The air outside the gala felt thin and cold compared to the heated, ego-drenched atmosphere of the ballroom, but for Bara, the night was far from over. He stood by the curb, his tuxedo jacket slung over one shoulder, while Sari clung to his arm. She was still vibrating from the thrill of the take-down.

"You really embarrassed them," Sari said, her eyes wide. "I don't think I've ever seen Adrian look so much like a cornered rat. You actually did it, Bara."

Bara checked the System interface, which was pulsing with a faint, rhythmic amber glow. —Objective: Expansion. Next Essence: Cabai. Location: The Iron Cellar.—

"The night is young, Sari," Bara said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. He felt a surge of possessiveness and warmth—the Heart of the Loyal humming in his chest. "But I have one more errand to run. It's a bit rough around the edges, so I want you to head back to the apartment. I’ll meet you there in an hour."

Sari hesitated, biting her lip. "The Iron Cellar? Bara, that’s where the city’s worst go to break bones for sport. It’s not a boardroom."

"Exactly," Bara grinned, that dangerous, sharp smile flickering again. "And I need to learn how to fight, not just how to analyze a spreadsheet."

He hailed a taxi, gave her a gentle squeeze, and watched her go before turning toward the docks. The Iron Cellar was a literal basement under a warehouse, smelling of stale sweat, cheap tobacco, and the metallic tang of dried blood. As he descended the concrete stairs, the bass of the underground music vibrated in his teeth.

Ratu was there, leaning against a rusted support beam. He was nursing a bandaged wrist—the one Bara had snapped two nights ago. When he saw Bara walking into the dim, strobe-lit ring, his eyes widened, then narrowed into slits of pure malice.

"Well, look who decided to crawl out of his fancy suit," Ratu spat, pushing off the wall. He snapped his fingers, and two massive goons stepped out from the shadows, cracking their knuckles. "You think you’re a big man now because you crashed a party? This isn't the stock market, kid. Here, you can't talk your way out of a broken jaw."

Bara walked into the center of the grit-stained ring, tossing his jacket onto a pile of trash. He felt exhausted—the Market Foresight and the Heart of the Loyal had drained his stamina more than he’d anticipated—but the System was insistent. —Target: Cabai Essence. Acquisition method: Survival/Dominance.—

"I’m not here to talk, Ratu," Bara said, settling into a stance he had only seen in training videos an hour ago, yet his body replicated it with eerie, fluid perfection. "I’m here for the Cabai. Hand it over, and maybe I’ll leave you with the use of both hands this time."

Ratu roared, a sound of pure, unadulterated annoyance. "Get him!"

The two goons charged. They were large, slow, and relied on brute force. The first one swung a fist that could have leveled a wall. Bara ducked, the motion feeling like a slow-motion dance. He could see the wind-up of the punch, the slight shift in the man’s weight, the tell-tale sign of a sluggish pivot.

Bara stepped inside the guard, slamming his palm into the man’s solar plexus. The air left the goon’s lungs in a pathetic wheeze, and he folded like a lawn chair.

"One down," Bara muttered, breathing hard. The second goon didn't hesitate, rushing in with a tackle.

Bara sidestepped, but he was slower than before. His stamina bar in the corner of his vision was flickering red. —Warning: Physical fatigue at 40%.—

The second goon tackled him, and they went down in a cloud of dust and grit. Bara scrambled, throwing elbows and knees, his movements desperate but precise. He felt a blow connect with his ribs—a sharp, white-hot spike of agony—but he didn't stop. He hooked his leg behind the goon’s ankle and twisted, forcing the man to the floor, then pinned him with an arm-bar that made the rafters ring with the sound of a painful pop.

Bara stood up, his shirt torn, his ribs screaming in protest. He looked at Ratu, who was standing there with a mixture of shock and reluctant amusement.

"Not bad," Ratu grunted, stepping forward. "You’ve got heart, I’ll give you that. And you’re crazy. I like crazy."

Bara wiped blood from his lip, his eyes glowing with that faint, molten gold. "The Cabai, Ratu."

Ratu reached into his jacket and pulled out a small, intricately carved crimson vial. He tossed it through the air. Bara caught it, feeling the liquid inside—the Cabai Essence—searing with the intensity of a dying sun.

—Essence Acquired: Cabai. Effect: Drastic increase in combat reflexes and physical durability.—

As the liquid absorbed into his palm, a wave of liquid fire rushed through Bara’s veins. His bruised ribs stopped throbbing, the soreness replaced by a tingling, supercharged vitality. He stood taller, his shoulders snapping back into a lethal, relaxed posture.

Ratu stared at him, his face losing its bravado. He took a step back, sensing the change in the atmosphere. The "kid" who had walked in looking like a tired office worker was now vibrating with a quiet, terrifying lethality.

"You're not just some lucky gambler, are you?" Ratu whispered, his voice losing its edge.

Bara capped the vial, his eyes boring into Ratu’s. "I'm the guy who’s going to own this city by the time the next quarter ends. You’re lucky I’m a fan of efficiency, Ratu. If you get in my way again, I won't just break your wrist."

Ratu swallowed hard. He looked around to ensure his remaining men weren't listening, then moved closer to Bara, his voice dropping to a low, frantic murmur.

"Listen to me, you arrogant punk. You’re playing with fire, and you have no idea who’s holding the matches," Ratu hissed. "The people you’re fighting? The Adrians of the world? They’re just the puppets. There’s a group of Elders, families that have held the keys to this city since the foundation was poured. They don't just move stocks; they move lives. And they don't like it when someone starts digging into their foundations."

Bara tilted his head, his gaze unblinking. "Elders? Sounds like a fairy tale."

"It's a graveyard," Ratu countered, his eyes wide and jittery. "They’re watching the gala feed right now. They know about your little display. They’re coming for you, Bara. Not with goons in suits—with things you can't fight with just a clever insult and a bit of stock market data."

Ratu leaned in so close Bara could smell the stale tobacco on his breath. "Whatever system you're using, whatever dragon-shit you’ve got in your head... hide it. Because when the Elders decide you’re a problem, they don't call the police. They just erase you."

Bara felt the dragon in his chest stir, a low, rumble of amusement echoing in his mind. He wasn't afraid. He felt like the predator who had just realized the forest was finally open for the hunt.

"Let them come," Bara said, his voice calm and terrifyingly steady. "I’ve spent my whole life being erased. It’s about time someone tried to stop me."

He turned and walked toward the exit, his stride steady, his body feeling like it was carved from iron. Behind him, the Iron Cellar was silent, the goons watching him leave with the hushed reverence usually reserved for ghosts.

He stepped out into the cool night air, the city lights shimmering like distant, flickering embers. He had the power, he had the connections, and now, he had a warning that told him he was finally aiming at the right target.

"Elders," Bara whispered to the wind, a reckless, wild smile curling his lips. "I hope you’re ready for a change in management."

He walked into the dark, his silhouette sharpening against the horizon, ready to burn the old world to the ground.

The world slowed to a crawl. He saw the tension in the assassin’s shoulder, the slight pivot of her weight, and the trajectory of the strike. The System flared, projecting a faint red path onto the rooftop.—Hostile Combatant: Serigala. Threat Level: High. Recommendation: Utilize [Dragon’s Parry].—Bara didn't dodge. Sari whispered, clutching his arm.
