Calvin took a long breath, trying to contain his emotions. Alana was indeed very beautiful and attractive, but she was very harsh towards him, probably because he was only her contract husband.

Calvin looked around, the sterile and cold hospital corridor did not convey the warmth he needed right now.

He felt alone, estranged from his previous life in his homeland of Barrion.

Since the war broke out between Barrion and its neighboring country, Han Xin, Calvin, and his sister fled to Hudden for a new life.

Calvin's family background and past glory were now nothing but ruins almost without a trace. Therefore, according to Calvin, whoever he and his family used to be, all of that was no longer important.

He reached into his jacket and retrieved a golden amulet.

It was his family heirloom, the most precious possession he owned.

Before his mother passed away, she entrusted the heirloom to Calvin with a solemn request to keep it safe.

Calvin stared at the golden amulet, taking a deep breath, as he contemplated whether selling it could save Lizzie.

However, he was reminded of his parents' message to always cherish it and never give it away.

Unbeknownst to Calvin, Lizzie wasn't asleep. Although her eyes were tightly shut, and her breathing sounded calm, she was still aware of her brother's presence around her.

Taking advantage of the moment when Calvin left, Lizzie carefully observed every step her brother took.

With a pounding heart, Lizzie lifted her IV pole and slowly walked towards the door. Each step was taken carefully to avoid making any suspicious noises. She pressed her ear against the door, trying to listen clearly to everything Calvin said over the phone.

Calvin's voice sounded faint but could be heard in Lizzie's ears. She listened attentively, her heart racing as she heard Calvin's plea to Alana.

Although Lizzie understood that Calvin was doing his best for her, she felt sad and guilty for causing her brother to be trapped in a difficult situation.

Every word from Calvin pierced Lizzie's heart, making her feel even more guilty for not being able to help her brother financially.

In the darkness of the quiet room, Lizzie felt alone with her worries and guilt. With a heavy heart, Lizzie returned to her bed after Calvin finished his phone call.

She lay down with a mind full of despair.

Calvin entered Lizzie's hospital room with a heavy heart. He saw his sister sleeping soundly in bed, her face calm despite her weakened body due to illness.

Calvin felt moved by his sister's condition but also felt anxious because he hadn't succeeded in getting the money for Lizzie's surgery.

Sitting on the sofa next to Lizzie's hospital bed, Calvin pondered over all the possibilities. His mind kept spinning, searching for a way out of this difficult situation. He felt trapped between despair and the burning determination to save his sister. With that thought, he fell asleep.

Calvin woke up in the morning to the sound of Lizzie's painful groans coming from her bed. Quickly, he got up from the sofa and approached his sister's hospital bed with concern.

"Lizzie, what's wrong? Are you okay?" Calvin asked in a panicked voice, trying to find out what was causing his sister's groans of pain.

Lizzie couldn't answer clearly due to the pain she felt. Her face was pale and cold sweat dripped from her forehead. She could only groan and hold her stomach, which felt painful.

"Calvin... It hurts so much..." murmured Lizzie with a voice strained by the unbearable pain.

"I'll find a nurse," said Calvin.

Without hesitation, Calvin quickly ran to the corridor to seek help from the nurses or caregivers on duty. However, when he found them and asked for help, the response he received made him even more panicked.

"Please, my sister is in a lot of pain in there! You have to help us!" Calvin exclaimed to one of the nurses with a panicked tone.

However, the nurse just shook her head casually. "Sorry, we're all very busy right now. You'll have to wait until we have time to respond, by the way, have you paid yet?" she replied indifferently, as if Lizzie's pain wasn't an urgent priority.

Lizzie groaned in pain again, trying to endure the unbearable suffering. She took a deep breath, trying to alleviate the pain that was engulfing her body. With great effort, she tried to call Calvin and give him instructions.

"Calvin... It's no use calling the nurse... In the drawer... There are pain-killers... Please get it for me..." Lizzie's words were interrupted by the unbearable pain.

Without hesitation, Calvin rushed to the drawer in the corner of the room and took the pain medication Lizzie had mentioned.

He then quickly approached his sister and gave her the medicine. In an instant, Lizzie swallowed the medicine, hoping it would alleviate the pain ravaging her body.

Both of them fell silent in tension and suffering, hoping that the medication would soon make Lizzie feel better.

However, behind the silence of the dark hospital room, they felt isolated and helpless in facing the haunting suffering.
