Diana frowned, taking a sharp step forward, her heels clicking loudly.

"Are you insane? Remove us? For this furniture? He doesn't even have a dollar to his name! He's a deadbeat who let our daughter—"

"Silence!" Dr. Harrison roared, his chest heaving as he stared at his tablet

The system-override from New York was flashing in bright red text: IMMEDIATE CLEARANCE. TRUST OWNER ON SITE. He looked back at Diana, his voice trembling with sheer, professional terror.

"You are actively harassing the primary beneficiary of the entire medical trust!

"What?!" Gloria shrieked as the two towering guards stepped forward, their massive hands clamping onto her designer coat shoulders.

"Take your filthy hands off me! Do you know how much this Chanel suit costs? Diana! Call Marcus! Call the police!"

"Let go of my mother!" Diana gasped, her face turning a violent shade of crimson as the guards ruthlessly slammed her arms behind her back, wheeling her toward the corridor.

"Liam! What did you do?! Where did you get this fake setup?!"

Liam lay perfectly still against the pillows, his good charcoal-grey eye tracking them with an absolute, terrifying coldness.

"You're trash!" Gloria screamed, her voice cracking into a shrill, hysterical pitch as she was dragged out backward. "You're a penniless curse! You cheated! You—"

The guards didn't let her finish. They ruthlessly shoved both women out into the main public corridor.

The hallway was packed with visiting families, local doctors, and a handful of lifestyle reporters who had been lurking around the hospital lobby tracking Marcus Quinn's car. The moment the heavy doors flew open, every single head turned. Gloria Vane was actively flailing, her manicured nails clawing at the air, while Diana's designer glasses slipped off her face, shattering instantly on the linoleum flooring.

"Look at them!" a bystander whispered loudly. "Isn't that the Vane Realty matriarch?"

"They're being thrown out like common street thieves!" a reporter muttered, a camera shutter clicking rapidly.

"Get those cameras away from me!" Gloria howled, her face turning a ghostly, humiliated white as she covered her face with her leather clutch. She had spent twenty years building her elite reputation, and in ten seconds, it was dismantled in front of the entire district.

Inside the room, the heavy door slammed shut, sealing out the noise. Daniel let out a long, disbelieving breath, staring at Liam with wide eyes.

"Liam... the Director just said... the trust belongs to you?"

"Get me a pen and paper, Daniel," Liam rasped, his voice dropping into that freezing register, completely ignoring the victory. "Now."

------------------------------

The night nurse brought two sheets of stationery and a blue ballpoint. Liam propped himself up against the pillows, his cracked ribs screaming in agony, but his hand remained entirely steady as he pressed the pen to the paper.

He was not an artist. But he had been conscious for three minutes on that freezing pavement, and in those three minutes, he had seen a pair of unforgettable amber-hazel eyes. He needed to lock them onto the paper before his exhausted brain let the details soften.

He sketched the sharp line of her jaw, the dark coat pulled tight, and the fierce, brilliant clarity in her gaze. He folded the sheet carefully and handed it to Daniel.

"Take this," Liam murmured.

Daniel took the paper, unfolding it slowly. His eyes widened. "The woman from the alley? Serena?"

"If you ever see her in public, you'll know her by those eyes," Liam said, his voice tightening. "Keep it safe. Now go to the mansion. Get my passport and my clothes from the servant quarters while Diana is running to Marcus's office to cry."

"I'm on it, brother," Daniel said fiercely, tucking the sketch into his chest pocket. "I'll meet you at the municipal cemetery in two hours. Don't move until I get back."

------------------------------

The municipal cemetery was quiet, flat, and wide open under the grey morning light. Liam walked the muddy path entirely alone, his ribs tightly strapped beneath his clean clothes, his left eye still heavily bruised. Daniel waited silently by the iron gates, holding the battered duffel bag containing Liam's passport and old documents.

Liam stopped at the edge of the tiny, forgotten plot of earth.

The sunflowers he had placed yesterday had already started to turn soft and papery at the edges, their vibrant yellow going dark against the turned mud.

He slowly crouched down, placing one trembling hand on his knee to ease the sharp ache in his chest.

"I have to go, baby," Liam whispered into the cold wind, his charcoal eyes fixed on the small mound of earth.

"I don't fully understand what's waiting for me in New York. I don't know who this grandfather was, or why he hid me in your mother's poverty for three years. But I have to leave."

The trees rustled above him, completely indifferent to his grief.

"They called you genetic garbage, Lily," Liam choked out, his knuckles turning white as he pressed his fingers into the wet dirt. "

He stood up slowly, his spine turning to absolute iron, a strange, unearthly aura of dark dominance completely masking his shoulders.

"But I am coming back. And when my boots touch this city again, I will own the very ground they stand on. I will make them kneel before your name, my sweet angel. Every bit of what's left of me... is for you."

He turned on his heel and walked firmly back toward the cemetery gates, never looking back.

Daniel drove the truck toward the regional airport terminal in absolute silence. The city streets moved past the windows in a blur. When they pulled up to the curb of the private tarmac entrance, Daniel cut the engine, grabbed Liam's duffel bag from the back seat, and stood flat on the pavement.

They looked at each other. There was far too much to say, and both of them knew a noisy drop-off zone was not the place for it.

Daniel suddenly reached out, pulling Liam into a fierce, loyal embrace, careful of his fractured ribs.

"Call me the second you land in New York, Liam. I don't care what time it is."

"I will," Liam rasped. "Take care of the plot, Daniel."

"She's my daughter too, brother" Daniel said, his voice thick as he shoved his hands deep into his jacket pockets. "Please be careful"

Liam picked up his bag, turned around, and walked through the heavy glass doors of the terminal. He pulled out his cracked phone, found the unlisted New York area code for Gerald Holt, and pressed dial. It only rang once.

"Mr. Cross," Gerald’s voice boomed through the speaker line, radiating an intense, overwhelming authority.

"Your security clearance is cleared. Are you ready to cross the threshold ?"

Liam was about to answer when a loud, frantic commotion erupted behind him at the security checkpoint.

"Stop that man! He's a fugitive! He stole from our family!"

Liam turned his head slowly. Sprinting through the terminal doors, flanked by four airport police officers, was Marcus Quinn, his face twisted in absolute fury, alongside a breathless, panicked Diana. Marcus pointed a shaking finger directly at Liam's back.

"Arrest him!" Diana shrieked, her voice echoing across the entire terminal. "He's running away with our family secrets!"

The four officers drew their tasers, rushing straight toward Liam.

  • Last Warning

Diana marched in first, her high heels clicking aggressively against the linoleum flooring, while Gloria followed closely behind, her face heavily contoured and a smug, venomous smirk resting on her lips. We came to see this cripple lying down motionless over there"She stopped right at the foot of the bed, her sharp brown eyes raking over Liam’s swollen face, closed eye, and tightly wrapped torso with pure, unadulterated disgust."Look at you," Gloria sneered, a condescending laugh slipping through her lips”. • The Only Way Out

The ceiling was white. That was the very first thing Liam registered—a flat, bleached white ceiling with a single fluorescent light strip running down its center. Then the smell hit him. It was a suffocating wave of strong antiseptic and clean industrial linen. He knew exactly where he was before he even fully managed to open his eyes.He tried to shift his weight on the mattress, and his fractured ribs immediately reminded him why that was a terrible idea."Ah..." Liam gasped, a sharp blade of pain ripping through his chest. He exhaled a ragged breath slowly, waiting for the worst of the blinding agony to pass. His left eye was swollen almost entirely shut, and his left shoulder felt as if someone had driven a rusted nail straight through the joint and left it there. He lay perfectly still, staring blankly up as his mind struggled to catch up to his broken body. • Absolute Rock Bottom

The heavy scent of stale beer and cheap tobacco filled the dim air of the dive bar. Liam Cross sat in the darkest corner table, his bruised hands shaking as he clutched a glass of straight whiskey. He had nowhere left to go. Lily was no longer at the mortuary; her tiny body was resting beneath the cold dirt. He couldn't go to Daniel's house either—Daniel's parents were lifelong friends of the Vanes, and staying there would only force his brother into a brutal family conflict. He was completely alone. He needed to erase the world."Give me another one," Liam muttered, slamming the empty glass onto the sticky wooden table. The bartender didn't even look up from wiping the counter. "You got cash for another round, trash? I know who you are. You're that deadbeat the Vane family just kicked into the gutter. No credit here."Liam reached into his pocket and threw down a crumpled twenty-dollar bill—part of the money Daniel had desperately given him. "Keep pouring. Just make the room stop sp

  • A silent farewell

For five days, Liam Cross lived among the dead. He didn't have a single dollar left for a motel room, nor did he have the spirit to seek shelter. Instead, he curled up on the hard plastic chairs in the waiting room of the city mortuary, a ghost haunting the corridors where his daughter’s icy body was kept. Every few hours, he would stand outside the glass partition of the basement, his bloodshot eyes staring into the sterile dark. He didn't eat. He barely drank. Daniel had found him there on the third night, throwing a thick blanket over his shivering shoulders and forcing a hot cup of coffee into his numb hands. "Take this, Liam," Daniel had choked out, his voice cracking as he slipped a worn envelope stuffed with crumpled bills into Liam's jacket pocket. "It’s only eight hundred dollars. I cleared out my secondary checking account. It’s all I have left after the hospital loan, brother. Use it to find a proper burial plot for our sweet angel." Liam hadn't spoken. He had simply
