I took a deep breath, stepped forward, and looked the hospital director right in the eye.
"That's me," I answered, my voice steady and clear.
The director understood everything at once. He looked at the terminal screen, noted the verification log, and looked at the terrified faces of his staff.
He realized that I had not been unable to pay at all. I had already paid the full surgery f*e through my account, yet the nurses had mocked me and wheeled my sick mother out into the corridor anyway.
His face darkened completely as he turned on Nurse Tinsley and Nurse Greer.
"Is this how you treat patients' families?" the director roared, his voice shaking the quiet hallway.
"Just because you think someone cannot afford treatment, you throw them out of the hospital?"
"This hospital has absolutely no need for nurses without basic decency. "
"Both of you, pack your things right now."
"Do not bother coming in tomorrow."
Nurse Greer scrambled frantically to defend herself, her voice trembling as she backed away.
"Director, please understand! We were just asking him to pay the bill. We only wheeled his mother out after the initial electronic payment failed in our system!"
The director did not hesitate for even a single second. He stepped forward and slapped Nurse Greer across the face.
The sharp sound of the slap cracked through the hallway. Nurse Greer stumbled back, holding her cheek in total shock.
"No more excuses," the director shouted, glare cutting right through her. "Get out of this building. Now."
Nurse Tinsley and Nurse Greer immediately burst into tears, begging him not to fire them.
They pleaded for their jobs, crying and making endless excuses, but the director was completely unmoved.
He pulled out his radio, called for the building security team, and had the two of them forcefully dragged down the hallway and out of the hospital.
Then, the director turned his cold gaze toward Nurse Blythe, giving her a sharp warning. "If this ever happens again, you will be joining them."
Nurse Blythe dropped to her knees right in front of me. Tears streamed down her face as she grabbed at my trousers, pleading with me for forgiveness.
"Mr. Kaelen, please! I am so sorry. I should have stopped them. Please ask the director to forgive me!"
I said absolutely nothing to her. I just stared down, my face completely expressionless.
I had begged them for just a few minutes of patience to save my mother's life, and they had chosen to push her into the corridor. She did not deserve my pity, and I would not utter a single word to save her job.
The director saw my silence and waved her off with total disgust. "Get out of my sight."
Nurse Blythe scrambled to her feet and ran away down the corridor as fast as she could.
With the hallway finally quiet, the director turned back to me.
His angry expression vanished, replaced by a look of deep respect. He offered a formal apology.
"On behalf of this hospital, Mr. Kaelen, I am deeply sorry for how our staff treated you. Our training clearly failed tonight. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the pain they caused you."
I gave him a short nod. "Just ensure my mother is taken care of."
"Of course," the director said quickly.
He turned to the remaining medical staff and gave immediate instructions.
"Move Mr. Kaelen's mother to a private ward right away. Arrange for dedicated, round-the-clock nursing care, and ensure the surgical team begins her operation without any further delays."
The doctors nodded and carefully began moving my mother's bed back into the room to prepare her for the private suite.
Just then, the elevator doors at the end of the hall opened. A bank representative walked out and approached us. He bowed deeply to me and handed me a VIP card.
"Good evening, Mr. Kaelen," the bank representative said respectfully.
"This is our bank's premium VIP card. It entitles you to a twenty percent discount at all shopping centres under the Zenith Banking Group."
I accepted the card and slipped it into my pocket.
The representative continued, keeping his head lowered.
"The ten million we transferred to the hospital is our apology for the operational error that locked your account earlier tonight. It will not be deducted from your balance. It is a corporate credit to rectify our mistake.”
I waved it off casually.
"It doesn't matter. I will cover the actual cost of my mother's surgery myself from my own card. "
"As for those extra funds, leave the ten million dollars right here in the hospital's account. Use them to help other patients who cannot afford their surgeries."
The hospital director stood nearby, and when he heard my words, his eyes widened. He was deeply moved by my choice, bowing to me again with genuine admiration.
"Thank you, Mr. Kaelen. Your generosity is truly remarkable. This fund will save many families in this city."
"She taught me to help people," I said quietly, looking toward the room where the doctors were working.
At that exact moment, my phone began to vibrate in my palm. I looked down at the screen and saw it was Linnea calling from the corporate line. I pressed the button and lifted the phone to my ear. "Speak."
"Hello, Boss," Linnea's professional voice said on the line. "I am downstairs in the parking lot. Should I come up to the ward to handle the paperwork?"
I looked at the director, who was already supervising the medical team perfectly. Everything was completely taken care of.
"No need, Linnea," I replied calmly into the receiver. "Everything has been handled here. I will come down."
"Understood, Boss. I am waiting," she said, and the line went dead.
I turned to the director, shook his hand, and thanked him for his assistance. Then, I turned around and walked toward the elevators with long, steady strides.
I left the ward behind, knowing my mother was finally safe and surrounded by the best medical care money could buy.
When I exited the hospital lobby and walked out to the main entrance, Linnea was waiting for me. She stepped forward immediately, bowing her head in respect.
"Boss," Linnea said, her tone professional. She looked at my damp, delivery uniform, which was still stained from the confrontation earlier in the evening. "Before we proceed to the corporate updates, we need to take you to the mall for new clothes."
I looked down at my jacket and nodded. "Alright."
Linnea opened the passenger door for me and continued explaining the schedule as I stepped inside.
"You will need to dress more appropriately for the auction tomorrow night, Boss. The entire event has been specially organized by high society to welcome the head of Aether Semiconductor. "
"Since you are the ultimate owner, every major family in the city will be competing to get your attention, including the Mercer family."
I sat back against the seat, a cold smile forming on my face.
Sloane and Lysander Croft had spent the entire night mocking me, thinking I was just a pathetic delivery boy holding onto a bankrupt company.
They had no idea that the mysterious billionaire they were desperately trying to meet tomorrow morning was the exact same man they had thrown out into the rain.

Sloane turned to Linnea, her face red with anger, and let out a mocking laugh."Don't act so important just because you arrived in a fancy car," she snapped. "Do you even know how much this fraud just bid? Thirty million dollars! That's more money than most companies in this city make in an entire year. What makes you think you can stand here and guarantee the bid of a broke delivery rider?"Lysander immediately stepped beside her, glaring at Linnea. His voice was filled with deep suspicion as he questioned her credentials as well."Exactly!" he said. "Who are you, anyway? For all we know, you are just a low-level actress he hired for the night to help him put on a pathetic show in front of high society!"The guests around the auction hall began whispering, and many nodded in agreement. It seemed impossible that a man who had been delivering food earlier that day could have someone so powerful backing him. Then a well-known real estate billionaire in the second row slowly rose from his

We have a limited-edition luxury watch. The starting bid is ten thousand dollars, with minimum increments of one thousand dollars.”A businessman in the second row immediately raised his paddle and bid eleven thousand dollars. Moments later, a real estate tycoon pushed it to thirteen thousand dollars. Sloane's eyes sparkled as she watched the bidding. She had always loved luxury items like this, and her gaze remained fixed on the display stage as the price climbed to fifteen thousand dollars.Lysander Croft smiled smugly and raised his paddle without hesitation."Twenty thousand dollars."His bid immediately silenced the other bidders. Without missing a beat, he turned toward me with a mocking smile."Some people can't even afford their own mother's surgery, yet they still show up at an auction just to window-shop. Pat
Chapter 8: The Buzzing of Flies
The car pulled up smoothly at the grand entrance of the city auction house. The tall pillars lined the front, and a long red carpet stretched out toward the glass doors. Linnea stepped out first, walking around to open the passenger side door for me. I stepped out, adjusting the collar of my brand-new custom suit.Right at that exact second, a sharp gasp came from a few feet away. I turned my head and saw Sloane standing near the ticket counter. Standing right beside her was Lysander Croft, who was wearing a flashy silver tuxedo and a diamond watch. They both froze, staring at my expensive clothes and the sleek corporate car behind me.Sloane’s face twisted into an immediate sneer. She walked over, her high heels clicking loudly against the pavement. "Well, look at you, Riven. I was wondering how a broke delivery boy could afford to dress like that. Did you find yourself some rich sugar mommy to keep you and buy you nice toys?"My expression turned completely cold as I looked down

She immediately bowed very low to him, her face full of respect. She turned quickly and pointed at me, eager to show she was doing her job. "Master Designer, I am so sorry for the noise. A filthy beggar wandered into our boutique looking for empty plastic bottles on the floor. I am in the middle of escorting him out of the store right now."The designer’s face darkened completely. He looked at the saleswoman, his eyes flashing with anger. "You are being utterly disrespectful."The saleswoman completely misinterpreted the designer's anger. She thought he was furious at me. She turned around and barked at me, her voice filled with nastiness. "You heard that, didn't you? Even the most famous designer in the country is cursing you out! How vulgar can you get? Get out of this store right now before we call the police!"Odette joined in right a

"Wait here for me while I go to fetch the head designer," she added, checking her phone. "This designer never works for anyone else, but he will handle your requests personally."I nodded in agreement and stood near the doorway while she went into the back offices. I waited quietly, completely aware of how my damp delivery clothes stood out, though my mind was still focused on my mother's recovery at the hospital."Riven? What on earth are you doing here?"I turned to see Odette walking out from one of the inner sections of the store. Walking right beside her was her son, Julian Me
