ATHENA’S POV

I thought of going to Nesse’s house after leaving the Organization that morning, but I changed my mind and went to her company instead.

Even though Lord Dante already promoted me to her bodyguard, she would need to be informed.

The last thing I wanted to do was to force her hands on anything, even though Nesse was far from a woman that could be forced.

Also, judging by what the time was saying, she would already be at the company, but when I got there, I noticed Nesse’s absence almost immediately, which came as a shock to me.

Nesse would never be late.

Or was she also taking the day off?

Nesse could manage one day off, but another day, she would go mad. She loved to work. The company was her life, and besides, she would be too worried about what the press would say about her if she skipped coming to work two days in a row.

“Good morning,” I greeted her head of security.

“Good morning, Athena,” he responded.

“Nesse isn’t here,” I noted.

He stared at me, a little surprised

  • Cruel Daughter, Crueler Mother

ATHENA’S POVWe arrived at Nesse’s house and Jules was dragged into her house like a poor criminal. The woman might have done wrong by Nesse, but my heart went out to her.I couldn’t believe that anyone would treat their mother the way Nesse was treating hers.“Keep her in the isolated room until further instructions,” Nesse commanded her staff.“This is wrong, Nesse!” Jules called out as they dragged her away mercilessly.“Unfortunately for you, no one can punish me for it,” Nesse said coyly. She was so cold and cruel. After their argument at the hospital, Jules had had no choice but to stay back even though she didn’t want to.Then, when it was evening and nearly dark, the doctor had come in, checked Nesse, and declared her fit to leave. I had thought that she would have handled things nicely, but I was wrong.Even Nesse’s state of being pregnant didn’t make her act with emotions. She had arranged for her bodyguards to have Jules taken into her car with discretion. Fortunately for h

  • Hostage

NESSE’S POVI could see and feel the shock on my mum’s face, but I didn’t care.“You don’t mean what you just said,” she said in utter shock and disbelief.“You heard me right, mum,” I said with a deliberate sneer.“You can’t lock me up in here!” She lashed out.I smiled ruefully.Again, I couldn’t be more thankful for Athena’s competence and swift reaction. When I saw that my mum was leaving, and I knew just what she was capable of doing the moment she stepped out through that door, I knew that things needed to be handled in my own way.I had signaled to Athena without having to say a word. She had understood and swung into action.I was pained and enraged that she had found out. She was the last person I wanted to ever find out, especially judging by what was going on between us lately, but now that she had, I could only manage the situation in my own way.“I am not locking you up, mum,” I said, deliberately sounding sarcastic when I mentioned the name “mum.”“Then what is this abou

  • What I Know Now

JULES’S POVNesse didn’t respond to my question, but I knew what I saw.She was pregnant.Since I asked that question, she hadn’t said a single word. Instead, she had covered her stomach with the sheets, and I knew that the sheets had only fallen below her stomach slightly by mistake, otherwise I wouldn’t have known.I birthed Nesse.I would know if she was pregnant, and from what I saw, she was.The swell was very small, almost unnoticeable it would be for a stranger, but my eyes caught it instantly, and maybe that was because I was Nesse’s mother.“You are pregnant,” I said with confirmation. This wasn’t a question anymore. If Nesse wasn’t, she wouldn’t have been this quiet. She might be the toughest woman in the entire city, but she was my daughter, and I knew her like the back of my palm. No one ever thought that Nesse had a weakness, but I did, and it was surprising that in the time of desperation, I hadn’t used it against her.Oh, she should really be glad.“I am not,” Nesse den

  • Only Be Prepared

“I want to meet the Seer again,” I told Blake as I prepared to leave.“If you trust his judgment, Lord Dante,” he responded, making me stop.“You don’t?” I asked.I recalled instantly that Hades had been like that too, and quite honestly, I wasn’t sure I could deal with someone close to me who didn’t believe in the Seer as much as I did.He might not exactly have been giving me useful information lately, but one thing was certain; he had been useful to me when I couldn’t even reveal my identity to anyone or let any of the Titans know that I was alive except Hades.“That’s not what I meant,” Blake said.“What did you mean?” I asked him.“All I am saying is that if you trust his judgment, then you should go to him. We the Titans in this Organization are trusting in you,” he said deeply. That was soothing. At least, he wasn’t acting like Hades.“Alright,” I said.“Do you want me to come with you?” Blake asked and I shook my head.I shook it too quickly that it made Blake feel a certain t

  • Enemies And Friends

HADES’ POVGivan and Norman followed me back to the Structure obediently and meekly. After watching in horror the swift and cruel death of the third Titan, they knew that there wasn’t any way out. Even though they had both initially agreed to come with me, after that incident, the fear had been instilled in them, and they knew that if they as much as posed any slight resistance, they would end up like the dead Titan. We also left his body right there to rot.Syron was waiting at the gate when we arrived.“These are Titans, aren’t they?” He dragged me to the side and asked.“Yes, they are,” I responded.“Why have you brought the Titans to our cave?” He asked worriedly. “You know that we are like oil and water; we don’t mix,” he reminded me.“But I stayed in their camp for years, Syron,” I responded.“That is different,” he said.“How so?” I asked, cocking one of my brows.“You were there on a mission,” Syron answered.“And so are they,” I said, referring to Givan and Norman.“But look

  • Barged In

NESSE’S POVAs much as I wanted to tell Athena to leave, or even call the cops on her, for the very first time, I had to surrender, but I didn’t do it in a way that made it seem like I was surrendering.“The only reason you are getting away with this is because of this damn condition I am in,” I had told her.Again, until I found whoever was responsible for that attack, I might need an extra hand, and more than that, I didn’t want to keep collapsing in public.I dozed off against my wish. I guessed the exhaustion had gotten hold of me and I wasn’t able to control it, and when I woke up, Athena was still right there.“Don’t you take a break?” I asked her with a sneer. “I don’t want anyone hovering around me,” I added tightly.“Which is why I am giving you a little distance,” Athena responded.I opened my mouth to ask her to leave my ward, or maybe even send her on a pointless errand, just to get her away from me, but I changed my mind, and for good reason.“How bad is the scandal?” I
