Alex shook his head as he thought about it. The day before was the end of the three-year bet he had with his grandfather.
He had a bet with his grandfather that if he could endure the humiliation that came with being a live-son-in-law for three years, he was going to inherit the family priorities.
And yesterday was the end of the three-year bet. He had the intention of revealing his identity as the heir of the Reynolds family to his wife once he got back home that night.
The Reynolds family was the richest in the whole of Timberland. He had lost his parents at a long age and therefore was brought up by his grandfather and was directly the heir of the Reynolds family.
But then his grandfather had suddenly come up with a bet three years ago and thinking it was ridiculous, he agreed to it without thinking about it. Over the years, he had endured a lot of humiliation and the only thing that kept him going was his wife.
Since she was the only one who didn't treat him with disdain, he believed she loved him and thus kept going hoping to reward her tonight with the news of who he truly was.
But then she has spoiled everything. He had even planned on how to help her family's company so that it was going to rise and had even drafted out a list of plans on how to go about it.
He had planned out a lot of other things, but it seemed like his planning was useless, there was no need for him to carry it out anymore. Well, that was it, he wasn't going to be bothered.
She was the one who had lost out on the huge opportunity so it was none of his business that she lost out on it.
Thinking about this, Max shook his head and brought out his phone. The bet had already ended yesterday, it was time for him to return home. It had been three years since he last saw his grandfather.
Dialing the number he had ignored for three years, the call was picked up in two rings.
"Young Master, the master of the family is currently out of the country and has instructed me to come pick you up." An old voice came from the other end of the phone just as the call was picked up.
"Oh, I see," Alex muttered under his breath.
"Old man, how have you been then?" Alex smiled as he asked.
The man who had just answered the call was the butler of the family, Albert, and was very close to Alex's grandfather. Alex had always addressed him as an old man and the man had tried to make Alex change the way he addressed him, but it was futile.
The face of the old man twitched slightly hearing the way Alex addressed him. Well then, there was nothing he could do about it.
"I've been well, Young Master," Albert answered.
"Old man, as we both know, the end of the three-year agreement came to an end yesterday, can you come pick me up." Alex sighed and went straight to the point.
"I'll be there in a few minutes," Albert replied and immediately hung up the call.
Alex smiled and shook his head, it seemed like he wasn't going to have to head back home immediately, his grandfather was out of the country, and he was going to wait till the old man came back.
Albert would have come to pick him up the next day even if he hadn't called. But then Alex was unwilling to wait till the next day and directly called his grandfather even though he didn't expect that it was Albert who was going to pick up the call.
Well then, it didn't make any difference to him.
Vroom!
Rows of cars pulled up in front of Alex after some time. Men dressed in black suits hurried out of the car and they rushed to open the car at the center.
Next, an old man with a walking stick dressed in a Tang suit came out of the car and looked at Alex with a smile on his face.
"Welcome back, Young Master." Albert bowed.
"Welcome back, Young Master." The rows of men copied Albert and also bowed to Alex.
Initially, the arrival of the cars had caused a lot of commotion as the cars were very expensive.
Now the actions of Albert and the men had caused the crowd that had been watching to be shocked as they watched the scene.
Because Alex was not too far from the bar. Some of the waiters, Including the head waiter, had rushed out to see what was happening.
Seeing the scene, they were shocked as they wondered which family's Young Master was back. Because Alex was standing with his back facing them, they couldn't recognize him.
"Alright Albert, I think we should leave here first." Alex shook his head as he looked around.
Albert nodded and walked towards the car with Alex. Just as Alex was about to get into the car, he turned around and looked in the direction of the bar with a smile on his face.
Next, the driver of the car started the car and immediately drove off, disappearing along with the rows of the cars in just a few minutes.
Even after the cars had disappeared, the waiters at the bar felt a chill down their spine as they couldn't forget what they saw.
Alex was the one who had got into the car, he had turned around and looked at them with a smile. The smile on his face sent a chill down their spine and they couldn't imagine what he was going to do.
The head waiter on the other hand felt as though his heart was going to come out through his mouth as he couldn't believe his eyes. So Alex was from a rich family which explained why the manager has always refused to fire him.
The head waiter's heart was filled with dread as he thought about all the injustice he did to Alex. What if the latter came back to take revenge? He would be done for.
Thinking about this, he couldn't help but swallow a lump of saliva as sweat covered his forehead. He could only hope that Alex was not going to pursue it, or else he was dead.

Chapter 42: The Auction
With the mechanical accuracy that came from weeks of pretending he cared and years of not caring, Alex adjusted his cufflinks. In a room full of individuals who were all trying to make an impression, his well-fitting, understated navy suit was completely forgettable. That was a power move in and of itself. As they got closer to the Parker Foundation Annual Charity Auction door, Isaac, dressed like the most unobtrusive piece of furniture in the world, handed him a black folder."Are you certain about this?" Isaac muttered as he looked over the sandstone stairs that led to the structure. "You had the option of sending someone else to keep an eye on the room."Alex looked up at the big hall, which was owned by Parker, had been painstakingly restored, and was adorned with banners promoting "Urban Renewal through Private Partnership." The irony was so profound that it was worthy of a museum display.Alex said, "I'm not here to watch. My purpose is to rattle bones." Isaac grinned as he gave
Chapter 41: The Echoed Slap
That afternoon, the sun dared to be happy. Under well-kept lawns and glass balconies, Orange City's upper section, especially the 5 families have been invited to a party marking the 60th birthday of Mr. Simon. Perched atop a verdant hill, the Simon residence resembled a boutique hotel rather than a home. high arches. broad driveways. The guests all parked themselves, but there were uniformed valets. Soft jazz murmured through the open windows within. The back garden was covered with a big buffet table filled with expensive foods, including tiny crab cakes, some indistinguishable mousse in glass spoons, and skewers that looked more ornamental than actually been edible. Plate in hand, Alex watched the gathering with mild interest as he leaned against a pillar next to the open French doors. He was dressed in pants that were a tad too casual for the event and a simple white button-up shirt. Although his loafers were polished, it didn't take away from the reality that he didn't fit in

He got up and moved nonchalantly to the whiteboard near the far wall as Danica excused herself to get brochures. A basic outline of a restructuring plan had been put up, complete with names, dates, and most importantly the move of monies from "G.L. Ops" to "Council Rep Fund."Greenline once more.Pretending to
