The afternoon heat in Manhattan was heavy, but inside the cramped, neon-lit internet cafe three blocks away from the hospital, the air felt freezing. Archer sat in the furthest corner booth, his face hidden beneath his oversized hood. The low hum of a dozen computer towers buzzed in his ears, mixed with the frantic clicking of keyboards from the teenagers playing games around him.

Archer’s eyes were fixed on the outdated monitor in front of him. On the screen, the local news loop was playing the security footage from the Diamond Club on repeat.

"The police are calling it an act of unprecedented domestic terrorism," the news anchor reported, her voice coming through Archer’s cheap headphones. "An unidentified suspect dismantled Maverick Parker’s elite security force in under three minutes. While rumors of strange physical anomalies continue to circulate among witnesses, Elite Captain Nora has officially taken over the investigation. Sources confirm she has issued an all-points bulletin for Archer Thomas, a former employee of the Parker group."

Archer leaned back in his plastic chair, his face completely expressionless. In his daytime body, his ribs still throbbed with a dull, aching reminder of the precinct beating, but his mind was entirely calm.

He moved the mouse and clicked on a hidden, encrypted chat portal. The screen flickered, and a single string of text popped up.

Alonzo: They’re hunting you like a dog, man. Nora’s team raided my apartment an hour ago. I barely got out through the fire escape. Where the hell are you?

Archer tapped the keys softly, his fingers steady.

Archer: The hospital is keeping my mother on a manual oxygen tank. It won't last past tomorrow. I don't care about Nora. I need points, Alonzo. And points come from breaking Maverick’s empire. What’s next?

A long pause followed. The typing indicator blinked repeatedly, showing Alonzo’s hesitation.

Alonzo: You're insane. You actually smashed the Diamond Club. Maverick is terrified, Archer. He’s moved himself to the Parker Estate in Upstate, surrounded by an entire army of private contractors. But if you want to hurt his wallet... there’s an underground auction happening tonight at the Blackwood Manor. Maverick’s father is selling off a confiscated shipment of high-end tech and illegal bonds. The vault there holds over five million in untraceable assets. It's heavily guarded by corporate soldiers.

Archer’s eyes narrowed as he checked the digital clock on the bottom right corner of his screen.

05:30 PM.

Thirty minutes.

Archer: Send me the blueprints and the guard rotation. I’ll be there.

Alonzo: Archer, wait! Nora knows about Blackwood Manor. She’s setting a trap, using the auction as bait because she knows whoever hit the docks wants that money. If you go there, you're walking straight into a meat grinder.

Archer didn't reply. He logged out of the secure terminal, wiped the cache memory, and pulled the power plug from the back of the tower. He stood up, shoving his hands deep into his pockets, and walked out into the cooling evening air.

05:45 PM. Outside Blackwood Manor.

The sprawling estate of Blackwood Manor sat on the dark eastern edge of the city, hidden behind towering iron gates and rows of ancient, weeping willow trees. Luxury limousines were lined up along the private driveway, dropping off wealthy buyers in tuxedos and evening gowns.

But beneath the glamour, the perimeter was locked down like a military fortress. Men in tactical vests with earpieces patrolled the stone walls, their handguns visible under their jackets.

Archer stood across the street, blending into the deep shadows of an abandoned bus stop. His body was trembling—not from fear, but from the terminal phase of the daytime restriction. His human muscles were screaming for rest, his breathing shallow as his chest constricted.

Deep inside his skull, the heavy, familiar frequency finally vibrated.

[Warning: 5 minutes remaining until sunset. Host physical condition is weak. Avoid early engagement.]

Just five minutes, Charlie, Archer thought, his teeth clenching as he watched a patrol of three guards walk past the iron gate. Just give me five minutes.

Suddenly, a black SUV pulled up smoothly at the curb right in front of the bus stop. The tinted window rolled down, and the cold, sharp profile of Elite Captain Nora appeared. She wasn't looking at him, but her tactical squad was already dismounting from the vehicle behind her, their rifles held low.

"Establish a secondary perimeter around the eastern wall," Nora ordered her sergeant, her voice cutting through the chilly air. "Maverick’s father thinks his private security is enough, but the ghost we’re tracking doesn't care about walls. If he shows up, I want him boxed in immediately. No warning shots. Shoot to disable."

"Yes, Captain!" the sergeant replied, his men moving out like silent shadows into the trees.

Archer pulled his hood even lower, his heart hammering against his cracked ribs. He could smell the exhaust fumes from Nora’s SUV. If she turned her head just three inches to the left, she would see his face under the dim streetlamp.

He leaned back against the rusted metal wall of the bus stop, his eyes tracking the red second hand of his worn wristwatch.

05:58 PM.

[Daytime restriction entering final 120 seconds...]

The aching pain in his ribs began to twist, turning from a dull throb into a burning, electric heat. The blood in his veins started to bubble, the raw pressure of the system clawing at the walls of his heart.

Nora opened her car door and stepped out, her eyes scanning the street. Her gaze paused, sweeping over the abandoned bus stop. Her instincts screamed that something was wrong. She slowly reached down, her fingers gripping the grip of her sidearm as she took a cautious step toward the shadows where Archer stood.

"Hey! You under the hood! Step out into the light where I can see your hands!" Nora barked, her voice sharp as steel.

Archer didn't move. He couldn't. His body was locked in the violent transition, his jaw clenched so hard a drop of blood trickled down his chin.

05:59 PM.

Nora drew her weapon, aiming it straight at his chest. "I said move! Now!"

[10 seconds remaining...] [5... 4... 3... 2... 1...]

The final orange sliver of the sun dropped completely beneath the distant horizon. The daylight vanished, leaving the world in total, unforgiving darkness.

Ding.

06:00 PM.

[Daytime restriction lifted completely.] [Activating Sub-Soul: Dallas.] [Host’s physical strength multiplied by 500%.] [Morality filter: DEACTIVATED.]

The air around the bus stop shattered with a sudden, violent shockwave of cold pressure. The glass panels of the shelter cracked, spiderwebbing instantly under the sheer weight of the aura.

Archer raised his head.

The terrified, weak car salesman was gone. Two burning pools of brilliant, liquid red light exploded in the darkness beneath his hood, glowing with a terrifying, unholy intensity.

Dallas had returned.

Nora gasped, her survival instincts slamming the brakes on her forward movement as she felt the sudden, suffocating weight in the air. "It's... it's you."

Dallas didn't waste a single syllable. He smiled a chilling, non-human smile that sent a shiver straight down Nora’s spine.

"Good evening, Captain," Dallas whispered, his voice a deep, hollow echo that seemed to come from the shadows themselves. "Welcome to the night shift."

With a sudden burst of speed that left nothing but a blur of red light in the air, Dallas lunged forward, bypassing Nora entirely and smashing straight through the reinforced iron gates of Blackwood Manor like a freight train. The heavy metal bars tore from their hinges, flying into the courtyard as the alarm sirens began to wail into the night.
