Marcus took the seat that was offered to him by the unknown woman. He sat on the chair, a bit relaxed but aware of his surroundings nonetheless. He didn't bother looking around and asked the woman a question.

"Who are you?"

The woman shrugged and stood up. She walked over to her mini bar, picked up a bottle of scotch and tilted it towards Marcus.

"Care for some scotch? I promise it's to die for."

Marcus shook his head, choosing to ignore her little quip that sounded like she already knew what had happened to him. He glared at her back as she shrugged and poured a glass for herself before going back to her seat.

"I'll ask again. Who are you?" He questioned her, going back to the matter at hand.

She smiled at him.

"No one of importance until I know why you're here."

She and Marcus shared looks. In that moment Marcus could pick out some key features that she had that resembled someone he knew. Looking at them, he was sure that he had seen this woman somewhere. She seemed vaguely familia

Marcus sighed as Estelle walked out of his house and he saw her drive off after several moments of what he thought was probably crying but what he hoped was self reflection on what she did wrong and how she would change and be a good wife to her husband. Little did he know his rejection would lead to her downhill spiral. He went upstairs to his bedroom eager to put what had happened in his rear view and focus on what mattered. Mark accepting his proposal and this annoying and yet much needed New Years ball that he was assigned to throw again due to the scandal that followed the last event he spearheaded. The public had not yet recovered from that one with the police still suspecting him and simultaneously looking for the hooded figure who unbeknownst to them, was being held captive in one of the guest rooms of his home. The press also carried the news far and wide and unsurprisingly had found out why he was arrested in the first place. The matter would have escalated if Finch had a f

  • Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Seven: CONFESSION

“Mrs. Moore. Once again, welcome to my home.” Marcus said, trying to be as formal as he could possibly be without arousing any suspicion from Rachel. It’s not as if he cheated on her or they had a romantic relationship per se but he just knew that he didn’t want Rachel finding out about the incident especially if it came from Estelle. Estelle chuckled but her smile faltered a bit. She waved her hand in a playful manner. “How many times do I have to tell you to call me by my name Marcus?” Marcus shrugged and gave her a smile. “Force of habit Estelle. Don’t mind me.” Rachel and Estelle shared a silent glance before they belted out with laughter, holding their dresses at the seams. Rachel sniffled and poured the drink that Estelle had brought to the mansion into the cups that were placed on the small glass geometric coffee table, but she poured only two cups. Marcus chuckled but was completely lost. “What are you ladies laughing about?” He asked in a serene tone that only made the

  • Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Six: THE UNWANTED GUEST

A day had gone by after the discussion with his family on what to do with Chris or Mark and the bewildering talk he had with Estelle concerning the welfare of her assistant. So far, Chris had been Chris for the most part with Mark not coming out at all and the diagnosis that he was having were all good. Mark’s ugly head hadn’t reared but it was still too soon to say that the drugs and recent psychiatric help were working wonders. Marcus finally sat up in his bed feeling like he could take on the whole world after the day of constant rest and in his mind, he could. He effortlessly got up from his bed and after a long but reviving hot shower and a change of clothes, he was ready to face his problems for the day or the previous day at least. Marcus left his room and went straight to see Chris. He needed to check on Chris’ behavioral records to make sure that everything was still on track before Chris would be able to live a somewhat normal life after all this was taken care of. He got

“We have to turn him over to the authorities. There isn’t another viable option.” “You really can’t condone that. He’s sick. He has to be in a psychiatric ward for his own good.” “If I may add, hearing what has been going on, it would be useless throwing him in there. He might be a danger to everyone else in the facility. What if his alter ego comes out and kills someone? What do we do next?” “So, what do you suggest we do? Leave him to wander the street and maybe come back to murder us all?” The questions flew around Marcus’ head as he tried to keep up with what the others were saying. Micah, Rachel and Grayson stood in the study where several meetings of importance were carried out in the past. They had left Chris in the room under lock, key and surveillance so that they could discuss what they would do with him. They had all given their opinions on what they thought was best but none of it was concrete and made little to no sense if they considered the future effect it would ha

“Help me.” His body fell to the ground with a dull thud, snapping the members of the Wei family and their lawyer to snap out of their shocked trance. Even still, they all stood there staring at the fallen body for what seemed like a minute until Marcus made the first move. “Guards!” Micah shouted out, calling for back-up in case anything underhanded was about to happen. Marcus, on the other hand, started to move over to where Mark lay on the floor when his father tried to call him back. “Marcus, don’t.” Micah said, trying to get Marcus to stay in place until their security could check out the still body first but Marcus did no such thing, already getting free of his father’s grip and moving closer to Mark. Everyone else watched on with bated breath. As soon Marcus reached the body, he bent down and checked the pulse by placing two fingers on Mark’s neck. There was a pulse, not strong but not faint either. Marcus turned back just as the doors were thrown open and four large men

  • Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Three: BACK TO THE SCENE OF THE CRIME

“What was the content of the footage you showed the police?” Marcus asked as he and his lawyer got into the car that was waiting for them when they got out of the police station. It was a quick interrogation like he anticipated and he did tell his father that it would be but still, the thought of them all thinking that he had a hand in Finch’s death lingered with him. “You haven’t seen it yet sir?” Grayson said as he shut the door behind Marcus, pulling him back to the present. He turned around and entered the car on the other side when Marcus replied to him.“Not yet. I was being held, remember?”Grayson chuckled and fetched a tablet from his bag. He turned it on and pressed some things before handing the device over to Marcus."I had the footage copied to my device and some others just in case it was ever corrupted. Better to be safe than sorry." the lawyer said with a shrug.“You are as resourceful as ever, Grayson.” Marcus mused, taking the tablet from him. “Thank you, sir.” Gra
