Shen Wuyin and twenty other men stood in the royal court, their combat robes well-fitted, with blue sacks in their hands.

Before them stood Luo Yuyan, his hands clasped behind him.

“Cultivators, as you already know, this hunt is beneficial for the sect and every individual present. The rules remain the same.” His voice rang across the courtyard.

“Every retrieved item must be presented to the council on arrival. You all must work together no matter the dispute. Don’t attack any beast individually except directed by the head operator, which you guys will vote yourselves on entering the realm.

Tent on safe grounds, not in open fields.”

The cultivators nodded in unison.

Shen Wuyin stood in the front row, his gaze locked on Luo Yuyan.

“A spirit realm opening in the mortal realm?” He thought, squinting. “Then it really must be worth the haunt.” He lowered his gaze to his body. “This body still needs refining, and this realm opening might just be what it needs.”

“You all can go now. The Xie Xie cart will transport you all to Mount Sinep. Good luck.” He added.

The men bowed their heads with their fists pressed together before them.

Luo Yuyan waved his hands. That was their gesture to leave.

Immediately, they turned and walked out of the courtyard into the departure yard.

“Wait!” Mo Yueli’s voice echoed from the other end of the courtyard.

Everyone paused, including Shen Wuyin.

Slowly, they turned towards her. Hurriedly, she rushed over to Luo Yuyan, wearing a lilac morbat robe. Her hair was packed into a ponytail.

Two maidens flanked her sides.

Luo Yuyan’s brows furrowed. Slowly, he lowered his hands to his sides.

“You should be resting in your chambers, Mo.” He said quickly, his voice firm.

Mo Yueli stood before him, her gaze lowered to the ground briefly before meeting his.

“Father, I’ve recovered fully.” She said.

Luo Yuyan tilted his head slightly, his gaze narrowed.

“Mo, there’s no need to lie about your recovery. I spoke to the physician last night, and she assured me that you’d recover fully in two days. It isn’t even up to a day yet.”

A small scoff escaped Shen Wuyin before he could stop it.

“Let me guess, she wants to participate in the haunt.” He sneered inwardly.

Luo Yuyan let out an exhausted sigh.

“I know I promised to let you go for this batch, but I’m sorry I have to go back on my word.”

Mo Yueli’s eyes widened.

“Go back on your word?” She repeated.

Luo Yuyan nodded.

“You can’t go with this batch till I’m certain that you’ve recovered completely.” His voice was more firm now.

Mo Yueli’s face twisted with rage.

“I’ve fully recovered, you can ask the physician yourself.”

Shen Wuyin lifted a brow.

Luo Yuyan snapped his fingers. Immediately, a middle-aged woman walked into the courtyard.

On reaching Luo Yuyan, she genuflected and met his gaze.

“Tell me.” Luo Yuyan began. “Is Mo Yueli fully recovered?”

The physician smiled—barely.

“Sect Leader, I assessed her this morning and, to my surprise….” She paused for a second and drew a forced breath before continuing. “She has healed much faster than I thought.”

Luo Yuyan let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. He shifted his gaze to Mo Yueli, who was grinning from ear to ear.

“I don’t feel settled….”

“Father, you promised.” She interjected sharply, her voice pitched.

Shen Wuyin shook his head slightly and turned towards the exit.

Luo Yuyan nodded and folded his arms behind him.

“Okay, Mo. You can go with them, but on one condition.”

Mo Yueli’s eyes lit up, her countenance brightened.

“What condition, father?”

“You’ll have to go with a maiden to assist you peradventure they be any crisis.” Luo Yuyan said.

The moment he said those words, Mo Yueli’s expression hardened.

“Father, that’s a liability.” She pouted, her voice cutting through the air.

The cultivators murmured amongst themselves.

“Did she just call her maid servant a liability?”

Luo Yuyan’s eyes widened. His eyes darkened.

“No one in this sect is a liability, Mo. Don’t refer to anyone as such.” He warned.

Mo Yueli furrowed her brows, her nostrils flattened.

“But father, why do I need one when she wouldn’t be able to fight at least? She might be useful to carry my luggage, but she would be a deadbeat when we are attacked.” She said unapologetically.

Luo Yuyan lowered his head and let out a sharp breath.

“Princess Mo, you are going with a maiden.” The intensity of his voice silenced the thoughts in Mo Yueli’s mind.

Silence fell throughout the yard for a few seconds longer than necessary.

I have no other choice. If I don’t accept his condition, he won’t let me go, she thought.

With that, she nodded.

“Xie Linger.” Luo Yuyan called out.

Almost immediately, Xie darted into the courtyard and bowed before Luo Yuyan.

Mo Yueli’s eyes narrowed as she ran her gaze over Xie Linger with open contempt.

“Since you will be going, it will only be fair if I grant Xie Linger’s request to join the batch.” Luo Yuyan said.

The moment he said those words, Mo Yueli’s eyes widened. Her lips parted slightly.

“Father…”

Luo Yuyan raised his hand in the air.

“No ifs and buts.”

Xie Linger squeaked with excitement.

“Thank you so much, Sect Leader. I promise to not fail you and the sect.”

Luo Yuyan tapped her shoulder and turned towards his court entrance.

On arriving at Mount Sinep, everyone alighted from the carriage swiftly.

Xie Linger stood beside Shen Wuyin, her cheeks flushed red. Opposite them stood Mo Yueli and her maidservant.

“Why is that Xie Linger blushing like a tomato?” Mo Yueli rolled her eyes and folded her arms under her bust.

The carriage rider stood in front of them with a small book in his hand. After reciting a few words, the mountain’s peak lit up with blue flames, so bright everyone shut their eyes.

“After two minutes, you all can go in. Remember, once you are in, you can’t get out till the realm closes after three days. Once it closes, all the survivors will be teleported out, right here.” The carriage rider said.

They all nodded.

Once the two minutes were up, the carriage rider ordered them in.

On stepping into the center force of the light, every individual faded out of sight, leaving only the carriage rider standing on the summit.
