CHAPTER 1
“Ms. Springfield doesn’t want to see you. Yes, she called you here—but not to see you.”
Inside the glass-walled conference room of Ryora Global Enterprises, Chloe Vane’s sharp voice echoed coldly. Her tone was frigid, her glare even sharper.
With a groan, she shoved a thick file across the table toward the man in the grey hoodie, who sat silently like a shadow in the high-rise room.
Sean O’Connor arched a brow. “Ms. Springfield? What do you mean? She’s married,” he said, caught off guard by the sudden shift in terminology.
“Well, she wants a divorce,” Chloe said icily.
Sean blinked, stunned. The word hit harder than her referring to his wife like a stranger.
“A divorce? What the hell are you talking about?” he asked, frowning. “Miss Vane, if this is some kind of joke, it’s not funny.”
Chloe ignored him. She flipped open the document.
Sean didn’t flinch. His deep green eyes dropped to the bold letters across the top: ‘DIVORCE AGREEMENT’
“Divorce?” His voice remained calm, but disbelief laced his words. “Rosalind wants to divorce me?”
Chloe adjusted her glasses and met his gaze. “Didn’t you hear me the first time? Ms. Springfield wants a divorce. Don’t tell me you thought I was joking.”
When Sean fell silent, Chloe took that as her cue to continue.
“Listen carefully. Don’t space out,” she said coolly. “Ms. Springfield doesn’t see a future with someone so... ordinary. You two live in different worlds now. And frankly? She’s too good for you. I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner.”
“An ordinary man?” Sean echoed, almost to himself. “Is that really what she thinks I am?”
“You are an ordinary man. Or do you believe otherwise?” Chloe asked bluntly. “You run a bookstore now. Meanwhile, Ms. Springfield’s net worth just crossed $2.4 billion. You were a stepping stone. She’s evolved.”
Sean let out a soft chuckle.
She didn’t know he’d stayed up late fixing her presentation slides when she was too tired to do it herself. She never knew he paid the first rent on her startup’s office when investors pulled out. He never told her—didn’t want her to feel indebted.
Now that she was rich, she was tossing him aside like dead weight.
“I supported her all the way,” Sean said with a small, bitter smile.
“That may be true,” Chloe shrugged, “but little things like that aren’t enough for someone like Ms. Springfield. She could hire a hundred employees to do what you did—without hurting her image. She’s the face of this company now. The board won’t let her stay tied to someone who adds nothing to her brand.”
When Sean didn’t reply, Chloe’s voice sharpened.
“Whether you like it or not, Ms. Springfield isn’t the same woman you married four years ago. She’s different now.” She pointed to the billboard across the street.
A towering image of Rosalind blazed in the skyline, her face glowing beneath the soft lights—confident, composed, elegant. The caption read:
‘Rosalind Springfield: The Future of Business’
Sean stared, his jaw clenched. She was unrecognizable.
“She’s not just a businesswoman anymore, Sean. She’s a brand. People want her, need her. And she’s embraced it—even if it means leaving everything behind.”
His chest tightened. The woman he once held in his arms now seemed like a stranger, unreachable.
“Do you think she even remembers what she had with you?” Chloe’s voice softened, almost pitying. “She’s not the same. She’ll never go back. You need to understand... she’s bigger than you now.”
Sean said nothing. He had spent years protecting and supporting her, and now she was at the top—without him. What stung most was realizing she might not even remember his sacrifices.
He clenched his fists, his eyes fixed on the billboard one last time. Her ambition was evident, but the warmth he once knew was gone.
“I see,” he said quietly, tapping the table. “And she couldn’t even come here in person to ask for the divorce?”
“Ms. Springfield is preparing for her IPO launch. She doesn’t have time for personal matters.” Chloe’s tone turned businesslike. “Just sign the papers, Mr. O’Connor. You’ll get five million dollars and a condo in Uptown Manhattan. It’s generous.”
“Five million’s a lot of money…”
“Exactly!” Chloe cut in. “More than you’d ever make in a lifetime. Stop stalling. Sign the papers.”
Sean leaned back in his chair, his eyes cold. “Rosalind’s always been smart. But this time, she’s making the biggest mistake of her life.”
Chloe narrowed her eyes. “Take the offer before she changes her mind. This isn’t a negotiation.”
Sean stood slowly. “Tell Rosalind I’ll sign—if she brings the papers herself.”
Chloe opened her mouth to protest, but the door clicked open.
High heels echoed against the polished floor.
In walked Rosalind Springfield—elegant, calm, in control. Her navy-blue suit fit like destiny, accentuating her graceful form. Her face was unreadable. Confidence clung to her like a second skin. She didn’t just enter the room—she owned it.
“Sean,” she said coolly. “No need to make this harder than it has to be.”
She didn’t even look at him. Her fingers twisted the ring on her hand like it suddenly didn’t fit.
Sean noticed. She couldn’t meet his eyes.
“So where were you?” she asked Chloe as she took a seat across from him, crossing her legs. “Was he giving you trouble? Still refusing the divorce?”
Before Chloe could answer, Sean spoke.
“After everything… this is how it ends?”
Rosalind finally looked at him. Her expression was blank, indifferent. “I’m afraid so. There’s no reason for us to continue, is there?”
Sean’s brows drew together.
“I’m sure Chloe explained everything. You’ll get five million dollars and a condo in Manhattan as alimony. Or... are you not okay with that?”
A frown darkened Sean’s face. “You think I’d trade our marriage for money?”
She didn’t answer. She flipped her hair back and said flatly, “Isn’t the money enough? Fine. I’ll make it eight million.”
“Ms. Springfield!” Chloe shouted, alarmed.

The Strong-Willed Sean O'Connor CHAPTER 31
Sean made his way up the stairs, not stopping until he reached the spot where the man in black had stood. He looked down from there, as if trying to see for himself what the man had been watching. However, there was nothing unusual—nothing that caught his attention. He couldn’t figure out what the man had been looking at.Had it just been a coincidence?Sean shook his head. No, it couldn’t have been. The man from earlier didn’t look like a guest; he was dressed far too strangely for that.If that man was still inside the building, Sean needed to find him.Without hesitation, he turned and headed for the upper floor. His footsteps echoed faintly as he climbed, his eyes sweeping every corner, every hallway. The lights overhead buzzed softly, the silence growing heavier the higher he went.He checked each corridor, every open door—storage rooms, lounges, even the emergency exit. But the man was nowhere to be found. It was as if he’d vanished.Sean paused by a large window at the end of

The Strong-Willed Sean O'Connor CHAPTER 30
The gala was in full swing. Warm lights bathed the grand hall, casting a soft glow over the polished marble floors. On stage, a singer in a sparkling gown stood beneath the spotlight, her voice smooth and rich as it echoed through the room. The music blended perfectly with the clinking of glasses and the gentle murmur of conversation.Guests sat around round tables draped in white linen, gold cutlery gleaming beside fine porcelain plates. Laughter floated in the air as familiar faces exchanged greetings. A waiter passed by with a tray of hors d'oeuvres—bite-sized creations that looked almost too elegant to eat.At a table near the back, Sean picked up a glass and poured himself some juice—every other option was alcohol. Taking a sip, he scanned the room, still searching for anyone suspicious. He had already examined the waitstaff twice—every movement, every face, memorized. But something still felt off.Standing up, he stretched casually, his eyes drifting toward the staircase at the f

The Strong-Willed Sean O'Connor CHAPTER 29
Abrill leaned back in her chair, twirling a pen between her fingers as she stared at Rosalind’s photo. The office was quiet, her assistant still standing in front of her, waiting for a response.“Leave the rest of the documents here,” Abrill said finally, setting the papers aside. “I’ll go through them myself.”“Yes, Miss,” he replied, bowing slightly before exiting the room.A soft chuckle escaped her lips, followed by a wide grin. She’d known Rosalind was here for something, but she hadn’t expected her to be among those seeking a partnership with the Strouds. She flipped to the next page of the document. “I wonder which of our companies she’s interested in.”Not finding the name immediately, she turned another page—and there it was.Langdon Industries.“Isn’t that the company we just bought?” she muttered, scanning the details. Yes. Recently acquired and added to their portfolio. So the news had already gotten out?Her eyes narrowed. Springfield wasn’t a name she recognized. If she

The Strong-Willed Sean O'Connor CHAPTER 28
Just as they stepped into Ravenshade, Chloe immediately launched into a rant. She was fuming—more than anyone else in the group. Her anger felt personal, as if Abrill had spoken directly to her, even though not a word had been exchanged between them.“How dare she speak to Ms. Springfield like that?!” Chloe snapped, her voice sharp with indignation. “How dare she? Of all the guys to defend and cling to, she picks Sean?”“Yes,” Nate agreed with a sour grunt. “She’s gorgeous—hot—and she chooses to throw herself at a man like him? With those looks, she could marry into wealth. A top-tier family would snatch her up in a heartbeat. But she goes and chooses that?”Rosalind’s frown deepened. She wasn’t fond of gossip—unless it served a purpose. “Enough,” she said firmly. “Chloe, we don’t even know who’s running things tonight. There are several Strouds, and Victor might be in charge, but check anyway—just to be sure.”Chloe blinked at the sudden shift in topic but nodded. “Okay. Leave it to

The Strong-Willed Sean O'Connor CHAPTER 27
“What do you mean?” Rosalind asked at once. “Why would I be obsessed with a man like that?”Changing the direction of the conversation, Abrill peered at Rosalind. “You said he’s garbage you threw out. How can he be garbage when he’s very good at most things? How can you say that about another person?”“Oh, please, stop trying to lecture me. At least I have good taste, unlike you.”“Unlike me?” Abrill challenged. “Your standards seem too high, but your taste is terrible. Are you saying that the man next to you, Nate Rowe, is better than Sean?”Rosalind’s eyes flickered, caught off guard for a split second. “Of course, he is,” she replied, regaining her composure. “At least Nate knows how to handle a woman.”Abrill smiled faintly. “Handle? Or tolerate?” Her gaze shifted briefly to Nate, who stood stiffly beside Rosalind, his expression unreadable. “It must be exhausting to keep up appearances.”Nate’s jaw tensed, but he remained silent.Rosalind’s irritation grew. “You know nothing abou

The Strong-Willed Sean O'Connor CHAPTER 26
Rosalind was stunned. Seeing them together—and hearing Abrill casually suggest that Sean take advantage of her body—she grew suspicious. How long had they known each other for Abrill to say such a thing?Abrill’s smile widened, eyes twinkling with wicked delight. “But he refused.”Sighs echoed through the room. Chloe coughed awkwardly. Nate stared at her, rendered speechless.Abrill leaned into Sean, her voice a teasing purr. “Said he respected me too much. Can you imagine? A man saying no to this?” She gestured down at herself, laughing softly.Sean looked down at her, amused despite himself. A subtle smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.“I knew then,” Abrill continued, turning back to Nate with a victorious look, “that he wasn’t after my body or my money. Just me.” She paused, eyes glittering. “And that, Mr. Rowe, is something you clearly can’t understand.”Nate stood frozen, mouth half-open, flushed to the ears. Rosalind’s expression was unreadable, but her grip on her clutch h
