The next day had come around far more quickly than Marcus had anticipated. Sure, he had cashed in his winnings and gone home a happy man but he had also not slept much due to his anticipation. The day before, he had watched Victoria and James give their speech about innovation and whatnot in front of a huge crowd. They seemed too chummy on the stage but as Marcus had expected, no one had seemed to notice that and when it was time for the interactive session, the questions always moved in his direction, focusing on why he cheated and how Victoria was doing after the great betrayal. It was sickening but Marcus held his tongue. After all, he would get his hands on something damning very soon and the world would see that he was the innocent one in this story.

Marcus got down from the cab, still donning normal clothes and a smile on his face. The tall and imposing hotel building loomed above him. The Blue Oyster. Some days ago he would have been ashamed to go in looking the way that he was but today was different. He was on the same level as the other guests there. Maybe even higher. With that mentality, Marcus stepped into the building ready to tackle anything.

As expected, as soon as he walked into the lobby, the murmurs started.

“Isn't that Victoria Wong’s husband?"

“The cheater!"

“Damn, he has some balls coming here a day after his wife's big announcement."

“When are they getting a divorce. I hope he doesn't want to try and fleece her for more money."

The comments kept coming, each one louder than the other as the guest didn't care to hide their thoughts. Marcus but his lip, hating it but he had other important things to attend to.

He headed straight for the receptionist desk, a stoic look on his face.

“Good morning.” He greeted.

“Good morning” The receptionist replied carefully before she looked up at him. Her once bright smile contorted into a sneer and she rolled her eyes. Marcus caught onto it but chose to let it go. She wasn’t worth his time.

“What do you want?” receptionist asked him, coldly.

“I would like to pay for a room here.” Marcus told her, ignoring her rude tone.

The receptionist scoffed at him and laughed

“You? Get a room here? After all that you did? The whole world already knows that you're a pauper so stop trying to act like anything other than that.” She shot at him.

“Regardless, I can pay for a room.” He insisted.

“You have some nerve showing up here after your wife's big announcement to pay for a room in the same hotel that she is in. Don't you have any shame? Won't you leave that woman alone?” She antagonized him further, wanting to get a rise out of him but Marcus was unfazed.

He sighed and brought out his new black card, placing it on the desk before turning back to her.

“Now, I want to pay for a room. Are you going to attend to me or not?”

The receptionist eyed the black card and snatched it up from the desk.

“Where did you steal this from? Does it belong to Ms. Victoria? Thief. I knew it. I’ll report you to the authorities.”

Marcus moved quickly and snatched the card from her hands.

“No, it belongs to me and I want to pay for a room or should I call your manager and speak to him myself?” Marcus asked her, getting fed up with her constant bickering.

The receptionist glared at him before she picked up the phone from its reciever and pressed a button.

“Fine, I'll call the manager. He’ll be best person to handle your situation anyway. Get ready to be thrown out.” She hissed at him.

Marcus stood to the side as a receptionist spoke in hushed tones on the phone. In a minute she stopped and dropped the phone reciever back, shooting daggers his way.

Soon enough the manager of the hotel came out to speak to him. Without even missing a beat, he spoke.

“Sorry sir but you can't be on the premises." The manager said as soon as he walked up to Marcus.

“Does that mean you're turning away my business?" Marcus asked, turning to him.

“I don't think you can afford to do business here, Mr Wong." The man spat out the name with much disgust.

“I want to pay for a suite. How much is it?"

“I don't think…" The manager started but was cut off.

“How much?" Marcus reiterated.

"Three thousand dollars per night.” The man said with a condescending look, sure that Marcus couldn't afford it. He raised the price by three times, wanting to get Marcus out. He didn’t want the hotel to be asscoiciated with suck filth.

“I'll pay twenty thousand for the room. For a night." Marcus told the man showing him his new black card.

The manager stared at the card in awe but the receptionist spoke up.

“It's not his. It's definitely stolen."

“Then try it. If it's stolen then the card won't work because it's been reported right?" Marcus offered, handing the manager the card.

The manager pondered over it for a second before taking the card, much to the receptionist's dislike. He swiped the card, charging the room for more than it was worth and waited for the card to decline. To his surprise it went through.

The manager turned back to Marcus and handed him the card in shock.

“See. Not stolen. Now, I’d like the key to my room and also there's some other business I would like to discuss with you. That is if you'd like to make some money on the side." Marcus offered, raising a brow.

The manager looked between Marcus and the receptionist before squaring his shoulders. He took a keycard from the many behind the desk and handed it to Marcus first.

“Get back to work Lily." He said before speaking to Marcus. “Right this way Mr Wong." His tone, losing its distaste from before.

Marcus tucked his card back in his pocket, smirked at Lily and then followed the manager through the lobby and into the main building.

“What would you like to discuss sir?” The manager asked Marcus with a hint of respect as they moved.

"The security footage of the hotel. Specifically in the rooms.”

"What about it?” He asked with a creased brow.

"I'll go straight to the point. How much would it take to get the security tapes from one of the rooms in the hotel.”

"I would never…" The manager began stopping dead in his tracks.

“Another twenty thousand dollars?"

“Forty." The manager bargained, his initial facade of integrity breaking away.

“Thirty thousand. Last offer." Marcus said, dangling the money.

"Deal then.” He said, shaking Marcus' hand.

“Which room? I assume it's yours."

“No. Not mine." Marcus replied, shaking his head. “I want the footage from Victoria Wong’s suite.

"But sir…"

“Think of how much you stand to make here Henry." Marcus convinced him, calling the name on his name tag.

The manager bit his lip but caved in.

“Fine but no one can know that it was me who gave it to you.”

“Understood.”

“Follow me then.”

With Henry leading the way, Marcus arrived at the security room in record time. Once they opened the door, two other men were in the room, their eyes halfheartedly looking at the screens before them.

“Leave the room.” Henry ordered. The men looked at each other but left the room without question. After all, which of them wanted to lose their job.

Once they were out, Henry stepped up to the control of the multiple screens on the wall and typed something in. In a second, the security footage of a particular room popped up on all the screens. It showed Victoria walking around her room in nothing but lingerie, sipping a glass of wine.

“I don’t think that I’m supposed to be here for this.” Henry muttered, his eyes still stuck on the screen but Marcus waited.

Victoria did not disappoint. Soon enough, James entered the frame in nothing but his underwear. Victoria pounced on him like a lioness in heat, discarding her glass of wine on a nearby table. The two of them began to kiss and rip each other's clothes off with no mind to who might be watching.

Henry’s mouth dropped in shock and Marcus chuckled.

“Right on time. I want a recording of this and the footage from yesterday as they lodged in the room sent to my room this morning.”

Henry still watched the screen in genuine shock.

“Henry?” Marcus called his attention, amused that the man was still in shock about what they just saw.

Henry blinked and turned away, shame on his face.

“I’ll get them to you as soon as possible Mr. Wong.” He assured.

Marcus gave him a nod and was about to walk away when Henry called out to him.

“And Mr. Wong. The footage. It’s on the house.”

Marcus was taken aback by the words but he just smiled at Henry and walked off. From shock to shame. That was what he was going for. And in some hours, Victoria and James would feel the same.

Days had gone by after the supposed burial of Rachel Blythe or Wei, depending on who looked at it, was long gone. People still mourned her loss, and the press all carried the news of Rachel’s death all around but in truth people had moved on from it. The funeral had passed, and everyone had gone on with their respective lives. Everyone except for the person who died. Rachel still stuck around, now mostly healed from her trauma, as she stood behind a false frame in a restaurant wringing her hands and calming her nerves for what she was about to do. This was ludicrous and insane. Even if they were able to pull off what Marcus had in mind, what’s to say that Estelle wouldn’t find out immediately and really have her killed this time? She huffed and then spoke into the small microphone that was placed on her gown. “Are you sure about this Marcus? What if she finds out?" Rachel asked, her nerves getting the best of her. “She won't." Marcus’ voice spoke back at her from the earpiece she h

  • Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Eight: A BURIAL

A day or two had gone by since Marcus had confronted Estelle at her home. Under normal circumstances he would feel nothing but blind rage at what she had done to his wife, but Rachel had lived and in a sense that was almost enough not to burn down Estelle’s house with her in it. Almost. To everyone on the outside and apart from the people who were involved in the rescue, the rest of the world went with the story that Rachel was indeed dead. Although no one knew the details of her death due to the family saying that they wanted to keep it private, the public acknowledged their request and didn’t pry, only sending their condolences in any form that they could. Marcus stuck to the story well. He and the rest of his family followed the story to the letter, with Elias coming back from his trip and Rachel’s mother finally coming out of the shadows to attend the mock funeral. Her uncles stayed behind, not bothering to show up when the company assets had been put in Marcus’ name in the case

  • Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Seven: DISGUISES

“How did you find me?” Marcus asked Callum as he watched the paramedics who arrived at the scene some minutes after he was almost shot, carry Mark's dead but covered body away and wheel a drained Rachel into an ambulance. “I found you because I know the kind of man you are. You would destroy anyone to save your family.”Marcus stared at him, confused as he cradled his arm that was hurt during the scuffle with Mark.“In other words, I knew you weren't going home to speak to your father. I tried to give you a benefit of the doubt but I couldn't and I followed you. I thought that it was better to be safe than sorry.”“You saw me at the Moore's?”“Yes. I still don't know why you went there but when I saw you run out, I knew that things weren't right. I still tailed you and then you ended up here. I stayed outside for a bit, not really sure if I should have gone in after you. I had a bad feeling when you stayed in there more than I expected so I called reinforcements just in case. As soon

  • Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Six: DEATH

Hello Marcus. Long time no see.” He said with an ominous smirk. Marcus frowned as he saw Mark’s face. Mark wore a leather jacket and jeans completing his biker from hell look and held a gun in his hand. He smiled wickedly and pointed the gun at Marcus. "Mark.” Marcus muttered, his voice dripping with anger. “We had a deal.” “A nice deal, yes but I told you Marcus. No matter what deal we made, we would never be able to trust each other. Never.” Mark said, shaking his head. “You bastard.” “Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Don’t call me that. You should know more than anyone that I’m the one in control here. We aren’t at your home, and I am not a prisoner in your house anymore. You are on my turf.” Marcus bit his tongue on the insults even though he had more to say. “What have you done to Rachel?" Marcus asked, trying to be calm and not escalate the situation. Mark laughed. “Oh, you mean your wife? Let me show you.” Marcus could see Mark pull out a remote from his back pocket

  • Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Five: FULL CIRCLE

"I have your wife, Marcus. I have Rachel.” “What did you say?” Marcus shouted out as he stepped closer to Estelle, feeling ready to wring her neck until she told him what he wanted to know, when he heard the click of several guns. He stopped in his tracks and took a look around. About three men stood behind pillars, all pointing their guns at him, willing to shoot if he made the wrong move. How did he not notice them when he walked into the room? Marcus could tell that he was outnumbered and was basically the prey in this situation so he stepped back but that didn’t stop him from glaring at a smiling Estelle. “Where is she?” He growled, counting down the seconds that he could run out and find Rachel as soon as Estelle gave him what he needed. Whatever it was, Mark’s manhunt would have to wait until he got his wife back. Estelle frowned and stood up, matching Marcus. “You care about her more than you care about me. I had an inkling that she had poisoned your mind, but I didn’t thi

  • Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Four: NEVER LETTING GO

Marcus had ended his search for that day with the police officers, Callum and Coleman before he went back to the precinct dressing room in a sad state. They hadn’t found Mark and they had searched all the places that he would have been hiding out in. His home or former home by the state that they saw the place in, his miniature workplace, his sister’s home which yielded no fruit and the grave where his mother was buried. Marcus wasn’t sure that they would catch him at the latter place, but it was worth a try to the authorities. Mark was literally nowhere to be found. It was as if he disappeared into thin air. “Fuck.” He muttered as he wore his suit Market after changing out of his other clothes. As Marcus scrambled his brain for more possible hiding spots, the door to the room was opened and Callum walked in with the same air of despair at their failed search. “Don’t beat yourself up about it, Marcus. We will find the man.” “I’d want that sooner rather than later, Detective Callum
