Trevor George stood at the bow of the massive white yacht, tall and well-built, his frame straight as a spear. He wore a simple military uniform, gripping a worn duffel bag in one hand. Six years on the bloodiest front lines had changed him into something sharper, colder, and far more dangerous than the heir everyone once knew.
Footsteps echoed behind him. Matt, his burly right-hand man in a crisp black suit, approached with careful respect.
“My lord, the cold is biting hard tonight, and your wounds from the last battle still haven’t healed fully. You shouldn’t be standing out here like this,” Bruce said, draping a thick black coat over Trevor’s shoulders before stepping back.
Trevor waved a hand dismissively, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “This much cold is nothing. Honestly, I even like it.”
Matt hesitated, his voice laced with worry. “I still don’t understand, my lord. Why take the risk to come here now? You’re not at full strength yet.”
“I have a fiancée waiting for me,” Trevor replied coolly, his eyes fixed on the distant dock where the city lights pierced through the snow.
The words lingered. Matt glanced sideways, curiosity winning over caution. “May I ask, my lord… why her? Out of everyone in the empire? There were so many beautiful princesses and heiresses practically fighting for your hand. The fourth princess of the Phoenix Empire proposed to you seven times. Seven. Why settle for someone from this backwater city?”
Trevor’s gaze didn’t waver. “It was my father’s last wish. He arranged this marriage with an old friend before he passed. I intend to honor it.”
Matt stayed quiet for a beat, then pressed on. “My lord, with your status, you could have picked any glamorous vacation spot for your leave. Private islands, golden palaces—anything. Why come straight here?”
Trevor gave a small, almost amused smile.
“I prefer to stay low-key. I’ve been on the frontlines for close to six years now, so the last thing I want is unnecessary attention. I just want to enjoy my leave in peace.” He replied coolly.
“Now, tell the crew to prepare for docking. I’m finally home.” Trevor ordered with a wave of his hand.
Matt gave a respectful nod. “As you wish, my lord.” He turned sharply and disappeared below deck, knowing better than to push further.
Once alone, Trevor’s expression turned ice cold. The real reason he had returned had nothing to do with peace or an arranged marriage. He was here to uncover the truth behind his father’s death.
When he was only seven years old, they told him his father died in a simple car accident. Before he could even grieve, the family banished him and shipped him off to a brutal military camp in the deadliest war zone on the continent. He fought through hell itself—wars that swallowed men whole. Only his raw strength and the guidance of his master, the Divine Sage, kept him alive and turned him into the monster he was today.
If not for that near-fatal injury in his last battle, he would still be out there, carving through enemies instead of standing on this yacht.
Trevor reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. It was old and yellowed from years of handling. He opened it carefully, staring at the elegant feminine handwriting inside.
Hardwood Manor, Moore District, K City.
This was the address of the fiancée his late father had chosen for him. Trevor read it again, his jaw tightening. He folded the paper and slipped it back into his pocket.
His eyes scanned the vast Southern Sea once more. A determined look settled on his face. This time, he would dig up every secret. Whoever was behind his father’s death, whoever sent a child to die on the frontlines—they would pay in blood.
