Fifty stories above the rain-slicked asphalt of Aethelgard, Jaxith Vance held a man by his windpipe over the jagged edge of the shattered penthouse window.

Wind screamed through the high-rise gap, driving icy torrents of rain into the ruined suite. Below them, the flashing red lights of four downed tactical helicopters illuminated the smoking wreckage in the street, where Viper’s undercity enforcers had just been systematically dismantled.

"Give me a name, Marcus," Jaxith growled, his voice a low, terrifying rumble that vibrated through the traitor’s choking throat.

Marcus—Elena Rostova’s former chief of security—clawed wildly at Jaxith’s iron fingers. His legs dangled uselessly over the five-hundred-foot drop, his dark tactical vest torn to shreds by shadow blades. Blood mixed with rainwater dripped from his swollen jaw onto Jaxith’s polished shoe.

"I... I was just following orders!" Marcus choked out, his eyes bulging with frantic, unadulterated terror as his boots kicked at empty air. "Julian Vance paid me twenty million! He said... he said the Apex Council would protect me!"

"Julian Vance is currently sitting in a damp holding cell awaiting trial," Elena Rostova spoke from the dark interior of the room, her voice a sharp, seductive blade that cut through the roaring wind.

Elena walked slowly toward the shattered window, her custom titanium blade resting lightly in her hand, the steel reflecting the neon glow of the city below. Her dark hair was wet, plastered against her cheeks, but her eyes held a cold, ruthless clarity.

She stopped beside Jaxith, looking down at her former most trusted bodyguard without a shred of pity.

"You served my father for twelve years, Marcus," Elena said softly, stepping closer until the tip of her blade grazed the traitor’s trembling cheek. "He treated you like a son. I treated you like a brother. And you handed our security codes to Viper for a wire transfer?"

"Elena... please!" Marcus sobbed, rain washing the blood down his neck. "They threatened my family! The Apex Council... they don't give you a choice! If I didn't take the bribe, they were going to erase my entire bloodline!"

Jaxith’s dark eyes narrowed, his grip on Marcus’s neck tightening until the bone began to groan under the pressure. Subtle wisps of black Shadow Mana coiled around Jaxith’s arm, seeping directly into Marcus’s skin, freezing the traitor's veins from the inside out.

"The Council doesn't issue orders directly to low-level security chief trash like you," Jaxith murmured, bringing Marcus an inch closer to his face. "Who was the mid-level handler? Who gave you the Zurich vault override keys?"

Marcus gasped for air, his face turning an unhealthy shade of purple under the dark mana's suffocating weight. "The... the handler... he’s inside Rostova Enterprises! He’s on your executive board, Elena!"

Elena’s posture went instantly rigid. Her dark eyes flashed with lethal intensity. "Which board member?"

"Director... Director Hayes!" Marcus wheezed, his fingers slipping off Jaxith’s wrist. "He’s the one who authorized the Excommunicado deposit! He’s meeting the Council’s regional director at the Black Lotus Club in thirty minutes!"

Elena looked at Jaxith, a cold, predatory smile curving her lips despite the betrayal. "Director Hayes. My father’s personal treasurer."

"Thank you for your cooperation, Marcus," Jaxith whispered softly into the traitor's ear.

"Wait! I told you everything!" Marcus shrieked, his voice cracking with pure horror as he realized his usefulness had just expired. "You promised—"

"I never promised anything," Jaxith growled.

Jaxith opened his fingers.

Marcus plummeted into the dark abyss, his screaming voice swallowed instantly by the roaring wind and rain as he fell fifty stories to the pavement below.

Jaxith turned around smoothly, casually pulling a white silk handkerchief from his breast pocket to wipe the rain and blood from his knuckles. The dark shadow mana surrounding his body slowly receded into his skin, leaving his obsidian suit immaculate despite the chaos around them.

"Thirty minutes," Elena noted, checking her tactical wristwatch. "The Black Lotus Club is in the Undercity district. Viper’s remaining loyalists will be guarding the perimeter."

"Then they will die with Director Hayes," Jaxith replied smoothly, stepping toward her. He reached out, his long fingers cupping her jaw, brushing a wet strand of dark hair behind her ear. His touch was warm, possessive, and completely unyielding. "Are you ready to cut the last root of your family's treason, my queen?"

Elena leaned into his palm for a fraction of a second, her dark eyes locking onto his with an electric, undeniable passion. "I've been ready since five years ago, Shadow Sovereign."

---

Twenty minutes later. The Undercity District, Aethelgard.

The heavy, bass-heavy thud of electronic music vibrated through the thick concrete walls of the Black Lotus Club—an exclusive, subterranean haven for Aethelgard’s most dangerous crime lords, corrupt politicians, and black-market arms dealers.

In the private VIP mezzanine overlooking the crowded dance floor, Director Hayes sat in a red velvet booth, sweating profusely despite the cool air conditioning. He nervously adjusted his gold wire-rimmed glasses, taking a gulplist gulp from his crystal glass of bourbon as he looked at the dark-robed figure sitting across from him.

"The operation at Vance Tower failed," Hayes stammered, his voice trembling violently. "Viper is dead! The helicopters were shot out of the sky! Jaxith Vance has whole control over the city's trade routes!"

The dark-robed figure didn't flinch. He casually raised a gloved hand, swirling the dark liquid in his glass. "Calm yourself, Director. The Apex Council does not measure victory in single battles. Jaxith Vance may hold Aethelgard's paper shares, but he is still just a man of flesh and blood. An Excommunicado contract never expires."

"You don't understand!" Hayes hissed, leaning across the low table. "Elena Rostova knows there's a mole! If she traces the Zurich wire back to my personal account—"

"She already did," a smooth, velvet voice echoed from the shadows behind the velvet curtain.

Director Hayes froze, his glass slipping from his trembling fingers and shattering on the polished table.

The thick red curtain was sliced in half by a flash of silver steel. Elena Rostova stepped into the VIP booth, her leather trench coat open to reveal her custom tactical suit, her suppressed pistol aimed straight between Director Hayes's eyes.

Beside her, Jaxith Vance emerged from the dark like an untouchable god of vengeance, his broad shoulders blocking the only exit, his dark eyes glowing with a terrifying, crimson spark.

"D-Director Rostova... Jaxith!" Hayes shrieked, backing into the velvet cushions until he couldn't move any further. "Security! Guards!"

Down on the lower floor, twenty armed syndicate enforcers raised their weapons toward the VIP booth, but before a single trigger could be squeezed, Kaelen and the Shadow Syndicate strike team dropped from the ceiling rafters like ghosts, executing the guards with terrifying, silent precision.

The music cut off instantly, replaced by the screams of fleeing club patrons as the Undercity stronghold was systematically cleansed.

Inside the VIP booth, the dark-robed figure slowly set his glass down, looking up at Jaxith with cold, unbothered eyes.

"Jaxith Vance," the robed man spoke, his voice modulated through a metallic synthesizer. "The Shadow Sovereign of Aethelgard. The Apex Council offers you one final opportunity to submit. Hand over the Sovereign Core, execute the Rostova heiress, and you will be granted a seat among the Council of Seven."

Jaxith didn't answer with words.

He took a single step forward, his boot crushing the broken glass on the floor.

*Sovereign Pressure!*

A suffocating wave of heavy, dark kinetic force exploded from Jaxith’s chest, instantly crushing the heavy oak table into splinters and slamming the robed figure flat against the concrete wall behind him. The dark hood was torn away, revealing the pale, tattooed face of an Apex Council High Enforcer.

"I don't negotiate with parasites," Jaxith growled, stepping into the enforcer's space and driving his palm directly into the man's sternum.

Dark shadow mana surged through the enforcer's body, shattering his ribs and destroying his internal communications array in a single, cold strike. The enforcer gasped, spitting dark blood onto Jaxith's cuff before slumping unconscious onto the ruined velvet sofa.

Elena stepped up to Director Hayes, who was hyperventilating on his knees, weeping uncontrollably.

"Please, Elena!" Hayes sobbed, clutching her leather boots. "I was forced! The Council threatened my family!"

"You sold my father's life for a thirty-percent commission, Hayes," Elena said softly, her dark eyes completely devoid of mercy. "There is no forgiveness for Judas in my house."

*Pfft.*

A single suppressed shot echoed through the private booth. Director Hayes collapsed onto the velvet rug, his lifeless eyes staring blankly at the ceiling.

Elena reloaded her magazine with practiced, elegant ease, turning to look at Jaxith, who was examining an encrypted gold token retrieved from the unconscious Apex Enforcer's pocket.

"What is that?" Elena asked, stepping close to him, her breathing steady, her body radiating that electric physical heat that always drew him in.

Jaxith held up the gold token. Engraved on its surface was a crest depicting seven stylized crowns surrounding a broken globe.

"An invitation," Jaxith murmured, his lips curving into a ruthless, predatory smile. "The Apex Council isn't just targeting Aethelgard. They are hosting the global underworld summit in Monaco next week aboard the *Sovereign Leviathan*."

Elena leaned into his side, her long fingers trailing up his chest until her hand rested over his heart, feeling the powerful, dark rhythm of the Sovereign Core pulsing beneath his ribs.

"Then I suppose we need to buy two VIP tickets to Monaco, fiancé," Elena purred, her sharp eyes flashing with lethal anticipation.

Jaxith wrapped his arm firmly around her waist, pulling her flush against his broad frame as Kaelen stepped into the ruined booth to report the perimeter was secure.

"We aren't buying tickets, my queen," Jaxith whispered, leaning down to press a deep, possessive kiss against her temple. "We're going to crash their party, steal their three-billion-dollar treasury, and show the Council of Seven what happens when they cross the Shadow Sovereign."

Elena let out a dark, seductive laugh, her arms wrapping around his neck as the sirens of Aethelgard echoed in the distance, signaling the end of Arc 1 and the explosive beginning of their global conquest.
