CHAPTER 12

Ethan drove on the highway with his car windows rolled fully up. The air-conditioning was blasting his face, and he had Cher's “Believe” playing loudly from the speaker while he nodded in rhythm with the beat as he drove.

The freeway was half empty, and so he drove at a hundred miles per hour without any cause for alarm

For some unknown reason, he felt very good, very satisfied, and a great deal of inner peace.

He had not experienced this kind of feeling before and could not tell exactly what made him feel good.

Maybe it was because he was out of jail, maybe it was because he was now a rich man, maybe it was because he now had the skill to make him a billionaire, Maybe he was finally divorced from that marriage, or maybe he was just happy to begin to get back at Ava—he did not know, but whichever was the case, he knew everything was falling into place and he had a lot to do, especially with regard to Ava and her new… or maybe old… boyfriend, Jake.

Ethan smiled to himself as he thought about the two. Two people who did not know each other had somehow managed to date right after he was sent to jail and began dating. Considering that Jake was his former boss, what were the odds? That was what he was asking himself.

He knew that whatever it was, with his newfound fame, power, money, and strength, he was easily going to find out the truth and duly get back at the duo; it was just a matter of time.

Ethan drove over to Mr. Eric Blackwood's residence.

His wound treatment had begun the previous day as promised by Ethan, and he was going to check on him and have a session with him.

Mr. Eric Blackwood was sitting on a chair beside his bed when Ethan entered.

He wore a wide smile on his face as he saw Ethan.

“Good evening, Eric. How are you feeling today?” Ethan asked with a smile as he entered

“Far better, doctor. I have not been able to walk this distance in a year, and thanks to you, I just made it,” Mr. Eric said, referring to the distance between where he sat and the bed.

“Now that is quite a distance to indicate improvement. Good job.” Ethan said with enthusiasm, as though he was trying to give Mr. Eric some motivation.

“My leg now feels lighter and better. You work magic just like my brother said. You are a good doctor,” Mr. Eric commended.

By this time, Ethan had a pair of gloves and a mask on and was holding a pair of forceps and a small surgical tray as he approached Mr. Eric, ready to work.

He nodded with a smile as if to say, ‘Thank you, sir.’

He slowly removed the soaked bandage on the wound and dropped it in the tray he had brought.

“I see there is healing. The technique is working. Looking at how fast this improvement is coming. You should be walking in two days; however, the wound will take about a week or two to heal permanently,” Ethan said. He stood up from there and took the tray containing the bandage with him, pouring it into a small trash bag

Ethan walked back to Mr. Eric.

“Tell Thomas to get me the big basin I used yesterday,” Ethan said as he walked back after dropping the forceps and tray.

“Oops, kindly press the button on my bedside drawer for me,” Mr. Eric said, pointing at the drawer.

Ethan nodded.

#######

Ethan finished with the session for the day and came out of the compound

He got into his car and drove slowly out of the house. And onto the estate road. It was about 9pm, and he was now headed home.

Meanwhile, Mr Eric was still sitting in the chair he was when Ethan came  in.

He stared at his freshly bandaged wound and the blackish-green liquid in the basin that Ethan had somehow managed to ooze out of him painlessly and effortlessly with a technique that almost looked like a normal massage, except he could not feel a thing. All he saw was the liquid oozing out of the wound like an open can of grease spilling.

This was the second day of Ethan beginning his treatment, and he was already feeling much better than he had in years.

Ethan had explained to him that the liquid was the effect of the wound and was the same thing that was causing the wound to be dangerous and unhealable.

Now he was on the healing process thanks to the fluid been extracted from his body

Mr. Eric wondered exactly who this man was.

He had been to the top-tier and A-rated hospitals locally and internationally within the period of one to two years, hoping to find a cure, but to no avail.

All the expert doctors who he had met did not even know the diagnosis, as he always turned out mysteriously fine after every test, yet the wound kept expanding. The only solution they could all offer in the end was to amputate Mr. Eric or risk losing his life.

Yet there was this guy, who had not even entered a medical school for a day, who had just learned some techniques like a trade from his brother, and for an unknown reason, in just two days of beginning treatment, he was healing faster than he could ever imagine.

Mr. Eric marvelled at the skills of the young man who looked so innocent and calm at face. He knew he had to plan a good compensation for this young man after he was healed.

He thought to himself quietly.

Thomas came in to pick up the basin to dispose of the mysterious liquid.

“After this, come back. I have an important job for you to do beginning tomorrow,” Mr. Eric told Thomas with a tone of command.

Ava and Jake sat in their Maserati, in the parking lot of a fancy restaurant, chatting. Although the air conditioner in the car was on full blast, Jake was visibly sweating, indicating he had just come in from the outside.“What did you get?” Ava asked Jake as he sat down, dabbing the sweat off his face with a tissue.“Hmmm.” Jake took a deep breath and shook his head.“Nothing. All the information I had on him was what we already know about him.He was a car salesman; he was imprisoned, and now he has been released. There is no record whatsoever that he was or is a medical doctor anywhere in the world. He came out of jail four days ago and is currently supposed to be a homeless guy with nothing, so I am currently wondering where he got the car and all that from,” Jake narrated.Ava’s face was expressionless. “So how do we explain the people who knew him and referred to him as a doctor? The car he drives and all that?” Ava asked, demanding more answers and explanations from Jake.“Th
