Jeremy immediately approached the woman. His steps were quick yet measured, showing neither defensiveness nor aggression.

“Excuse me,” he said politely, his voice low and steady. “Is there a problem?”

The woman turned around. Her gaze was cold and sharp, laced with anger she made no effort to hide. Those eyes swept over Jeremy’s face as if assessing him, then stopped without softening in the slightest.

Jeremy frowned faintly. That reaction was far from what he had expected.

“I’m sorry,” he said again, this time more cautiously. “Is there some kind of misunderstanding?”

The woman did not answer right away. Her chin lifted slightly, her posture stiff and distant.

“Is this your car?” she finally asked, her tone flat but cutting.

Jeremy glanced briefly at his car, then looked back at her and answered, “Yes.”

“Then move it. My item fell and it’s under that car now,” the woman said coldly.

Jeremy instinctively lowered his gaze, peering under the car. His brows knitted tighter. From his pers

Daniel was the first to stand, closing the thin folder he had been carrying from the start.“In that case, I’ll contact you again as soon as the meeting schedule with the potential buyer is set,” he said with a professional smile.“Alright,” Jeremy replied briefly, not forgetting to thank him.He escorted Daniel to the front of the shop. After the man got into his car and drove away, Jeremy turned and walked back inside. The store was still relatively calm, with only a few customers browsing the shelves. He approached Simon, who was still faithfully standing behind the cashier counter. Mark was there as well.“As you both know, I intend to sell this shop. So it will be changing ownership soon.”Simon didn’t react excessively. He simply gave a small nod, his expression steady. Mark, on the other hand, wore a visibly unsettled look.“Whether the system will remain the same or change, I don’t know yet,” Jeremy continued. “That will depend on the new owner. You should be prepared for the

The next day passed faster than Jeremy had expected. That morning, he wrapped up several urgent matters at the headquarters ahead of schedule. Two meetings were compressed into one, and one report was signed with barely any revisions. After that, he stopped by the main retail store to make sure operations were running smoothly, just a brief inspection, enough to confirm everything was still on track. When the clock neared midday, Jeremy went to his manager’s office.“I’ll be taking a half-day off,” he said plainly. It didn’t sound like a request, more like a notification. The manager glanced at the calendar, recalling everything Jeremy had handled recently. This time, he didn’t make things difficult. He nodded and replied, “Alright. There’s nothing important scheduled for this afternoon.”Jeremy offered a brief thanks and left.It had been almost a month since he had truly set foot in the small shop. His car stopped in front of the modest storefront, its signboard still the same, sli

Lucas strode out of the Guava Hotel with his jaw clenched. The bright lobby lights were left behind, replaced by the cold, biting night air.The car door shut with a heavy thud, and the moment the engine started, a taut silence filled the cabin. His assistant sat in the front seat, hesitant to speak. Every so often, his gaze flicked to the rearview mirror, catching the shadowed reflection of Lucas’s darkened expression. Those words echoed again in Lucas’s mind, looping like a broken recording. The person we’re trying to recruit… Jeremy. His fingers slowly curled into a fist against his thigh. A muscle twitched at his temple.Jeremy.That name alone was enough to make his teeth grind. The man he had always looked down on. The one he had shoved aside, mocked, dismissed as nothing more than someone who existed to inflate his sense of superiority. And yet, it turned out that he was the brain behind that damn retail rebranding.Lucas let out a short, humorless laugh.“So he really is capab

Jeremy slowly set his glass down, then gave a small shake of his head.“Mom, I haven’t thought that far ahead. I’m still young. Right now, it’s better for me to focus on my career,” he said calmly and clearly.Hannah didn’t respond right away. Instead, her gaze softened, lingering on her son’s face longer than usual. She noticed the way Jeremy sat upright but stiff, the way his fingers unconsciously pressed against the edge of the table, and how the faint smile he’d just shown felt a little too neat, a little too controlled. In her heart, Hannah let out a quiet sigh.It wasn’t that Jeremy didn’t want to. It was that he hadn’t healed yet.She remembered all too clearly how her son had changed after that incident. He didn’t talk much. He didn’t complain, didn’t get angry. No matter how harshly his father treated him, he simply accepted it with calm maturity.Jeremy just worked. Harder than anyone else. More disciplined, more serious. As if by constantly moving, constantly staying busy,

Silence filled the interior of the car for a while. Only the smooth, rhythmic hum of the engine accompanied the city lights sliding past the windows.Thomas was the one who finally broke it.“Your mother wants to have dinner together,” he said flatly, as if stating a routine agenda.Jeremy blinked slowly, not expecting his father to say nothing at all about the fight earlier. There was a brief pause before he nodded.“Alright.”He was keenly aware of how long it had been since he last saw his mother. Not because he was unwilling, but because his days had been carved up by meetings, reports, targets, and one crisis after another. His phone was filled with messages he hadn’t had time to reply to, and one of them was certainly from her.The car slowed and turned into a parking area in front of a restaurant whose sign was familiar to Jeremy. The lettering was simple, understated, yet always felt warm.It was the place his mother chose whenever she needed to “breathe for a moment.”As soon
