Now, have a feel of that breath. Don’t let it leave you. Think of it as your beloved rum… don’t let it go.

Two men could be seen opposite one another, with one in a meditating pose. The other was circling while giving pointers.

A little farther away, a man could be seen, legs crossed on a tree stump, reading a fashion magazine out of boredom. A charming woman with long black hair crossed her arms by his side as she stared at the training duo.

“So this is seriously happening… never thought that traitorous, rebelling geezer could be of use, except being a sting in the ass.”

The man reading acted like he didn’t hear, as only the magazine could satisfy him; unnecessary discussion couldn’t.

“Hmmm…”

The woman went back into the warehouse. Her previous plan was to go get the savages or discipline that scheming kid, but she had to play it safe. They weren’t sure how that monster had vanished, but they knew better than to be reckless.

“We are back!” a delighted voice chimed. The young soldier ran ahead to salute the woman. There was another that trailed behind: a middle‑aged scientist and a soldier burden—ehem, I mean, a soldier—carrying multiple containers of water.

Pant, pant***

“Are we there yet… I… can’t… ahh… I give up.” Henrik gave in under the weight of the containers, but he was careful not to topple them over, as they’d put so much into getting water and specimens for Sir Garfield’s experiment. It took a while to get the water this clean, yet they still had to disinfect it to keep the chances of mutation minimal.

“Sir Garfield, you are back. I was just going to check for you myself.” Jane nodded to the saluting Sarah before facing Garfield.

“That wouldn’t be necessary. Now that there’s enough water to quench our thirst and clean up, we should be preparing to leave for Zoru. That reminds me, have you been able to reach HQ?”

“Yes, we should be on withdrawal by air soon, so you can rest easy. It was pleasing to the Heads, who thought they had just checked our squad off as dead. Though I won’t be getting promoted anytime soon, it shouldn’t be far with the merit I gained.” Jane said, unconsciously sighing in relief. She wasn’t sure what would have happened if she failed at any moment of the mission. They couldn’t afford any slip‑ups.

“That’s good enough. Finally, some… now, where is that geezer? I never finished my chess rematch. Geez, he has beaten me so much recently, I am beginning to doubt if the losses in previous matches are illusions.” Garfield said every word with a very serious look on, plus the grimness in the tone would make one doubt their safety, yet his words were more of that of a sore loser feeling cheated.

“Hehe, over here, come.” The man with the magazine had already noticed the chatter. He waited till he felt the burning gaze of that sore loser so he could get on again, seeing the old scientist flinch before walking over with a fake smile.

“Hehehe, I am pretty old, shouldn’t you be a bit more lenient in your gameplay?” Sir Garfield joked nervously. “Ei? No seats, hmm, guess we would have to wait till we got to Zoru.”

Spotting an easy way out, the shameless scientist didn’t let it go to waste, as a triumphant smile hung on his face.

Boom!***

A resounding boom got everyone turning their heads toward the spot where One Eye and Max were training.

As it could be seen, One Eye was lying on his back with his limbs raised like a half‑dead squirrel. Brittles and wood chunks had stuck to his skin as he grimaced.

“This old man needs a break… aghh, I think I lost a rib, f*k,” One Eye cursed as he stared at his so‑called student in terror.

Max had a sheepish smile on as he scratched the back of his neck. He had just learnt how to use savage energy. He asked One Eye to teach him how to use aura, but they weren’t sure it would work, as the technique was meant to let one absorb energy from the world, then use it to enhance one’s body to be able to gain strength over time. Everything was going fine with the absorption part; as a Primal‑level expert, both One Eye and Max could absorb energy, but Max was a weird case, as he was used to using mimic aura to battle. But now that he couldn’t—since he needed to conserve it for his Purple Ravine [previously Golden Ravine, but the color was denoted to purple after it was mimic‑ized] and Goo, whom he couldn’t unsummon—things were different.

His mimic pouch absorbs energy from objects around, including living and non‑living, but in minimal quantity, which was only enough to keep Goo around for a day.

So he had One Eye to thank for his help, but what he didn’t understand was why things turned out like this. He had used aura like how he used mimic energy, but something seemed to be wrong. The level of demolition wasn’t fit for a mere D‑rank.

One Eye got on his feet after using aura to blow out the brittles in his skin by tightening his skin. A sick expression on his face—how can this kid not be a headache? At least he was sure he held back during the shake at the temporary camp to let their guard down, making it easy to claim a weakness report after they absconded. Every merc uses it to escape unreasonable life threats. Yet to think Max was this strong… the level of growth was unreasonable.

“Cough, remember how you asked me to teach you aura control, and I said you owed me a favor? Well, my good friend…” One Eye smiled cringingly, so much that it made Max’s ass tighten, and even Lorne and Garfield were about to step up to save him from this unreasonable trade. Couldn’tt let such a prodigy be shamed like that…?

Gulping, Max awaited the next words to ascertain his fate… shittt, to think this guy had such fvked fantasies… that explains the one eye… eh, could it be he has been doing it with those mercenaries…? Turning to Marc, who was napping atop a tree… Max tried to picture Marc and One Eye… Marc suddenly felt hot all of a sudden.

‘What could this bastard be thinking, staring at me like that?’ Marc thought as Max broke contact.

What am I even thinking? It can’t be that bad…

But seeing One Eye step closer with measured steps—

Then…

Putong!**

“This student is ready to learn…” A shameless one-eyed man begged a young man with fake puppy eyes.

ffssh..... bam!!**

An object fell from a tree, and Marc toppled off the tree, his face smashing into animal dung that nobody seemed to notice till now.

“Ah shii…utt.”

[Aura is a common term for energy used in all paths]

“Is that the last one?” Jane said to the secretary, who was tidying up the papers on the table. Those I could trust, as they would focus more on missions outside the base,” Jane said out loud, though she didn’t seem to be talking to anyone. She had chosen individuals known for their resourcefulness and who had proven their loyalty through past missions. Each had unique qualities: a strategist who could outsmart adversaries, a medic who excelled in high-pressure situations, and a technician with unrivalled skills in hacking and engineering, making them indispensable for missions beyond base bor

A shadowy man appeared before the tavern’s entrance and pushed the door open. Inside, the place was packed with rowdy mercenaries and scrawny merchants. He wrinkled his nose, his face creasing."The stench of wild men and deadly wine…" He inhaled a little more until a satisfied expression settled on his face. "One feels alive in the midst of mortals, right?"The question didn’t seem directed at anyone but himself."Boss, we got your message. As of now, orders are already being sent out to begin the first phase," a lackey said, handing a mug to the man whose face seemed to treat shadows like clothing."How efficient. Now go get the papers I asked you to print."The shadowy man sat at a free table while the lackey stood by his side, not daring to look him in the eye, much less think of sharing a seat with him."Yes, Your Highness." The lackey immediately ran behind the counter to fetch them.A hefty, chubby mercenary walked up to the bar and slammed his mug down."More of those fiery co
