For fifteen years, Austin Miller has lived only for revenge. At seven, he watched ruthless crime lord Gabriel López murder his mother in cold blood. But the breach triggers a deadly manhunt. A desperate escape ends in a catastrophic crash that leaves Austin in a coma—and erases the one memory he needs most: the location of the hidden evidence. Hunted by a merciless syndicate, betrayed by allies, and haunted by fragments of his past, Austin must recover his memories before Gabriel destroys him. With his loyal girlfriend Millie, steadfast friend Jake, and a determined detective by his side, he races through shadows where every step could be fatal. As revenge and justice blur, Austin faces the ultimate choice: will destroying his enemy cost him everyone he loves?

Chapter 1: The Hunter Becomes Hunted

The weight of what he’d done over the past few days wouldn't leave him alone.

Austin stood beside the matte-black sports motorcycle outside the apartment garage, gloved hands resting on the clip-on handlebars, eyes locked on the alley exit. To anyone passing by on the sidewalk, he looked like any other twenty-two-year-old getting ready for an entry-level desk job; the lanyard hanging from his belt still read *Vanguard Real Estate Consultants*. But beneath the leather jacket, every muscle in his body was coiled tight.

He had rehearsed this morning a hundred times in his head. *Leave early. Take the long way. Act normal. Don’t look over your shoulder.*

He looked anyway.

Across the street, a delivery truck offloaded wooden pallets at the curb. A transit bus hissed as it settled against the pavement. An elderly man argued animatedly with a parking enforcement officer. Everything looked ordinary. He hated ordinary—it was the best mask for someone waiting in ambush.

The metal door behind him swung open, its heavy hinges scraping against the frame.

“You’ve been staring at the road for five minutes,” Millie said. She walked toward him in a light denim jacket, white blouse, and dark jeans, holding two travel mugs. She extended one toward him with a quiet smile.

“Just checking traffic,” he said, taking the mug.

“The sky is clear, Austin.” Her smile faded slightly as she looked closer at his face, her thumb brushing gently against the dark circles beneath his eyes. “You didn’t sleep again.”

“Slept fine.”

“Take the car today,” she urged softly, nodding toward the silver sedan parked two stalls down. “You’ve been jumpy all week. If something is going on at the office—”

“Nothing’s going on,” he interrupted gently, capturing her hand to reassure her. “The bike’s just faster through the downtown corridor. I promise I’ll drive carefully. I’ll bring you home tonight.”

Millie searched his eyes for a long moment, looking for the truth behind his calm posture. Finally, she let out a quiet breath and reached for her helmet. “Fine. But if you scare me on the avenue, you’re cooking dinner.”

Moments later, she climbed onto the passenger seat behind him, securing her strap. Austin pressed the starter button, and the engine turned over with a deep, mechanical hum. He glided down the short ramp and merged smoothly into the morning flow on Harbor Avenue.

The city was in full motion. Glass skyscrapers reflected the rising morning sun, street vendors called out to rushing commuters, and transit buses crowded the center lanes.

Millie tightened her arms around his waist, resting her chin against his shoulder blade. “You’ve been quiet since we left the garage.”

“Just focusing on the road,” he called back over the rush of the wind.

He stuck to his usual route, his eyes moving in a disciplined rhythm—checking the left mirror, the right mirror, the side streets, the pedestrians on the crosswalks.

Two blocks back, a dark Ford Explorer with heavy window tint switched lanes directly behind them. It held a clean three-car gap. Austin eased off the throttle slightly to test the distance; the Explorer backed off instantly, holding the exact same spacing.

He kept his expression neutral, but his grip tightened on the handlebars.

At the next major intersection, instead of continuing straight toward his usual financial district exit, Austin made an unannounced, sharp right turn onto 4th Street—a narrow commercial bypass flanked by older brick warehouses.

Millie leaned closer to his helmet. “This isn’t the usual way.”

“Just bypassing traffic,” he said.

He checked his left mirror. The black Explorer made the exact same turn, cutting across a lane of traffic to stay on his tail. Fifty yards ahead, a second black SUV rolled slowly out of a loading bay, stepping into the center of the street to block the lane.

The trap was springing.

Austin’s pulse stayed steady, but a cold knot tightened in his gut. They hadn't stumbled onto him by accident today. They had been sweeping the district for days, and the perimeter was finally pulling shut.

He glanced into his side mirror again. The passenger window of the trailing SUV rolled down just an inch. Through the gap, he caught sight of a cold, familiar face staring directly at him—Gabriel’s lead enforcer.

Millie felt Austin’s posture go rigid against her. “Austin... why is that SUV blocking the road?”

His voice went flat, cold, and stripped of all lightness. “Hold on to me, Mil.”

“What’s happening? Who are they?”

Without answering, he reached down with his left thumb and flipped the custom handlebar toggle, engaging the aftermarket ECU track mode. The steady, low hum of the engine exploded into a harsh, aggressive snarl that echoed off the surrounding warehouse walls.

The SUV ahead accelerated to close the remaining gap in the lane, while the vehicle behind surged forward to pin them from the rear.

“Cling to me,” Austin said, his jaw setting as his fingers locked around the throttle grip. “Don't let go.”

He twisted the grip to the stop, and the motorcycle launched straight into the narrowing space.
