Lyra’s Stalking
The snow began falling shortly after sunrise. Thin flakes drifted through the mountain passes, covering tracks and softening the scars left behind by violence. Lyra moved quickly through the wilderness. Her ash cloak snapped behind her as she crossed frozen ridges and descended narrow canyon paths. She hadn't listened to Kaelen. And she hadn't stayed away. The memory of their last conversation still hurt. "You need to stay away from me.""Go back to your people." "Live." As if it were that simple. As if she could just walk away. Kaelen thought pushing her away would keep her safe. Perhaps once she would have accepted that. Not anymore. Not after everything they had survived together. Not after seeing him carry Elara through impossible odds. Not after watching him fight an entire stadium for a chance to save his sister. No. Lyra knew exactly why she was following him. Because someone had to. Someone had to stand between him and the abyss. Even if he hated her for i
The Name on the Ledger
The underground hall was silent. Broken men stood frozen around shattered stone pillars. Mercenaries who had once laughed at the sight of a lone traveler now stared at Kaelen as though Death itself had walked through their gates. Perhaps it had. The giant outpost leader dangled helplessly in Kaelen's grip. His shattered arm lay scattered across the floor in glittering fragments of frost and blood. Each breath came in ragged gasps. His face was soaked with tears. Pain had stripped away every trace of authority. He wasn't a commander anymore. He wasn't even a mercenary leader. He was simply a terrified man trying desperately to stay alive. And for the first time in days, Kaelen was getting real answers. Anthony Vey. The broker's name echoed inside his thoughts. A lead finally but something felt wrong. The hesitation. The fear. The way the leader reacted when speaking about the broker. Kaelen had seen that expression before. On the ones carrying the Contract Mark. The
The Logic of Pain
Bodies littered the broken courtyard. Some lay unconscious. Others would never stand again. The snowless stone had become stained dark with blood. At the center of the destruction stood Kaelen. His tattered cloak hung heavily from his shoulders. Drops of blood rolled from the torn fabric and splashed against the ground. His breathing remained steady, calm and controlled. The same could not be said for the surviving mercenaries. They stared from a distance. No one dared approach. No one dared speak. The stories had been true. Perhaps worse than true. The Ghost was real. And he was walking toward the heart of the outpost. Unstoppable. The massive iron doors leading into the mining complex hung partially open. Kaelen pushed through them. The ancient hinges groaned. A long corridor stretched ahead. Mana lamps flickered against rough stone walls. The underground structure extended deep into the canyon. This had once been a mining operation. Now it served another purpose. The scent
The First Slaughter
Kealan tracked the residue to an old mininig canyon. The canyon looked dead. Jagged walls of dark stone rose hundreds of feet into the sky, choking out most of the sunlight. The wind howled through the narrow passageways. Kaelen walked alone through the center of it. His tattered cloak fluttered behind him. Snow no longer followed him. The northern mountains had given way to harsher terrain dry rock, fractured earth, and abandoned mining routes carved into the bones of the canyon itself. His boots crunched against loose gravel. The sound echoed softly. Hours earlier, the residue trail from the spatial scroll had led him here. Now he knew why. The canyon wasn't natural. At least not anymore. Mana barriers were hidden among the cliffs. Observation runes sat concealed beneath layers of stone. Watchtowers blended into the terrain. And buried deep within the canyon walls sat an underground mining outpost that hadn't mined anything in years. The place had been repurposed and protected.
Severed Paths
Night fell over the Highland Village. Lanterns glowed softly behind repaired windows. Smoke drifted lazily from chimneys. Kaelen, who fought for survival of this village was disappearing. A faint crunch of snow sounded behind him. He didn't turn. He already knew who it was. Lyra. She approached cautiously. The silver-haired seer looked exhausted. Dark circles lingered beneath her eyes. She had barely slept since Elara's disappearance. Guilt had become her constant companion. She stopped several feet away. For several moments neither spoke. The mountain wind filled the silence. Finally, Lyra gathered her courage. "You were going to leave without saying goodbye." Kaelen's eyes remained fixed on the village below. "Yes." Lyra swallowed "Kaelen..." His shoulders remained still. "I can help." "No, I don't need your help." The answer came instantly. Lyra took another step forward. "We can still find her." "We?" The word echoed strangely. Kaelen finally turned. The black eye v
The General’s Debt
Marcus Vale woke to agony. His eyes snapped open. Every nerve in his body screamed. The S-Rank General immediately regretted being conscious. A rough wooden ceiling hung above him. The smell of herbs lingered in the air. Nearby, a fireplace crackled softly. A healer's cabin. The realization came slowly. Then memory returned. The village. The Void-Eaters. The masked figure. The impossible power. Marcus groaned. Something wet dripped from beneath his bandages. Mana. His wounds still leaked unstable mana from the damage caused by the Void-Eaters. The healers had managed to keep him alive. Barely. He tried sitting up. A mistake. Pain exploded through his ribs. "Don't." The voice emerged from the corner of the room. Low. Calm. Dangerous. Marcus froze. Then slowly turned his head. A figure sat near the window. Watching the snowfall outside. No mask. No cloak hood. Just a young man sitting silently in a chair. For a moment Marcus didn't recognize him. Then his heart nearly stopped.
