"Come find me after you're done, then! I can hitch a ride with you to Norris's restaurant at noon."

Mia laughed, "Your plan's off track!

I don't have a car. I usually take taxis or buses. Sometimes Alan picks me up on his motorcycle."

Caroline blurted out, "You're already a group director, and you still haven't bought a car?!"

Mia replied, "I haven't been working long, and I don't earn much.

She added, "To be honest, I think buses are convenient. And on nice days, riding Alan's motorcycle isn't bad either."

Caroline said earnestly, "You know, sometimes you need to pay attention to appearances. After all, you are the director of the group now."

As a direct partner working with Delaney, people will talk if you don't even have a car."

Alan agreed with Caroline.

His wife had always been too frugal, and she gave all her earnings to her mother. She'd been depriving herself.

The mother-in-law was even more unreliable—she had saved over $200,000 to invest in financial products but wouldn’t even spend a dime to buy her daughter a car.

Thinking of this, he decided he had to buy a car for his wife.

This way, she would have an easier time running errands and gain more prestige when negotiating business deals.

Making up his mind, he decided to visit a 4S shop early the next morning.

After the meal, the couple said goodbye to Caroline and took a taxi home together.

The next morning, Alan left early and headed to the 4S shop.

He had a $5 billion USD bank card that he hadn’t used much yet.

This time, he planned to buy Mia a high-end luxury sedan that would make a good impression.

Initially, he wanted to go all out and buy her a Rolls-Royce.

But upon reflection, he feared such an expensive car would be hard to explain to her.

Moreover, Mia had always been low-key by nature—even if she had such an expensive car, she might not be willing to drive it.

So he decided to buy her a business sedan costing around $500,000.

It would be respectable without being too flashy, and more practical.

She wouldn’t feel too (heartbroken) if it got scratched or bumped.

With this in mind, he planned to purchase an Audi A6.

Many businesspeople drove A6s these days—it carried significant prestige.

Plus, the extended-wheelbase business version was well-suited for his wife to drive.

When he arrived at the Audi 4S store, he parked his motorcycle at the entrance and stepped inside.

Seeing a customer enter, two sales guides immediately prepared to greet him,

but a woman behind them quickly said, "He came here on a motorcycle—just ignore him."

At the mention of a motorcycle, the others instantly lost interest.

It had been hot recently, and poor folks often came early to mooch off the air conditioning.

Sometimes they even had the nerve to sit in the display cars and refuse to leave, forcing security to intervene. This had become a constant annoyance for the sales staff.

Alan, riding a motorcycle and wearing knockoff clothes, indeed looked out of place here and hardly like someone who could afford an Audi. He didn’t mind being ignored.

He went straight to the A6 sedan display area and saw that the car was priced from $70,000 to $100,000.

The $100,000 model was the top-of-the-line A6 extended executive version. To be honest, it looked really good!

At $100,000, the price wasn’t too steep, and Mia should be able to accept it.

So he called out, "Is there a new stock of this top-of-the-line A6? I want to take it now!"

The sales guides looked at him like he was a fool, and one of them sneered, "Did you check the price?

Alan frowned and looked at him: "I saw it."

The man sneered: "You saw it, and you're still pretending?

Can you even afford it?

When the bill comes and I ask you to swipe your card, with so many people watching, how embarrassing would it be if you can't pay!"

Alan asked coldly: "Are you out of your mind?

How much commission do you get if you sell one of these cars?"

The other party said disdainfully: "I get a $1,000 commission!"

Alan nodded: "Good, you just lost $1,000."

With that, Alan turned and walked out.

He happened to meet the store's manager entering—the name tag on his chest read "Sales Manager."

So Alan asked him: "Are you in charge here?"

"Yes." The manager nodded: "What do you need?"

Alan pointed at the salesperson just now and said to him: "You'd better fire that salesperson. With him here, he'll only cost your 4S store business."

Upon hearing this, the man rushed over and said:  don't listen to his nonsense! This guy is crazy!

He's just a loser here to mooch off the air conditioning!"

Alan smiled: "Whether I'm a 'loser' or not, you'll find out soon enough."

With that, he immediately went out and headed straight to the BMW showroom next door.

As soon as Alan entered the BMW dealership, he laid eyes on one of the most luxurious models—the BMW 760,

the top-of-the-line version of the 7 Series and undisputedly the priciest model in BMW's lineup.

The BMW 760 features a 12-cylinder engine, delivering exceptional power, and its interior is extravagantly luxurious.

Still riled up by the Audi sales staff's snobbery, Alan thought: Those idiots at Audi looked down on me? Fine, I'll show them by buying the top-of-the-line BMW. After all, he had more than enough money to spare.

He immediately beckoned to a BMW salesperson and asked, "Can I take this 760 right away?" The young saleswoman froze in surprise: "Brother, this car just arrived in the showroom today. Are you sure you want to buy it?"

Alan nodded firmly, "Yes. Take me to process the payment."

"Wait, this car costs over $300,000!" She was completely stunned.

In her time selling cars, she'd never encountered a customer who walked in, said nothing, and immediately asked to pay.

Is this guy messing with me? she wondered.

Alan smiled, "I know the price. Just tell me—are you selling it or not?"

Of course.!

she replied eagerly, beaming. "Right this way, please!"

Moments later, under her guidance, Alan completed the purchase in one smooth process: swiping his card, making the payment, and taking delivery of the car.

When the BMW 760 worth over $300,000 was driven out, everyone in the Audi dealership was left dumbfounded.

Alan directly parked the BMW 760 at the entrance of the Audi store, opened the trunk, loaded his motorcycle into it, and then swaggered away in the car.

The salesperson who had looked down on Alan stood there gaping, while the manager beside him said coldly, "Go hand over your duties at HR—you're fired!"

The other Audi employees were also shocked silly. "My god," they thought, "no one expected the guy on the motorcycle to be so bold."

A $300,000+ car, and he just bought it on a whim!

The disdainful salesperson regretted it deeply, realizing he had not only missed a major client but also lost his job.

As Alan drove the BMW 760 away, he suddenly realized he'd acted impulsively.

It wasn't the money that bothered him—he was mainly worried about how to explain such an expensive car to Mia. Over $300,000 couldn't exactly have fallen from the sky, could it?

After thinking it over, he suddenly had a brilliant idea. He then drove to a roadside repair shop and asked the owner to replace the BMW 760 badge with that of a BMW 520.

But even when your father was a young man, foreign trade carried out by domestic entrepreneurs remained largely unchanged from the Tang and Song dynasties, lacking any sophisticated expertise. Meanwhile, Europeans and Americans had mastered cross-border finance to perfection—stocks, futures, oil, gold, private equity funds, hedge funds, venture capital; these were their core trump cards back then. While Asian nations were slaving away manufacturing goods to trade overseas and scrape together profits bit by bit, Western hedge funds flooded Asia with massive hot money, wreaking havoc everywhere. They could trigger financial crises and legally seize the fruits of an Asian country’s labor accumulated over years, even decades, sending its finance, stock market and real estate market crashing down all at once.Back then, the Field Family set their sights on exploiting major domestic clans.
