Chapter 3: Black Matte Card

“My father?” Kael looked at Vaeric in disbelief. “My father is the Primordial Overlord?”

Vaeric Solthane remained calm.

“Young master Kael, this is not something you were meant to learn this way, you don’t need to believe it yet,” he replied.

“You only need to understand that your life has changed from this moment onward, both the good way and the bad way, you get to enjoy wealth only if you want and also encounter danger only when you step in it.”

Kael stared at him for a long second, then suddenly, his expression shifted.

“So you’re telling me, that all of this power, this hidden world, this Primordial Overlord thing, there is wealth in it?”

Vaeric nodded and then raised his suit, he then brought out a particular dark card that looked beautiful and shiny

“This is the matte black card,” he said. “It contains 5.1 billion dollars. It will fund whatever lifestyle you choose from this moment onward.”

“Boom!” Kael Draven's body vibrated instantly at that moment that he nearly threw up.

“Five… point one billion?” he repeated, forcing himself not to stammer.

“Yes young master, this is the top matte black card, it's yours now.” Vaeric confirmed.

Kael at that moment couldn't believe it. He tapped his cheeks twice just to confirm he wasn't dreaming, but then it wasn't a dream but a reality.

He was just lamenting about being homeless and not getting 100k to pay for his mom's surgery, and just the next minute, he was a billionaire with more money than most of the rich families in the city, just enough to not work anymore for the rest of his life and buy any car or house he wanted.

“I also know about your mother’s condition, the hospital payment has already been completed, so the surgery will proceed immediately.”

Kael looked at Vaeric and froze completely. For a moment, he couldn’t speak or breathe properly.

His mother's surgery was paid and now he had $5.1 billion in his hand, this wasn’t luck, this was something else entirely.

“There’s one last thing your father left for you.”

“Another thing again?” Kael was surprised. “What is it?”

Vaeric reached into a briefcase and brought out a small plain box. It has no decoration and no shine, just something old and unassuming.

“This is also a gift from your father,” he said. “You may open it when you are alone or feel like.”

“Thank you…” Kael finally muttered. “I… I don’t even know what to say.”

Vaeric shook his head slightly. “Do not thank me, thank your father.”

Right after that, he turned slightly toward the door. “I am only a subordinate.”

Kael looked down at the box in his hand, then at the black card, his mind still struggling to accept reality.

“I'll drop you at the hospital and leave, you can give me a call later if you want to know anything.”

Kael nodded so Vaeric called the bodyguard and the driver before the car moved.

Soon they arrived at the hospital. “We're here now, young master, any trouble that you run into in Velmoris, just give me a call and rest assured I'll use my connections to help you solve it.”

Kael nodded and then got down from the car, he looked at the pocket sized box and then placed it inside his pocket and walked in.

The moment he entered the hallway, a lady in a white nurse uniform spotted him and quickly walked toward him, she was Nurse Reene.

Reene had a long dark hair resting softly behind her shoulders and her fair face looked tired yet beautiful. Even under the loose nurse uniform, her thick figure was still hard to hide, especially the soft curves around her waist and hips.

When she saw Kael, relief flashed across her face.

“Kael, you’re finally here, I was about to call you” she said quickly before walking closer to him.

“Good evening Reene.” Kael said with a light smile

“I was just informed that a full deposit was made for your mother's surgery,” Reene said, her eyes wide with shock and relief. “Did your wife's family actually step up that quickly?”

“My wife's family?” Kael let out a cold, bitter scoff. The memory of the stinging slap and the shattering cufflink flashed through his mind.

“No. It wasn't them, they wouldn't give me a single dime to save a life. I met with…”

He stopped halfway remembering he couldn't reveal the details.

“You met?” Reene asked

“I met with a few people who actually lent me this money, I'm actually going to pay it back, I just hope her surgery can start quickly.’

Reene nodded without thinking much. “There's nothing to worry about, the doctors have confirmed that the transplant is ready, the operation will begin very soon and it will be a success trust me.”

Kael looked at her with a smile, he only got to know Reene when his mom was admitted to the hospital, but she had shown much kindness to the extent of even donating a part of her salary to the cost of treatments.

“Thank you so much Reene, I'll pay you back big time.” Kael said. “Can I see my mom first?" He asked.

Nurse Reene nodded “Come with me.”

The two of them walked through the quiet hallway together. Very soon, Reene stopped in front of one of the ICU rooms and gently pushed the door open.

Kael’s footsteps slowed immediately after entering. His mom, Elaris Draven laid quietly on the hospital bed.

Her face looked pale and weak, even her lips were dry while soft oxygen tubes rested around her nose. Her body had become thinner than before, yet there was slight swelling around her hands and face from the illness.

Several machines surrounded the bed while the steady sound of the heart monitor echoed quietly inside the room. Reene closed the door after that.

Kael stood there silently, for a moment, he could not move. This was the woman who raised him alone, the woman who worked herself sick just to feed him growing up, but now, she looked so fragile lying there.

His eyes slowly turned red. At that moment, he suddenly remembered how years ago, when Elaris became too sick to keep working, she feared Kael would spend his whole life suffering beside her.

Through the late old master of the Voss family, she secured Kael a small job inside the villa.

Kael entered the house as nothing more than a low worker, but later, after Kael once saved the old master during a dangerous incident, the old man suddenly arranged for Lyra to marry him despite the entire family opposing it.

“Mom…” he muttered softly as he walked closer to the bed, he then carefully held her weak hand and kissed it.

“I’m sorry…” he whispered, lowering his head slightly.
