not lies. Not betrayal. Just survival.”

Ethan’s voice trembled. “So I was hidden… because I was weak?”

“No,” Alden snapped. “Because you were too young. Too unprepared. You need time to grow, learn and survive.

Only then could you face the world and your enemies.”

Ethan’s eyes narrowed. “And my father? Who is he!" Ethan inquired.

"The first War God. Kia Migo Collard!"

The air instantly stiffened. Kai Collard, everything suddenly made sense.

He had read about him in books, his bloodline was said to have a special trait, one that made them powerful and able to fight wars and conquer nations.

But if history is correct that bloodline was supposed to end with him! Because he's childless and has refused to bear any children!"

"So I am the continuation of that bloodline

Then why am I not strong, why isn't my so-called father not here, why did you choose to reveal all of this to me by this time, what if I want to continue with my life!" Ethan blurted out so many questions all at the same time.

"Ethan, your father really wishes to be here! But he cannot do so without jeopardizing your location.

And the might in your bloodline isn't activated until you intentionally start training for it. That's part of the reason I am here.

And finally, war is brewing and the only way you can be protected is by letting you know all of this!"

All this information, they came crashing down like a ton of bricks on Ethan, and threatened to tear him apart.

"I know this's a lot, you definitely need time to think."

He drew out a card from his pockets and handed it to him.

"This is free access to all government property and a bank account worth a billion dollars. Your ability to build is also part of the test.

Your father is giving one of his companies to run. Stafford enterprise!"

Ethan's being frozen at those words. Stafford was a company envied by everyone. Even his boss would dearly come close to the company's premises and now it was his?

Thoughts ran through his mind, his chest heavy and now, Ethan felt like someone totally new.

"Once your training is complete, you will see your father!"

Ethan could only give a silent nod.

Aiden paused and after a few moments, he leaned forward, his voice calm, controlled. “Prince Ethan, tonight, those who humiliated you are having a private meeting. Do you wish to humiliate them without jeopardizing your identity?"

Ethan’s stomach tightened. “Damien and Lila?"

Aiden nodded. "They are celebrating your downfall?"

"And I was thinking about a little visitation!"
