Zoriel was suddenly gripped by panic when he heard Alfred’s final words.

He wanted him to be buried alive. That meant—he wanted him dead.

“W-What?”

Zoriel tried to sit up, but someone kicked him in the back, forcing him to lie down again.

“Take him!” Alfred ordered.

Before Zoriel could even protest, someone grabbed his arms again. They forced him to his feet and dragged him to a car.

As soon as they shoved him inside, a plastic bag was pulled over his head, making it hard for him to breathe.

His hands and feet were tied as well, leaving him completely immobile.

“L-Lily…” Zoriel called weakly to his fairy friend.

He hoped she would come and help him now. But his heart sank as he remembered—she had said goodbye earlier. She had something to attend to for her Santhigar training.

Zoriel cursed in his head.

Moments later, he felt the car engine start. He tried to stay conscious during the ride.

From what he could tell, they drove for over an hour.

Despite trying to resist sleep, he eventually drifted off and only woke up when his head hit the side of the car.

The car door suddenly swung open, and someone yanked him out again.

They forced him to his knees on the ground.

When the cover over his face was removed, Zoriel saw that they were deep in a dark forest.

The only light came from the headlights of the parked car beside them.

Zoriel immediately searched for Jessa with his eyes.

He saw her standing just in front of him, beside Alfred.

He hoped—at the very least—to see a flicker of sympathy on her face.

But she quickly looked away.

A sharp pain stabbed Zoriel’s chest again.

Did everything they shared really mean nothing to her?

“Alfred, babe… are you really sure about this?” Jessa asked, holding onto her boyfriend’s arm.

Alfred frowned and looked at her.

“Of course. Why? You don’t want to? This will solve your problem for good. What if he asks for something else just to sign the divorce papers?”

Jessa pouted.

“I know… but don’t you think this is too much? And won’t this ruin your record?”

Alfred smirked and turned to face her fully.

“Babe, don’t worry. Did you forget? I’m the mayor here. I can do whatever I want. This is my place,” he said smugly.

Jessa gave him a wide smile.

“Fine. I’m just worried about you.”

“You can stop worrying about me, Babe.”

She nodded and leaned against his arm, then looked at Zoriel like he disgusted her.

She approached him and whispered into his ear.

“Heard that, Zoriel? If only you agreed to what I want, none of this would be happening to you.”

Zoriel’s eyes narrowed.

He stared at his ex-wife.

“Have you ever thought that maybe he’s just using you, too, Jessa? Do you really think he’ll love you forever? I don’t think so.”

Zoriel shook his head.

“And you will never get that house.”

Jessa’s smile vanished.

“What? You still have the nerve to say that?!” she snapped.

She stood up and slapped him hard.

“I really hated that I married trash like you!”

Alfred stepped forward.

“Don’t worry, Zoriel. Jessa will be a queen as my wife. I’ll give her everything you couldn’t. And I’ll make sure you die full of envy.”

Zoriel chuckled.

“You’ll never know, Mr. Mayor. The world turns. You may hurt me now—or even kill me—but karma will catch up with you. And I’ll make sure I’m there to watch it happen with my own eyes.”

As he spoke, Zoriel could feel his necklace heating up.

He tried to ignore it, focusing instead on figuring out how to escape this situation.

He saw Alfred’s bodyguards already digging a hole in the ground.

He was certain that’s where they planned to dump him.

But Zoriel wasn’t going to let this be the end of him.

“You really don’t know when to shut up, huh?” Alfred snapped.

He walked over to one of his guards and took the gun from the man’s belt. He cocked it and aimed it straight at Zoriel’s head.

“Let’s see if you’re still brave now!”

Zoriel’s body tensed for a moment. He knew that if Alfred pulled the trigger, it would be over.

But he wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of seeing him tremble.

“Do it if you can,” Zoriel dared.

Alfred’s rage flared.

“You—!”

Zoriel smirked mockingly—but the smirk quickly faded when the heat from his necklace intensified.

He let out a hiss of pain.

“What the hell?!” Alfred exclaimed in shock.

Zoriel, confused, glanced up at him.

Alfred was no longer looking at him—but past him, eyes wide in horror.

The gun that had been pointed at Zoriel’s head… was now aimed behind him.

Zoriel’s body went cold.

Slowly, he turned around—

And there it was.

A massive figure stood behind him, its skin pitch-black.

It held a tobacco pipe, puffing smoke toward them.

“What the hell are you!?”

“What should we do?” Zoriel asked. They were all gathered in the living room, facing Agnes. Zenaida was busy grinding medicinal herbs in a small stone pounder. Besides... it looks like she’s about to give birth!”Zoriel’s brows furrowed. He looked at Agnes’s belly, which still appeared small—barely two months along, if that.“Her stomach’s still small. How can she be about to give birth?” he asked, confused. Both Caloy and Agnes turned to Zoriel at once.“What?! I-I’m about to give birth?!” Agnes asked in shock.“S-She’s really pregnant? How? There was something strange—something special—about the leaves Zenaida kept applying to it.It was only when he was finally able to stand that he realized the house they were staying in used to belong to his grandfather. The old wooden house was fairly large. Despite its age, it remained in good shape, with barely any damage. There were a few holes in the roof—after all, it was made of nipa and some parts had come loose—but the walls and the foundation were still strong. It was built on four sturdy stilts, raised above the ground, with a space underneath. To an outsider, it might look like someone still lived there. The area around the house was well-kept. Not a single weed could be found—only vibrant, colorful flowers filled the yard.“Did you find it already?” Zoriel asked Zenaida. They were having lunch.
