"Sir, what do you mean?" Lucas asked, looking confused.
"Well then, I don't think I'm in the right position to answer that." Alex shook his head.
"What happened here?" Lucas immediately turned to the manager and asked.
"Sir, the sales girl was careless and she dropped a necklace worth over a million cashing it to shatter." The manager said as he hurriedly explained.
"Is that what happened?" Lucas looked at the sales girl and asked.
The sales girl who was already shocked with how things had developed was shocked to the bones when Lucas asked her the question. She couldn't believe Alex was this powerful, able to make the owner of the mall appear.
Though she couldn't understand why he was dressed in such a manner, she secretly made up her mind not to look down on anyone who was dressed shabbily though she didn't look down on him when she saw him first.
The crowd were also whispering to each other as the development of the matter also shocked them greatly and they couldn't help but pity the manager. They knew he was screwed as he had disrespected a big shot.
"Sir, that isn't the truth. The woman suddenly withdrew her hands when I was about to give her the necklace, causing it to slip from my hand and it fell." The sales girl replied after some time.
"Then what did you do?" Lucas frowned as he looked at the manager.
"I..." The manager shuttered as he didn't know what to say.
At the moment, he badly wished he had listened to Alex and hadn't looked down on him.
"You concluded she was lying right?" Lucas furrowed his brows as his voice became hoarse.
"Yes sir." The manager nodded slowly.
"Did you attempt to investigate to find out the truth of the matter?" Lucas' tone became grave as he asked.
"No sir." The manager shook his head.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Lucas immediately flew into a rage seeing this.
"Hey, you go to the security room and retrieve the security footage." Lucas turned to one of the security men and ordered.
One of the men nodded and immediately went to do what Lucas had ordered.
"Sir, the truth will soon be out. I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Lucas apologized as he looked at Alex.
"You shouldn't apologize to me, but to her who was wronged." Alex shook his head and pointed at the sales girl by his side.
"Sir, this is the footage." A voice came just as Lucas was about to tender his apology to the sales girl.
Lucas nodded, collected the footage and played it. Immediately, his expression changed. In the footage, the sales girl brought out the necklace carefully and wanted to give it to the woman.
But just as the necklace was about to get to her, she suddenly withdrew her hands and the necklace fell to the floor.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Lucas flew into a rage as he turned to the manager.
"You almost made an innocent soul go to prison."
"I'm sorry sir, it was my oversight." The manager put his head down and apologized.
"Oversight you call it, huh?" Lucas sneered.
"You'd better pack your things and get out of here Right now." Lucas raged.
"But...."
"Or are you right, I don't know about the Embezzlement and the harassment some of the employees have faced from you." Lucas sneered.
Immediately the man gulped in some Saliva and scrambled away with his tail in-between his legs.
"And you." Lucas turned to the woman.
But to his surprise the woman was no more there, she had slipped away quietly when she saw the way the situation had developed.
"Find her!" Lucas ordered.
Immediately, the security men dashed into the crowd, and in less than a minute, they dragged the woman back to Lucas.
"You broke a necklace worth a million." Lucas' said as he looked at the woman in disgust.
"According to the rules of the mall, the necklace is now yours, and you have to pay for it." Lucas continued.
"Furthermore, you have to pay for the damages you caused to my employee and that's five hundred thousand dollars."
"You're to pay up to a sum of one million five hundred thousand dollars," Lucas said.
"Guards, take her away to pay, afterward, throw her out of the mall. And if she's unable to pay, hand her over to the police." Lucas commanded and looked at the men.
"Yes sir," The men nodded and they immediately dragged the woman away.
"I'm very sorry about the way things were handled." Lucas turned to the sales girl and apologized.
"It's alright sir." The sales girl replied nervously. She couldn't help but feel rather grateful to Alex, if it was not for him, she would be spending her time in prison for something she didn't know about.
"The mall will give you a sum of one million dollars for the mental damage caused to you by the improper handling of things." Lucas continued.
"But sir..."
"Please accept it, it's the mall's loss this time." Lucas interrupted her.
"Also, I'd like to announce that you've been promoted to the position of Manager."
"Congratulations on your new post. I hope you'll be able to manage the activity of the mall." Lucas smiled as he stretched his hands forward to congratulate the sales girl.
The sales girl took Lucas' handshake in confusion as she didn't know what to do. She knew that all these wouldn't have happened if Alex hadn't stepped in and helped her.
Alex on the other hand nodded in satisfaction with the way Lucas had handled the situation. He had acted swiftly and he was impressed. He had even decided to promote the sales girl on the spot.
Well then it was her luck, sometimes, there was a blessing amidst misfortune.
"Sir, what do you think?" Lucas turned to look at Alex who was looking at the scene with a smile on his face.
"Well it's quite alright, I'm satisfied." Alex nodded as he turned to the sales girl.
"Congratulations on your promotion." Alex smiled and stretched his hands forward for a handshake congratulating the girl.
"Sir, where are you headed right now, I'll take you there." Lucas smiled as he looked at Alex.
"It's alright, I still want to take a look around, there's something I want to get," Alex replied.
"Sir, no matter what you buy, the mall will give it to you for free." Lucas smiled as he said.
"Alright, I appreciate that." Alex nodded and didn't say anything else.
Lucas sighed seeing Alex walk away. He has passed an ordeal. Now he should head back quickly to sign the contract before Albert was going to change his mind.
"Sir." The salesgirl came back to her senses when she saw that Alex was about to leave the mall.
"Yes." Alex stopped in his tracks as he turned around to look at the girl.
"Sir, thank you very much for helping me back there." The girl thanked Alex, tears streaming down her face.
"It's alright, it was nothing." Alex waved his hands with a slight smile.
Who knows if things wouldn't have developed into this if the woman hadn't tried to pick on him? If not for that he wouldn't have been interested in the matter.
"Sir, I'm willing to do anything you want from now on." The sales girl suddenly said, her world jolting Alex out of his thoughts.
"Anything I want?" Alex's mouth curled up into a smirk as he looked at the girl.
"Yes sir." The girl put her head down as her face became red in embarrassment.
"Alright, what I want is for you to work hard and become successful. Don't be like the manager who was just sacked." Alex chuckled as he patted the girl on the shoulder before walking out of the mall.
The girl stood at the stop for a while as she couldn't believe her ears. Though Alex didn't know her, he had helped her and demanded nothing in return. In the past, all those who wanted to help her had always asked for something in return.
Alex sighed as he walked out of the mall, he had just wasted his time at the mall. He should head to Nebular Enterprise. He was sure that the old man would have been done with the contract.
Then they were going to head to North East. A lot of things were waiting for him in North East.
Thinking about all these Alex sighed and pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind and flagged down a taxi.
One of the reasons he was eager to return to North East was to investigate the cause of his parent's deaths.
His grandfather had once told him that the accident that killed his parents was planned. He then asked his grandfather why he didn't investigate the matter.
But his grandfather told him that the battle was for him to fight, he had to investigate the cause of his parent's death himself and bring the killers to justice.
Now that he was finally going to inherit the family's business, he would be able to kickstart the investigation. It was not only his family that was powerful in North East. Other families were as powerful as his family even though his family managed to suppress them all.
Alex sighed and directly threw the matter to the back of his mind. It was not something he could rush so he wasn't in a hurry at the moment. First, he should go meet Albert at Nebular Enterprise.
Thinking about this, Alex flagged down a taxi and got in. Telling the driver where he was headed, the driver drove off almost immediately.
In a short while, the car pulled up in front of a huge Company. Alex alighted from the car and looked at the company.
Pushing all thoughts to the back of his mind, Alex walked towards the company with a smile on his face.
"And who do we have here?" A sneer came just as Alex was about to walk into the gate of the company.

Chapter 42: The Auction
With the mechanical accuracy that came from weeks of pretending he cared and years of not caring, Alex adjusted his cufflinks. In a room full of individuals who were all trying to make an impression, his well-fitting, understated navy suit was completely forgettable. That was a power move in and of itself. As they got closer to the Parker Foundation Annual Charity Auction door, Isaac, dressed like the most unobtrusive piece of furniture in the world, handed him a black folder."Are you certain about this?" Isaac muttered as he looked over the sandstone stairs that led to the structure. "You had the option of sending someone else to keep an eye on the room."Alex looked up at the big hall, which was owned by Parker, had been painstakingly restored, and was adorned with banners promoting "Urban Renewal through Private Partnership." The irony was so profound that it was worthy of a museum display.Alex said, "I'm not here to watch. My purpose is to rattle bones." Isaac grinned as he gave
Chapter 41: The Echoed Slap
That afternoon, the sun dared to be happy. Under well-kept lawns and glass balconies, Orange City's upper section, especially the 5 families have been invited to a party marking the 60th birthday of Mr. Simon. Perched atop a verdant hill, the Simon residence resembled a boutique hotel rather than a home. high arches. broad driveways. The guests all parked themselves, but there were uniformed valets. Soft jazz murmured through the open windows within. The back garden was covered with a big buffet table filled with expensive foods, including tiny crab cakes, some indistinguishable mousse in glass spoons, and skewers that looked more ornamental than actually been edible. Plate in hand, Alex watched the gathering with mild interest as he leaned against a pillar next to the open French doors. He was dressed in pants that were a tad too casual for the event and a simple white button-up shirt. Although his loafers were polished, it didn't take away from the reality that he didn't fit in

He got up and moved nonchalantly to the whiteboard near the far wall as Danica excused herself to get brochures. A basic outline of a restructuring plan had been put up, complete with names, dates, and most importantly the move of monies from "G.L. Ops" to "Council Rep Fund."Greenline once more.Pretending to
