In the realm, they stood in the middle of an isolated plain. The valley stretched endlessly in every direction. It was dry and scorching hot, yet there was no sun or any other source of light in the sky. The air was thick—too thick. Even their garments remained still, barely moving.

“Everyone stay on alert. Don’t wander off.” Mo Yueli announced, her voice rang across the valley.

Everyone turned to her, irritation flashing across their faces. Everyone except Shen Wuyin.

Mo Yueli stared at them one by one. She crossed her arms under her bust and clicked her tongue. Tsk!

“Why are you all looking at me like that?” She snapped.

Shen Wuyin shook his head slightly and turned around, scanning the environment with his gaze.

“The spiritual energy here is too turgid.” He muttered as his gaze moved from one corner of the valley to another. “The serenity is rather alarming.”

Xie Linger let out a small scoff and rolled her eyes.

Mo Yueli noticed. Her expression darkened as she marched over and stopped directly in front of her.

“How dare you roll your eyes at me?” She snapped.

The others took a step back, their gaze locked on the two.

Xie Linger folded her arms and let out a sharp breath. “We just got in and you are already acting like you are better than everyone else.”

A series of gasps filled the air.

Shen Wuyin stepped aside, observing the plain for any threats.

Mo Yueli clicked her lips sharply, more like a warning, but Xie Linger didn’t catch it.

“So far, my dad has taught me about the southern realm is that the beasts and creatures are sensitive to noise, especially that of humans. And now you just yelled instructions like we all haven't been briefed about the rules already.”

Mo Yueli let out a bitter scoff. “That much ‘wisdom’ and your old man is still serving tables.” She jeered.

The others’ eyes widened in disgust.

“Your majesty, Xie Linger is right.” One of the men said, his expression stern.

Mo Yueli turned to him. “And you are?”

The man drew his brows together. “I am Tang Luo.” He responded without a fuss.

Mo Yueli ran her gaze over him as though he had rags on. “Who gave you the right to interfere? What do you even know to have the guts to challenge me?” She thundered.

The others lowered their heads and murmured amongst themselves.

“The moment the sect leader allowed her to join, I knew we were up for drama.”

“How can a calm, respectable elder like Sect Leader have a defiant and arrogant daughter like her?”

“I doubt she’s his blood daughter because his other daughters are soft-spoken. Too bad he loves her more than the others.”

“Maybe that’s why she is like this.”

Their whispers filled the air.

Tang Luo squinted his eyes. Now I understand why the maidens from the palace complains daily about her, he thought.

Mo Yueli lifted her hand. Immediately, her sword materialized in her grip.

“As it should be, I am your leader here on. Every word I speak is law and you must abide by it.”

A small laugh escaped Tang Luo before he could stop himself.

Mo Yueli raised a brow.

Tang Luo leaned forward and pressed his lips together in a desperate attempt to hold back his laughter.

He raised his hands. “My bad.” He choked out.

“Last I remembered, your father, the sect leader, said we have the right to vote our leader, and none of us voted you into the position you so acclaimed. Which only makes your words suggestions and not law..” He said unapologetically.

Xie Linger laughed loudly. She pressed her hand over her lips quickly.

“Oh no, I hope my laughter didn’t wake any of the sleeping beasts?” She muttered in her thoughts.

Mo Yueli’s grip on her sword tightened. Before she could utter another word, the ground beneath them shook.

Across the plain, Shen Wuyin sat on the ground, his legs crossed, eyes shut with his fists pressed together before him.

Green flames swirled around him. Within seconds, a white constellation materialized beneath him.

Everyone staggered backward, their eyes widened with terror.

The ground beneath their feet cracked open slowly. A large number of them took to their heels towards Shen Wuyin.

Xie Linger channeled qi to her feet, propelling her forward, leaving Mo Yueli standing alone with her sword, ready to strike.

“This is my chance to show them who is boss.” She grinned, flipping her ponytail.

A dark abyss stretched beneath the crack.

Just as Mo Yueli tried to peep in, an outburst of bats tore from the opening, their movement swift. Unlike the bats in the mortal realm, these had three purple eyes. Their canines were much longer.

On reaching Shen Wuyin, Xie Linger dropped beside him.

“Is he really cultivating right now?” She muttered, reaching for his shoulder.

“Don’t touch him!” Tang Luo caught her wrist just in time. A small gasp escaped her lips. “He is obviously cultivating. Let him be.” Tang Luo added.

Xie Linger nodded and stepped to the side.

“The princess…what is she doing?” One of the men muttered, his gaze locked on Mo Yueli across the plain.

Everyone turned to him before locking their gaze on Mo Yueli.

Tang Luo face-palmed. “What’s wrong with her?”

Xie Linger’s nostrils flared. “She is always looking for ways to gain attention.”

“Oh no.” Mo Yueli’s maidservant trembled, her eyes widened. “I shouldn’t have left…”

Xie Linger sucked her teeth. “Come on! She clearly wanted to remain behind. So stop whining.”

The maidservant shook her head vehemently.

“I was supposed to be with her, not away from her.” She said, her voice now cracking with emotion.

Xie Linger snorted. “You should be praying she survives this.”

Across the plain, Mo Yueli unleashed her techniques, slashing her sword in the air. A dozen of the bats vanished under her blade, yet the number left was way too many for her.

She released her protective barrier and released multiple strikes. Within a minute, the bats were all gone.

Mo Yueli shrugged and retracted her sword, burying the tip into the ground.

“Now they know who’s boss.” She said smugly.

Just then, a long, two-headed serpent pulled out of the crack. Its enormous body slowly coiled out of the abyss, each movement causing the earth beneath it to tremble. Its emerald scales shimmered faintly, reflecting the little light that hung over the plain.

Two massive heads rose into the air, each with a pair of glowing red eyes fixed on Mo Yueli. Its long fangs protruded from its mouths as it hissed, the sound echoing across the plain.

Mo Yueli scrambled backward, her jaw slackened.

The serpent towered high above her, its two heads swaying menacingly as its overwhelming presence pressed down on the entire plain. Mo Yueli's knees buckled, forcing her to the ground.
