CH. 1 (Cheating and Betrayal)

"Breaking news! The grand patriarch of the Moxley’s empire, has been diagnosed of a fatal heart disease, and it’s only a matter of time before he dies, and then the Moxley’s name goes into extinction as there is no one left in his bloodline to succeed him.”

“What a life?” Harry Parker sighed as he sat in a Faliscan restaurant. He zoomed in and out on the photo that was in the article where he had seen the news and couldn’t help but shake his head in pity. There was a man who owned almost everything in the world and yet, has no one to call family.

Just then, a voice rang out beside him. "We're about to close up for the night, sir. Would you like to continue waiting?"

Thunder clapped outside the window, and the rain grew heavier. Harry looked out, his expressionless face reflected on the glass.

It was his wife’s birthday today, but he couldn't bring himself to feel happy as if it was his. He'd booked Hailey Riven's favorite restaurant half a month before this birthday. Then, he'd spent several hours speaking to the chef about her favorite dishes.

On the day itself, he'd woken up at 5:00 am to get dressed and ready for the date. Finally, he'd arrived at the restaurant with Hailey's favorite vanilla cake.

It was her birthday, and he'd chosen to go with all of Hailey's favorites for the celebration. She'd yet to arrive at the restaurant, but he didn't dare disturb her because he knew how busy she was. So, he'd waited until the sky had turned dark and the lights had come on.

He'd waited until the server kept asking whether to serve the dishes, until the exquisite dishes had gone cold, and until his warm heart had frozen over. Yet, Hailey was still nowhere in sight.

He had spent almost all his savings to make this evening special and memorable for Hailey, and he couldn’t help but imagine the surprise in Hailey’s face when she gets to see how much he had put in to make the birthday a special one for her.

Harry looked down at the old man in the photo again, his lips curving into a self-deprecating smile. He then looked at his wrist watch, and found out that he had been waiting at the restaurant the entire day.

Suddenly, Harry felt exhausted. He didn't want to wait for her anymore and didn’t feel the need to call and ask her what was holding her back, as it wasn’t the first time that something like that would be happening, and he was getting fed up with it already.

He smiled at the server. "No, thanks. I'm not going to wait any longer. None of these dishes have been touched. Can I get an umbrella in exchange for them? Thanks."

Harry walked out into the rain with an umbrella over his head. He hailed a cab and got in. He leaned against the window and stared at the rain, his thoughts wandering.

He came from a poor family and was orphaned at a young age. Without the Riven family's sponsorship, he wouldn't have gotten a proper education. Even after making it out of the countryside based on his hard work, he hadn't forgotten the help the Rivens had given him.

He'd met Hailey during a charity banquet. She'd been seated elegantly, the light leaving half her face in shadows. Her eyes had glinted coldly, and her demeanor had given one the feeling that she was unapproachable.

Harry had seen her from afar, but that was enough to make him feel like he was being sucked into her gaze. His heart had raced. Upon seeing the name plaque before her and realizing who she was, he'd mustered the courage to approach her so he could thank her.

She'd looked at him before sipping her champagne. Then, she'd asked why he was there. He'd taken a deep breath before conveying his gratitude for the Riven family's help over the years.

When she'd heard that he wanted to repay her family's kindness, she'd appraised him, her gaze slightly unfocused from the liquor. Then, she'd chuckled. "You want to repay me, huh? I don't lack money or power, but I do need a man I can bring around with me. Are you going to repay me with your body?"

In that instant, he'd felt shocked and lost. Ultimately, he'd still agreed when he realized how quickly his heart was beating.

There hadn't been any proposal, ring, wedding, or announcement about their matrimony. Harry and Hailey had merely registered the marriage.

Perhaps it was because of how easily she'd won him over that she couldn't care less about him after the marriage, or the fact that he was poor.

He'd tried hard to make his way into her heart over the past three years, but the door remained locked. He had decided to use this birthday as a way to win Hailey over once again. To make her realize that he loves so much, but then, she had failed to show up even after he had called to tell her about the date earlier that day.

Arriving at Hailey's office, where he believed Hailey would still be working late into the evening, given how much she was dedicated to the family’s business at the expense of their marriage, Harry was intercepted by Hailey's secretary who coldly informed him that Hailey was in the middle of a meeting and could not be disturbed.

"I beg your pardon, miss. I'm not just anybody. I'm her husband," Harry reminded the secretary.

"I'm sorry sir, but I'm merely following orders."

But as Harry lingered, he could hear sounds coming from his wife's office.

"Oh come on baby, thrust harder and don't stop!"

"Trust me, you haven't seen anything yet,"

"Oh my! This is heaven!"

“Oooh, right there. Oooh!”

“Mmmh! Do you like that, Baby?”

“Uhhh, yes! I like that a lot. Don't stop baby.”

This is no damn meeting, Harry thought as moans and groans accompanied the voices he was now hearing, coming out of his wife's office.

Harry, ignoring the secretary's protest, forced his way past her, unable to hold back the feeling of unease that suddenly gnawed at him.

Without knocking, he pushed the door open and then he blinked.

Harry's smile immediately disappeared, as his gaze fell upon the most shocking sight for any married man.

Hailey, his wife was bent over, her back arched deeply as a man who was grunting like his life depended on it, thrust forcefully into her from behind over and over again as his hands squeezed her breasts like they were disobedient squishy toys.

“What the hell?”
