Liam's POV

It felt like the world exploded. The sudden bursts of automatic gunfire boomed all around Hans and me. Blackwood’s men, trigger-happy idiots, were letting loose a torrent of lead.

We scrambled for cover behind a stack of crates with the wooden splinters flying as bullets chewed into the surrounding structure.

“Damn it!” I hissed, pressing myself tighter against the cold wood. “What now?”

Hans didn't answer. We waited with the silence interrupted only by the relentless pinging of bullets nearby. It felt like an eternity. Then a voice cut through the gunfire, sharp and commanding.

“Cease fire, you idiots! Cease fire!”

It was Ryan. Ryan's voice was clear and unmistakable.

The firing seized and died down, replaced by the ragged breathing of… well probably everyone. I could hear Ryan lashing out his men, his voice laced with fury.

“What the hell do you think you're doing?! I gave no order to fire! What is wrong with you?!”

I risked a peek over the top of the crate. I could see f

Liam's POVJust like that my plan was suddenly turned to nothing, vaporized as if it was nothing. My well-crafted and failproof plan. There was just no way I'd be able to clear my name now.I only felt even more humiliated when Charles led me to one of the computers to show me a small map of the city and where the feds were currently searching. They were closing in.“It's a matter of time before they close in on us,” Charles explained. “They're hell-bent on finding us, Liam. If we have a plan we need to execute fast. If not, it's a matter of time before they start using satellite imagery and once they do, trust me, we're toast.”I didn't speak immediately. I didn't even know what I wanted to say again. I was no leader… I had led them out into the middle of nowhere as if I was some Robinhood and his merry men but in reality, I was nothing near that. It was time to face reality.“We are going to turn ourselves in,” I replied.Silence settled around the room and everyone else turned thei

  • CHAPTER 170

Ryan's POVI gasped and my legs buckled under my weight. The world swam before my eyes with Scratch's sneer zooming in and out but then the instinct to survive kicked in!I grabbed Silas' arm and dug my finger into one of the gashes left there after he had shattered the glass table with his fall. Silas hissed painfully, his features all twisted up in his agony. I used the pain I was inflicting to my own advantage. I twisted his arm with my finger digging deeper into his flash which only kept his blade into my own flesh.Silas roared in agony and he tried to pull free but I held on with a death grip while my own lifeblood drained the floor. Silas managed to retract his arm but failed to take the knife out of my body but I still held on. With all my strength, I slammed Silas’s wounded arm against the overturned metal frame of the table.I heard a snap and Silas screamed painfully and stumbled back clutching his arm. He raised his other hand reaching for the knife still lodged in my ab

  • CHAPTER 169

Ryan's POVThe recording! That was the first thing that came to my mind when I knew that there was someone in Melissa's house. It could be one of my father's men sent here to search and retrieve it!My father always had more than one plan and I knew very well that sending me to try and retrieve the copy from Melissa wasn't his only plan. But while I was here, there was just no way that person would leave with a recording. I carefully took out my gun from the glove compartment and carefully checked the magazine before stepping out of the car.I knew that whoever was in that house would see me approaching if I wasn't careful enough so I sneaked to the side of the house using the small shadows of the street lights and the trashcans for cover.I finally got to the house with my heart beating frantically and my palms sweaty. I stopped and listened but there was no sound coming from the house. I noticed a window on the second floor slightly open, it was locked! Good! Just the luck I need

  • CHAPTER 168

Ryan's POV“Do what's right..” I scoffed under my breath with my grip tightening around the steering wheel as I drove back to the city.I hated the way I was being ordered around like everyone's errand boy. I really hated that but I was just too deep into it now to call it quits. The darker and more sinister part of me considered the option to let the law have Liam and all who were with him but to do that, my father would walk free and if my father walked free, Melissa would definitely spill the beans on me and I'd have Father to deal with. But if I went with Melissa's idea, Liam's name would be cleared and he'd return to his life. Father would be locked up and Melissa… I didn't really know where Melissa would fit in all of this because I definitely wasn't going to have her again! Then there was the small matter of the maniac assassin whom I had poked in the eye. I knew Scratch was coming after me and it was only a matter of time before the maniac caught up to me! Everything had to b

  • CHAPTER 167

Liam's POVIt was with an anxious spirit that we all followed Sarah back into the room and straight to the corner where she had set up her workstation.I could tell that the others were also as agitated as I was and were all eager to know what was up with Sarah's excitement. I really hoped this wasn't bad news!Sarah finally pulled back her chair and sat down. She had been busy trying to extract data from the computers Melissa had damaged. The moment we cleaned the warehouse, she went to work and would only stop for the occasional sleep and eating.“So with the way I normally fortify my systems, extracting data from the damaged computers was really difficult..” She said as she typed on her computer.“But you did. Right?” I asked impatiently.“I never said it was impossible.” She shrugged. “It only took time. But I've done it.” She opened a folder and turned the laptop towards us. “I've successfully recovered all that we've gathered on Blackwood since day one!”“That's great news!” Loc

Liam's POV“I know what I'm telling you!” Tobias snapped impatiently. “Blackwood was behind it!”Tobias was really serious but I on the other hand didn't really know what I wanted to believe. Here we were in the abandoned warehouse but sitting on the roof in the evening.Tobias had just finished telling me all about his investigations and how he believed that Blackwood was behind my father's disappearance too.I had never put much thought into my father's disappearance. He had disappeared before I was born and nothing was heard of him since that day. He was dead no doubt I really didn't know why Tobias was digging into this now.“I have people who are into the Blackwood network.” Tobias continued. “I had them discreetly investigating on the inside but Blackwood knew. Immediately he did, those people disappeared without a trace too and he was coming for me! I'm lucky, Charles got to me before they did.”“What's that?” I asked with my eyes fixed on the horizon where a car was approachin
