Rosalind was stunned. Seeing them together—and hearing Abrill casually suggest that Sean take advantage of her body—she grew suspicious. How long had they known each other for Abrill to say such a thing?

Abrill’s smile widened, eyes twinkling with wicked delight. “But he refused.”

Sighs echoed through the room. Chloe coughed awkwardly. Nate stared at her, rendered speechless.

Abrill leaned into Sean, her voice a teasing purr. “Said he respected me too much. Can you imagine? A man saying no to this?” She gestured down at herself, laughing softly.

Sean looked down at her, amused despite himself. A subtle smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

“I knew then,” Abrill continued, turning back to Nate with a victorious look, “that he wasn’t after my body or my money. Just me.” She paused, eyes glittering. “And that, Mr. Rowe, is something you clearly can’t understand.”

Nate stood frozen, mouth half-open, flushed to the ears. Rosalind’s expression was unreadable, but her grip on her clutch h

“Where do you think you’re going?” Rosalind asked as soon as Sean turned to leave. She had promised Nate that she would get Sean to apologize if he was in the wrong, and there was no way she would let him walk out like that. He was either going to show evidence that the company was actually going bankrupt or apologize.“We haven’t given you permission to leave,” Eleanor added sharply. “The meeting isn’t over yet, so sit down.”Sean turned his head to look at her and raised an eyebrow. Since when did he need permission to leave? It wasn’t like anything they were discussing had anything to do with him. He wasn’t investing, and according to them, he didn’t know anything about business anyway, so what was the point in staying?“There’s no need for me to be here,” he said calmly. “Dinner is finished, and as you all said, I’m not contributing anything valuable to the conversation. So, I’m going to leave.”At that, all of them frowned at Sean. Even Rosalind looked frustrated that he had resp

“Defamation isn’t a joke?” That was the first thing Sean thought when he heard Nate’s words. If he hadn’t read the filings himself, he would’ve thought Nate was truly clueless. His acting was that good.Sean slowly stood, facing Nate directly, unbothered by the threat.“Then sue me,” he said calmly. “But if I were you, I’d make sure the papers you file aren’t as empty as your promises.”Nate’s smirk twitched. The table fell into silence again. And this time, the tension wasn’t just between the two of them. The others were visibly pissed with Sean.Rosalind was the first to speak. Her tone wasn’t soft anymore. It was sharp.“What evidence do you even have to say something like that?” she demanded. “You’re not in the business world, Sean. You don’t run companies, you don’t sign deals, you don’t sit in boardrooms. So how the hell would you even know that Rowe & Co. is going bankrupt?”Sean didn’t react.“And telling him to sue you?” she added, her brows knitting. “What are you even think

  • CHAPTER 101

Hearing Sean mention the company going bankrupt, Nate immediately froze. He hadn’t expected Sean to say something like that out loud, and in front of everyone. For a moment, no one moved. Then Nate forced out a dry, awkward laugh. “What… what did you just say?”Sean leaned forward slightly in his chair, his eyes unwavering. “I said I’m not investing in a company that’s going bankrupt.”The second time hit harder.Rosalind’s hand paused mid-air, her glass forgotten. Julian’s brows shot up. Lilian glanced from Nate to Sean, her lips parting in shock. Even Eleanor’s confident posture faltered as her eyes darted between them.“What is he talking about?” Julian asked, confused.“Bankrupt?” Lilian echoed, her voice suddenly small.Nate stood abruptly, the chair scraping behind him. His face was red now, his eyes burning into Sean. “What the hell are you saying?! That’s a bold accusation!”Sean didn’t blink. “It’s not an accusation. It’s a fact.”“Where the hell did you hear that?” Nate dema

  • CHAPTER 100

Rosalind thought about it after hearing Nate’s words. She had to admit, the offer sounded tempting. But she had other things she wanted to use her funds for. Besides, she wasn’t the type to invest blindly without doing her investigations first.Even if they were close, mixing personal feelings with business decisions was never a good idea—and everyone knew that.“Rosalind?” Nate called, still not understanding why she was hesitating. She looked away from him and reached for a glass to pour herself some water, but he was quick. He took the jug from her and poured it before she could do it herself.“Don’t you trust me?” he asked gently, setting the jug down. “I’m offering you this opportunity because you’re important to me. I could have gone to anyone, but I told your family first because I care about you.”Rosalind blinked, her fingers curling lightly around the glass.“If you don’t want in, that’s fine,” Nate added, his tone shifting. “There are other people lined up already. But I’d

  • CHAPTER 99

Sean paused, his gaze shifting to Nate, who had just spoken. He couldn’t understand why the man had chosen that exact moment to speak right as Sean was about to leave. From what he could tell, Nate had plenty of time to talk during dinner but had chosen to wait until the end, like he’d been planning it.“You wouldn’t want to leave before I make my announcement, would you, Sean?” Nate asked. At that, all eyes in the room turned toward Sean. Feeling their gaze on him, he let out a quiet sigh and slowly sat back down.Nate cleared his throat and began. “As you know, the company my family owns—Rowe & Co. Parfumerie—”“Yes?” Julian cut in, his curiosity piqued. “Is there a big event happening at the company?”Sean’s brows lifted. All the times he’d heard Nate talk about his company, Nate had never started off like that. It felt... off. Suspicious. But Sean didn’t say anything. He just waited.“That’s no way to listen to someone!” Eleanor snapped at Julian. “Be quiet and let him speak!”Pou
