The Cole Estate was not a house. It was a mountain.
Behind iron gates that needed three fingerprints to open, past forests of guards in black, a single ancient mansion sat on top of Dragon City looking down on every skyscraper, every light, like it owned them all. Because it did. Liam hadn't been here in three years. The hall inside smelled like old wood and power. The walls were covered in photos of presidents, generals, and kings shaking hands with one man. That man was sitting in the center. Edward Cole. Eighty years old, but his back was straighter than a soldier's. White hair cut short like a general, face full of deep scars, eyes grey like Liam's but colder like steel that had seen too many wars. He wore a simple black Tang suit, but even that looked like armor. When he breathed, the whole room went silent. His hands, covered in old burn scars, held a teacup. He didn't look up when Liam entered. "You made a mess in my city," Edward said, voice low and heavy. "Helicopters, Rolls-Royces, freezing banks. You embarrassed the Blackwood family in one night. Your trial was to be humble. You failed." Liam stood ten feet away, hands in his pockets, his expensive suit now replaced with a simple black shirt. No longer the cold king from the penthouse — here, he looked like a tired son. "I was tired of being humiliated, Grandfather. Three years was enough." Edward finally looked up. His grey eyes locked on Liam's. "And so you let that Carter girl kneel? Good. She should learn. But Victoria Sterling is waiting downstairs. You will marry her next month. The engagement will be announced tonight." It wasn't a question. It was an order. Liam's jaw tightened. "No." The teacup in Edward's hand cracked. "No?" Edward stood up slowly. Even at eighty, he was taller than most men, his presence crushing. "Victoria Sterling brings us the European banks. Her family saved our family in 2008. This is not about love, Liam. This is about empire. You know this." "I said no, Grandfather," Liam said louder, his grey eyes now flashing. "I won't be sold again. You made me marry Chloe to teach me humility. Now you want me to marry Victoria to buy banks. I'm not a deal." Edward slammed the broken teacup onto the table. Tea and blood from his cut palm spilled. "You ungrateful boy! Do you know what I sacrificed to save you?!" The room shook. Butler Chen, standing in the corner, lowered his head. He knew what was coming. Liam's face went pale. His hands started to shake not from fear, but from something else. A memory. "Don't," Liam whispered. "Don't bring that up." "Why not?!" Edward roared, now truly furious, a grandfather's fury mixed with pain. "You think your nightmares went away? You still wake up screaming, don't you? Every night at 2 AM! For fifteen years!" Liam stumbled back, grabbing his head. His breathing became fast, shallow. It hit him the nightmare. The same one since he was thirteen. A van, Rough hands pulling him from his school. A black bag over his head. The smell of gasoline. Men laughing, speaking Russian. He was tied to a chair in a warehouse, a cold knife at his throat, blood dripping from his mouth where they hit him. And a voice on the phone: "Edward Cole, pay 500 million or we send your grandson in pieces." He was there for three days. Three days with no food, no water, listening to them decide whether to cut his fingers. Until his grandfather's private army burned the whole warehouse down and carried him out, half dead. Since then, he couldn't sleep in the dark. He couldn't stand the smell of gasoline. He couldn't stand being helpless which is why he endured three years as a son-in-law without fighting back. He wanted to prove he could be helpless and still survive. Liam fell to his knees, sweat covering his forehead, his tall body shaking. Edward's anger vanished instantly. He rushed forward the old general who never ran and grabbed his grandson's shoulders. "Liam! Liam! Breathe! Look at me! It's not real! You're home!" Liam clutched his grandfather's scarred hands, gasping. "They... they said you'd never come... they said you would leave me..." Edward hugged him, his own eyes red now. "I will never leave you. Never again. That's why I need you to marry Victoria. The kidnappers were sent by the Sterling's enemies. If we don't ally with Sterling now, they will come for you again. And next time, I might be too old to save you." Silence. Only Liam's heavy breathing. Liam slowly stood up, wiping sweat from his face, his grey eyes now wet but hard as stone again. "I understand you want to protect me, Grandfather. But I will not marry a woman I don't love to feel safe. If they come for me again..." He looked out the window, down at Dragon City down at where Carter Tower stood, where Chloe was probably crying alone. "...let them come. I'm not thirteen anymore." He turned to leave. Edward watched him go, his scarred hands shaking with both fury and pride. "Butler Chen," Edward said quietly, his voice cold again, "If he won't marry Victoria willingly... then make the Carter girl disappear from the city. If he has no weakness, he will have to obey." Butler Chen's eyes widened. "Master, you cannot... Young Master loves her!" Edward's eyes were steel. "Then he will learn what love costs."Latest Chapter
deep mystery!
Liam stood alone. Every employee was staring. Whispering."That's the ex-heir... demoted yesterday... his uncle is president now...""He got dumped by Victoria Sterling... after three years washing dishes, now he lost everything..."Liam didn't move. The elevator only the president uses. That elevator now belonged to his uncle, Daniel Cole.Liam smiled. A small, cold, terrifying smile the smile he wore the night he made the whole banquet hall kneel. He took out his phone, He called Butler Chen."Where did Victoria go last night after my call cut?" he asked, voice calm."Young Master... she... she went to Sterling Hospital. Her father, Mr. Sterling, had a heart attack at midnight. After your call. She was unreachable because she was in emergency. Ethan Blackwood was there with her."Liam's

Like he didn't just take his grandson's company away in the morning."Grandfather," Liam said, standing in the doorway, white shirt wrinkled, voice low, controlled.Edward didn't look up. "You lost your cool at the board meeting, Liam. Daniel said you didn't even congratulate him. That's not how an heir behaves.""Where is Lily?" Liam asked, straight. No games.Edward finally looked up, grey eyes calm, almost surprised."Lily? The village girl? The Carter granddaught
The lost Envelope
Lily's hand was shaking. The dirty envelope old, yellow, tied with a faded blue thread was in her palm, dust from the village still on it."Young Master Cole! I found it in my grandmother's box! She said it was about your mother! She said a Carter girl gave it to her before she died!"Liam stared at it.His bandaged hand reached out slowly for the first time in three years, his hand shook not from anger, but from fear.Who was his mother? The woman with the scar on her eyebrow? The Carter girl his grandfather called his biggest sin?His fingers touched the blue thread RING! RING! RING!His phone rang. Loud. Liam's mother
Carter Mansion —Morning. The gates were broken.Three black SUVs blocked the driveway. Ten men in suits Sterling guards with a court paper. And in front of them, Ethan Blackwood, nose still bandaged, white suit still stained with his own blood from Chloe's slap.Patricia stood barefoot on the front steps, in her nightgown, hair messy, begging, holding Robert's wheelchair so it wouldn't roll away."Please! You can't take the house! Robert is sick! My daughter is inside! This is our home!"The lead man threw the paper at her feet."Mrs. Carter, this house was collateral for the loan you forged under David Carter's name ten years ago. Edward Cole now owns the loan. He sold it to Sterling Group last night. You have one hour to leave."Patricia fell to her knees, crying, grabbing the paper. "No... this is twenty years of my life..."Ethan smiled, kicking the paper closer."Sign it, mother-in-law. Or give me Chloe. She is still my wife on paper. That bloody white dress is still upstairs.

The big Carter family portrait on the wall Robert, Patricia, and Chloe smiling had a crack straight through Chloe's face. From when Patricia threw a vase this morning.Robert sat in his wheelchair in the living room, oxygen tube hissing, staring at the empty stairs. He was alive, but he looked more dead than when he was in the hospital.Patricia paced. Back and forth, Hands shaking, eyes red, makeup gone."Chloe! Chloe, please open the door! You haven't eaten since yesterday! You haven't said one word!"Upstairs, Chloe's bedroom door was locked.Inside, Chloe sat on the floor.Still in the bloody white wedding dress from the banquet. Staring straight at Robert Carter in his wheelchair.Robert choked on his own oxygen. Tears poured."Brother... brother... no... we buried you..."Patricia, still on the marble, stopped pretending to faint. She sat up, face white as death, whispering:"David..."Lily in her red dress stopped laughing. Her hate smile vanished. Because she had heard that name in the village. The name her mother told her to never say."David Carter..." she whispered. "My grandfather..."Inside the private lounge, Liam's hand was still on the locked handle. His grandfather's men had locked him inside with Victoria.Victoria's tears were still wet, lipstick smeared."Your grandfather brought him bac
