god or monster II

A flaming shadow struck it on the back of its skull, slamming it to the ground.

BAM**

Jane snapped her head toward the direction the shot had come from—and there was Max, in a strong suit the goo had transformed into, it's easy to tell because items that goo transforms into are always purple, tainted with glow.

It made Max look like a mecha, but it only covered his upper body, helping him carry the cannon more easily. From her angle, she saw him give her a two‑finger gesture: from his eyes to the sky.

Something was up there.

Not sure she understood the signal, so he yelled, “Heads up!”

By now, the monster was already using its wings to gain height, but they had prepared for this. As for that preparation: a man in a torn vest was already in a smashing stance, both arms raised, all his body weight about to come crashing down.

The unmistakable blue veins, like lightning strands, appeared whenever he used his ultimate. Paired with that signature eyepatch, it made it easy for Jane to recognize him anywhere.

“Is that… One‑Eye? Since when did ..He got stronger?”

His blow drove the monster back, each hit landing while Max gave periodic sniper shots. The creature was finally beginning to feel threatened.

“Humans… dre… god… humans die… whe… back!” the monster tried to speak, its cracked voice like stone scraping against blades.

It tried to fly off, but Max was faster. He made the goo shapeshift into a lasso that snapped around the monster’s feet, stopping it from fleeing. Seeing it had nowhere to go, the beast tugged harder and harder, but soon Max pulled it down, smashing it into the ground in a fountain of dust. Jane retreated from the shockwave. A deep dent formed where the monster hit, and it let out a guttural grunt.

One‑Eye immediately pinned it down, laughing maniacally. “Hey, your chance, boy! Oooh, give it a clean shot!”

Max immediately aimed for the head—but when he tried to switch his gun to cannon mode, he suddenly felt drained. His pouch coughed like something dying of thirst.

“So that’s what happens when I run out of mimic energy?” he muttered to himself.

Realizing this, he quickly dismissed his gun. He could only use it when there was enough energy. He wasn’t sure what would happen if his pouch ever ran completely dry—whether it would slowly recover, or simply cease to exist. Either option could spell doom for him, especially in a world like this.

Not wasting any more time, he gave in to the pull coming from the other end of the lasso, letting it yank him into the air. One eye had to suffer for it as he sumo slammed ahead of time, he couldnt care too much now. A punch was already flying toward his face, but he welcomed it with a punch of his own.

The lasso dissolved mid‑flight as the goo hardened into knuckles around Max’s fists. Thorned chains coiled from both knuckles.

After absorbing the nest monster, the goo had evolved due to the inside of the monster owning memories of its victims. Back at the lab, when it devoured the mutant, it had also absorbed memories full of all kinds of weapons and tools, letting it shift into anything as long as it had the “blueprint.” But it couldn’t invent anything new or copy what it hadn’t seen.

These knuckles belonged to some underdog Chinese fighter named Su, from The Pit—a forbidden, illegal death‑match arena where it was kill or be killed. Su’s favorites were these very knuckles: the thorned chains bit into a target’s flesh and refused to let go, allowing a constant barrage of pain with every punch and every retraction.

Max started hammering away like a madman, the knuckles seeming to mimic the intent in Su’s memories. It was as if they were teaching him the fighting patterns of an undim and the four-eyed, which now had two blinded, began shadow dancing, he got kicked on his chin before the tempo threw him a monstrous hand grgripped him as webs purt from beneath his anus.

"shitt!!*" Max cursed beneath his breath,s he was already short of air, it was hard doinga complex maneuvre so he threw his head back and let gravity do its magic seeinthrough max pattern to break the combo chain. Themonster stuck its spider legs behind and slanted the web. Now, Max was cornered either way; the web would catch up, and it's game over. The monster already had a triumphant smirk on, mortals weren't smart after alll merelivestockk it thought, letting its guard down. Max grabbed this chance, or more precisely, its head,d and smashed it with  his head, making it stagger

"Yes...my chance!"

A powerful kick followed—a bone‑shaking crack echoed as the beast was launched over ten meters before it finally crashed into a new crater.

By now, everyone had recovered from the web trap from the ceiling, so they all witnessed it—including Jane.

She turned to Lorne, but his face showed no surprise, only a clear scowl.

“Hey, kiddo, next time let the thorn chains have a chance to grip the target properly. It’s easier to make the wounds escalate. I don’t want you shaming Magnus like that. Hmph… Gen Z. How lame.”

Everyone gaped at Lorne’s words. Sarah even added, “Why am I even surprised? This old geezer literally let himself get caught just to keep the monster from ending anyone’s life on his watch… Luckily, the monster was a patient one.”

Max felt at a loss, then laughed. “Yes, yes, geezer… I’ll remember next time. So how do you do—oh, wait, I need to check out the carcass first.” He waved as he walked toward the crater, where he found One‑Eye crouching.

Max pulled him up with one arm.

“Ahh, thanks. This old man is grateful. So, how’s the so‑called ‘god’? You checked it yet?” One‑Eye asked, his single eye trimmed with a chuckle—only to break into a harsh cough, blood flecking his lips.

“Easy, old man. We’ll go check it out…”

“Ever ready, boy,” he smirked, limping forward with Max’s support.

The goo bobbed behind them, hanging off Max’s other shoulder like a slug‑pet, also eager to see what lay behind the smoke and dust.

A deep crater had formed—about three meters deep—filled with broken spider limbs and a clipped wing. But…

“Where did that beast go…?”
