With that thought in mind, Joseph stepped out of his car and headed toward his office. Taking the elevator to the fifth floor, he walked down the hallway. As he turned a corner, a figure suddenly appeared, and they nearly collided.

Fortunately, Joseph had learned his lesson from that morning and managed to stop himself just in time, avoiding another mishap.

"Hey, Professor Wilson! What’s your deal? How is it you again? Are you doing this on purpose? Were you just standing here, waiting to bump into me?"

"Good thing I’m not holding water this time, or I’d have to go back and change again," a familiar, melodious voice said.

Joseph looked up and felt a pang of exasperation. It was none other than Mason Alvarez. What were the odds?

Mason stared at him, her expression filled with feigned annoyance. She couldn’t deny there was something strangely fateful about her interactions with this man. Even walking down the hallway, they somehow managed to run into each other.

“Hahaha… No mistake at all—how could it be? This is your doing.”“If not for you, why would Mr. Richard Anderson speak so warmly on our behalf? Without his help, it would be difficult for us to secure the Havencrest Medical Center site.”Geoffrey Harris laughed again.Joseph, however, was still a little at sea.“How do you figure?”He asked.“Here’s how it went—let me walk you through it.”Geoffrey’s tone was enthusiastic. He then recounted the day’s events in detail, including all the delicate turns and hinges in between.Joseph listened patiently until he finally understood.“I merely spoke from a sense of public duty. Nothing more.”He answered with quiet modesty.“Whatever the case, the credit is yours. You provided the finishing touch, Mr. Wilson.”Geoffrey sounded genuinely gratified.“You flatter me, Principal.”Joseph was embarrassed by the praise.“Mr. Wilson, the deanship of Nova University’s Sixth Affiliated Hospital will be hard for you to decline.”Geoffrey said it with m

They clinked cups again—tea standing in for wine—and the whole ritual was faintly comical.“Mr. Anderson, your thinking and mine align perfectly.”“But in your view, after your response to the inquiry, how confident are we that Nova University can secure the site?”Geoffrey Harris asked between bites.“One hundred percent.”Richard Anderson answered without hesitation.“One hundred percent?”Geoffrey was stunned—the good news was dizzyingly abrupt.“The government’s position is essentially to let Nova City determine how to use the land.”“Havencrest Medical Center sits on our soil. We get to decide how to handle it. If we’re talking public-interest projects, the government has no grounds to refuse.”Richard elaborated.“Then I can promise this: whether Mr. Wilson likes it or not, Nova University will push him to take the deanship of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital.”Geoffrey spoke with complete conviction.“Hahaha… that’s an internal university decision; I won’t weigh in. But I trust yo

“Come now, Mr. Anderson, you’re being overly cautious. We’re off the clock—this is our personal time, just a private catch-up.”“And besides, it’s only a slightly pricier meal. Hardly a scandal.”Geoffrey Harris hurried to explain.“Let it slide this once, but don’t do it again. There really are rules.”Richard Anderson sounded helpless.“All right, all right—have it your way, Mr. Anderson.”Geoffrey picked up the menu and began ordering. After choosing a few dishes, he offered it to Richard, who politely declined.“Principal Harris, you handle it. Just don’t order alcohol—we have regulations.”Richard reminded him.“Of course not. Just ordinary dishes.”“That’ll do for now.”“By the way, what did you want to discuss with me today, Mr. Anderson?”After handing the menu to the server, Geoffrey turned to him.“Actually, I asked to see you to talk shop.”Richard wore a mild smile.“Oh? Don’t tell me there’s been progress with Havencrest Medical Center?”Geoffrey’s eyes lit up, a pleased

“Wasn’t everything just fine? Why the ‘nourishing’ bit?”Joseph sighed, helpless.“Oh, drop the act. Haven’t you felt completely drained these past few days?”“Little Nini and I only stopped pestering you because we were worried you couldn’t handle it.”“Well? Don’t we treat you well?”Mason Alvarez shot Joseph a look as she spoke.“You’re both very good to me. Really.”Joseph’s answer was perfunctory, though a faint smile tugged at his lips.“Perfuctory.”“Then give me a kiss.”Mason Alvarez tilted her face to him.“This isn’t exactly appropriate. It’s early.”Joseph was exasperated.“What’s inappropriate about it? Hurry up.”Mason Alvarez wouldn’t let it go.Under her insistence, Joseph finally surrendered and brushed a light kiss against her impossibly lovely cheek. There was no denying it—she was pure witchcraft.Any other man would have lost his composure.“Smooch!”After his quick peck, Mason smacked a hot, lingering kiss right back onto Joseph.“I’m going to wash up.”Mason ros

For the next hour or so, Joseph endured a blissful kind of torment.Only after that did the two women finally set him free.He spent a short while in his room, then went to shower. When he came out, the hall was empty—Mason Alvarez and Alice were nowhere to be seen. It was only a little past ten, yet both had gone to bed early.Even more surprising, he drifted off without trouble. Neither of them sneaked in to tease him that night. It felt a little strange, but hardly a bad thing. Some things were best done in moderation. He could handle it, but Mason and Alice were still delicate; they shouldn’t be run ragged. After all, his constitution wasn’t exactly average. He hadn’t been in bed long before sleep took him.He turned in early; naturally, he rose early too. Before eight, he’d already made breakfast. The two lazybones, Alice and Mason, showed no sign of getting up.Since they wanted to sleep in, Joseph didn’t call them—he simply left breakfast set out on the table. After eating, he

“I just ate. I’m not hungry—no need for a late-night snack.”Joseph smiled.“Alright then—how about some fruit? I’ll go wash some.”Alice’s eyes sparkled; she grinned.“Fruit sounds perfect.”Joseph replied.“Then I’ll get it. Go sit on the sofa and relax.”She pecked Joseph on the cheek again before trotting off to the kitchen.“Unbelievable. I just said the fruit was gone and told her to wash some—she wouldn’t budge. Now she rushes off on her own.”“Priorities, priorities. Traitor to friendship. Wretched woman.”Mason Alvarez threw her arms up theatrically.“Why are you always bossing her around?”Joseph poured himself a glass of water and settled onto the sofa.“Mr. Wilson—mwah! mua! (╯3╰)”No sooner had he sat than Mason swooped in for a mock kiss, leaving Joseph momentarily nonplussed.“Tch. What’s that look? Are you disgusted?”“The little one kisses you and you beam. I kiss you and you look like you’ve swallowed a lemon.”“You shameless man—such favoritism.”Mason pouted at his
