“Go have your seat, Azuma,” Mr. Frank said as Adrian made his way to the very last seat at the back and sat down.His eyes were still on Damian. It was early in the morning. The sun was already up, people were moving around and going about their daily routines, and Adrian sat alone at a corner table in a big restaurant on the edge of Ashvale’s commercial district.He wore a plain dark hoodie with the hood pulled loosely over his head, not out of necessity but out of the habit of being anonymous. To everyone else, he was simply another face in the crowd.He was currently eating a meal that would have cost him his house rent. A few days ago, he wouldn't have dared to do this, but now he was rich. Adrian stood breathing hard, his body was still trying to recover from the earlier fight with the thugs.Meters away from him was Smoke who had now fused with his summon. The green eyes glowed with pure intelligence, Smoke's intelligence.“I’m going to enjoy killing you again, boy.” a deep voice spoke from the Snake's mouth.Adrian spit out blood from his mouth and stared at the Black enormous mamba towering over him. CHAPTER 9: THE DEVIL'S DEN
Adrian pushed open the heavy steel door and walked into the warehouse, and every conversation inside stopped at once.Over thirty men turned toward the entrance. Some sat on wooden crates playing cards, while others leaned lazily against support pillars with baseball bats resting on their shoulders.A few of them cleaned knives while another absentmindedly spun a pistol around his finger. The air smelled of cigarettes, sweat, and old oil.The moment they recognized Adrian, the warehouse erupted into mocking laughter.“So that’s him?”“The dead kid?”“I expected someone bigger.”“Boss really sent all of us for one brat?”Adrian stepped fully inside and calmly scanned the space. It was currently afternoon, and the sun was shining brightly in the sky. Adrian walked through the empty street, hands in his pockets, walking without caution or any need to look behind him, but it was all a ruse.This was the side of town where abandoned industrial companies were located. A part of Ashvale had been left behind years ago. Factories had closed, workers were gone, and only the occasional scavenger or criminal still bothered to walk these streets.Outwardly, Adrian looked like any other young man taking a walk. Inside, however, every sense remained sharp. After everything that had happened, he no longer trusted these quiet streets. He already suspected that he was being followed, and to confirm he was right, the system notified him that he was being followed.
