[BACK AT JASON’S MANSION]

“They’re gone!” one of the men shouted angrily.

Zeek walked into the room, his face filled with frustration.

“Did you know this was going to happen?” he asked angrily. “Did you forget that easily?”

Marcus and Zeek exchanged glances.

“The last time we captured an assassin, he was killed before he could talk,” I said calmly. “I knew Henry Carter was behind that attack. Or should I say Fiona, who contracted him after he must have gone rogue?”

I leaned back in my chair.

I looked at Mr. Nicholas. “Are you being serious right now? What is the meaning of this?” I asked, looking completely knocked off.Mr. Nicholas saw the look in my eyes and immediately got off his seat. He rushed towards me.“What were you expecting, Mr. Carter? Don't tell me your grandfather didn't leave you a note?” he asked, looking at me.I knew he was right.“Irene and Alessia are not who you think they actually are. Their family has been running a business for a very long time, and they are one of the top leaders in the business world. We have been wanting to do business with them for a long time, but with you on board, I think that will finally be possible.”Mr. Nicholas looked at me and then back at the board of directors, who didn't seem to understand what was going on.I nodded.I said nothing. I simply walked over to my seat and sat down to listen to the business proposal.J and K were one of the biggest corporations in the world, and a merger between them and the Carter Com

“Why don't you be my guard?” I asked Sniper.“Are you serious right now?” Zeek asked, staring me directly in the face. “You do know Henry would do anything to have him killed, right?”“All the more reason I want someone like Sniper by my side. He knows everything about Henry Carter. Right?”I looked at Sniper, and he nodded immediately.“Are you sure about this?” Zeek asked again.“Zeek, I know what I am doing. With Marcus changing where his loyalty lies, I need someone I can count on,” I replied, looking a bit worried.“What about me? You can count on me. I have always got your back,” Zeek said, folding his arms.“I haven't doubted you for a second, Zeek. I just need more arms and people who are ready to die for my cause. I want Henry Carter taken down,” I said, clenching my fist in anger.“You do know he wants the one who killed your father, right?” Zeek said, looking at me.“But they planned it! All of them. And I will stop at nothing to get them to kneel before me.”I turned towar

Immediately after Marcus left the bar lounge, he made a call.“I’m on my way. Can you tell me where to meet?”Ethan’s voice boomed with joy.“Finally! We can now agree on something.”“Just give me your location and don’t even think of wasting my time,” Marcus said with frustration.Ethan sent him his location, and Marcus drove to meet him.His mind was not settled. He kept wondering why his father could have done something as grave as taking a man’s life. All of this was still a mystery to him, and he was only just finding out about his father’s dark past. The thought of telling Jason everything continued to gnaw at him, but he knew Jason was already out for blood. As he parked his car right in front of Ethan’s mansion, Marcus sighed slowly and rubbed his temple before walking towards the entrance. He pressed the alarm button, and someone immediately responded.A maid opened the door, revealing an opulent mansion that showed just how powerful the Mathews family was in society.Marcus

I turned and saw Fiona seated with a bottle of soda right in front of her.“What the hell are you doing?” I asked, furrowing my brows. “Are you stalking me now?”“Stalking you? Of course not, darling. I just happen to be here to listen to your two little girls ranting.” Fiona said with a smile on her face.Irene looked at her with an angry expression. “So what do you have to say?”“Oh, Marcus, you are definitely going to dance to the tune when the time comes, but for now, enjoy your little sit on the side of the fence. As for you two, Jason was my first kiss.”Fiona said it with a smile before grabbing her handbag and walking out of the bar.We all looked stunned.I looked at Alessia, while Irene stared at me as if she was expecting me to say something to defend myself, but I said nothing. They were probably wondering how Fiona could claim that she had kissed me when we were family.I was initially scared. The thought of Fiona telling them that we had sex was the most terrifying part,

I looked at Marcus and then back at the entrance.Alessia and Irene were standing at the front door.“This is about to get really awkward,” I muttered under my breath as the bartender brought my whisky and Marcus his drink.“Jason!”Alessia suddenly sprinted toward me.Irene made a funny face, and Marcus almost laughed.“Make sure she doesn't sit near me,” I said immediately, looking at Marcus, who was supposed to be my friend. But before Marcus could respond, a message came into his phone.I caught the name that flashed across the screen.Henry Carter.Marcus was fast enough to pick up the phone.“I need to receive this,” he said, getting up and walking out of the barroom. My countenance changed.I knew Marcus was hiding something. The question was whether I should ask him who he was talking to.Before I could think further, Alessia walked closer and wrapped her arms around my neck.“You can't do that here, Alessia. This is a bar. I don't want any unnecessary attention,” I said, gent

.“What is it going to be?” Henry Carter asked.“I will do it. What do you want me to do?” Marcus asked.“First, I want you to meet up with Ethan Mathew. You both need to join hands in taking Jason down. We go all out from now on. It is us against him. We can take him.”Henry's voice showed how pleased he was.“Is that all?” Marcus asked again.“No. Your father's company. We can use that to spoil Jason's reputation. I heard he managed to thwart Ethan's plan. The boy is not very smart, or should I say Jason is way above his league?”“I will see what I can do,” Marcus said before cutting off the line without hesitation.“God, what do I do?” Marcus slammed his hand against the table. He stared at the envelope his father had left behind. It was incriminating, and there was no way he could understand everything that was written inside. It was becoming clear that his father had been a culprit, and he had done it without being forced.Marcus stood up from the chair, his face fixed on the pic
