Engagement party

The Cole family banquet was not a party. It was a show of power.

Five hundred of the most powerful people in the country filled the golden hall of the Cole Estate. Generals, bank owners, ministers — all bowing when Edward Cole entered. At the center of the hall, a giant screen flashed:

COLE x STERLING ENGAGEMENT — TONIGHT

Victoria Sterling stood on stage in a white diamond gown, smiling like she had already won. Beautiful, arrogant, untouchable.

Liam stood far from her, alone by the bar, in a black suit, holding a glass of whiskey he never drank. His grey eyes were empty. Cold. After his fight with his grandfather this morning, he didn't care if the whole hall burned.

Then the doors opened.

Chloe Carter walked in.

Red.

A burning red dress, slit to the thigh, backless, hair down, lips red. No makeup to hide her tired eyes. No CEO armor. Just a woman who had lost her company and was here to beg for it back.

The hall went silent. Every man stared. Every woman hated her instantly.

Victoria's smile cracked when she saw that red dress.

"Well, look who came to serve us," Victoria said into the microphone, voice sweet but loud. "Miss Carter, I told you — if you want to save your little company, you come and beg me. So beg."

Chloe stopped in the middle of the hall, barefoot her heels broke running from the car. Her legs were still slightly burned from yesterday's stress, but she stood straight.

"I didn't come for you," Chloe said, her voice cold, shaking but clear. "I came for Mr. Cole. My company was built by my father. You have no right to buy it for one dollar."

Victoria walked down from the stage, heels clicking, until she was inches from Chloe. White vs Red. Two queens.

"No right?" Victoria laughed. "Sweetie, your ex-husband gave it to me as an engagement gift. He said your family humiliated him for three years. He said you are all trash. Isn't that right, darling?"

She turned to look at Liam.

Everyone turned to look at Liam.

This was the moment. The whole hall waited for Liam to stand up, to defend his ex-wife, or to claim his new fiancée.

Liam did nothing.

He took a slow sip of whiskey. His grey eyes watched both women like they were strangers. No love. No anger. Just... nothing. The wrath of an outcast who was done caring.

"Liam?" Chloe whispered, looking at him. Her cold eyes begging for the first time. "Say something..."

Victoria smirked and stepped closer to Chloe. "He won't. You know why? Because real men don't love maids who make them wash dishes. You made him kneel for three years, Chloe. Now it's your turn."

Chloe's hands clenched. Three years of guilt, of sleepless nights, of regret all exploded.

"And you?" Chloe snapped back, her voice rising, loud enough for the whole hall to hear. "You buy men with banks! You think you can buy Liam because your family has money? He is not a contract!"

Victoria's perfect face twisted. "How dare you"

SLAP!

Victoria slapped Chloe. Hard. The sound echoed in the golden hall.

Chloe's head turned, her red lipstick smeared, a red mark on her pale cheek.

The guards moved. Butler Chen moved. Edward Cole stood up.

But Liam still did nothing. He just watched, his face stone, his whiskey glass tight in his hand until the glass cracked.

Chloe slowly turned her head back. Tears in her eyes, but not falling. She looked at Victoria, then at Liam the man who wouldn't save her.

And then, slowly, Chloe raised her hand.

She slapped Victoria back. Harder.

Victoria stumbled in her white gown, crashing into the champagne tower. Glasses shattered everywhere.

The hall screamed.

Two heiresses fighting on the floor of the Cole Estate — hair pulling, red dress and white dress tangled, champagne spilling.

"Liam!" Victoria screamed from the floor, mascara running, "Are you just going to watch?! I'm your fiancée!"

"Liam, please!" Chloe cried at the same time, holding her burning cheek.

Liam finally put down his cracked glass. He walked towards them, step by step, his face cold, his shadow covering both women on the floor.

He looked down at both of them — the woman who betrayed him, and the woman forced on him.

And he said, voice so cold it froze the entire banquet:

"You both think you own me. You both are wrong."

He turned his back on both of them.

"I am not your husband. I am not your fiancé. I am Liam Cole. And tonight, I am taking my family back from all of you."

Behind him, Edward Cole smiled darkly and whispered into his phone:

"Lock the doors. Let no one leave. Tonight, I will teach my grandson what wrath really means."
