Calyn had had many teachers over the years guiding her both in fighting and in her ascension through the tiers. At the start, he'd always be firm as a mountain, unwilling to be moved by anything or anyone. As soon as one part of him was taken away, however, it'd be like the first domino in a sequence. A willpower battle is a strange thing. There are no blows exchanged. No punches, no kicks, and no weapons that one can wield with expertise to grant them an advantage over one's foe. From a certain perspective, it's almost comical just how childish a willpower fight could be. One says uh-huh, and the other answers nuh uh, in an endless loop. To master a law was to learn that truth and figure out a way to subvert it by substituting it with your own truth. The length of each step you take is largely a function of how long your legs are. If a space mage that has mastered the laws of space, however, asserts that the space between one step and the next is a kilometer, the truth of space is subverted. And thus in taking that single step, they cross a kilometer. The length of their legs becomes largely immaterial because, at the level of law, they have asserted that a different truth and mundane reality has no choice but to comply. But then, wasn't there a contradiction in that theory? Can one change what truth is? If whenever you so wish, you can change what 'true' is, then is it really true?
