"Thanks for your patronage, we hope your wife likes it." A lady smiled as she gave a handsome young man in his early twenties a small red box.

"I'm not married yet," The young man smiled embarrassed as he collected the box from the lady.

"Oh, I'm sorry, or perhaps you're giving it to your girlfriend." The lady apologized as she continued.

"Yes, I want to propose to her today," The young man nodded with a smile.

"I wish I could have been there to support you." The lady smiled.

The young man nodded with a smile and walked out of the store hurriedly, got an old bike which was parked just right outside the store, and drove away whistling.

Soon, he went to an apartment and parked his bike; Jasper frowned as he looked around, wondering where the luxurious car parked beside his apartment came from.

"Hey stop there!" A hoarse voice came just as Jasper was about to walk into his apartment.

"What's wrong?" Jasper frowned, looking at the two bulky men who stood guard in front of the door.

"You can't go in." One of the men said.

"Can't go in?" Jasper replied, looking confused.

"Yes, you can't go in."  The man replied.

"But this is my apartment, not someone else's." Jasper continued, confusion written on his face.

"We don't care about that; all we have to do is stop you from entering; our boss ordered us not to allow anyone in." The man sneered.

"And how's that my business?" Jasper frowned.

"You should get the heck out of my face and let me in." Jasper snapped.

"We are sorry, but we can't do that." The men shook their heads and showed no sign of moving.

"Get the heck out of my way!" Jasper roared as he rushed towards the two men, not caring about anything else.

"Who the heck is shouting so loudly? Don't you know not to disturb me?" An angry voice came as the door of the apartment was swung open, revealing a man bare-chested.

"Who the heck are you, and what the heck are you doing at my apartment?" Jasper roared at the man.

"Baby, who's that yelling?" A feminine voice came as a figure walked out of the inner room toward the door in slightly scanty clothes.

"Amelia...." Jasper froze as he shuttered, seeing the figure.

"Oh Jasper, it's you," Amelia said plainly as she looked at Jasper, the disgust in her eyes was evident.

"What..what is..is he doing here?" Jasper shuttered as he pointed at the man.

"Don't tell me it's what I'm thinking...."

"What kind of dumb question are you asking?" Amelia snapped.

"What would a man and a woman be doing all alone inside a room? Staring at themselves? Or what the heck do you expect?"

"But...but I...I thought we loved each other, and you promised never to leave me..." Jasper stuttered, his eyes red.

"Hmph!" Amelia sneered.

"Do you think I have all year to waste? What have you ever got for me? You can't even afford to get me a set of jewelry, or even the bags and clothes I wanted, and yet you want me to stay with you?"

"You must be high right from the start; that's why you dared to think of such," Amelia snapped.

"But, I tried my best, I did all I could to make you happy...." Jasper shuttered as his voice cracked.

"Did you do the best you could?" Amelia laughed, "I'm sorry, but I didn't see that."

"Are you going to do this, Amelia?" Jasper looked at Amelia, as the last glimpse of hope in his heart flickered.

For the past two years, he had engaged in all sorts of odd jobs just to satisfy her. Working tirelessly so that he would satisfy her.

"I'm sorry, but you've been living in a fantasy world all this while, it's time for you to come back to the real world." Amelia sneered.

At that moment, Jasper felt the last flicker of hope in his heart extinguished after hearing what Amelia said.

"Boy, you've been unlucky; your girl tastes delicious; I bet you've never had a taste of her, right?" The man by Amelia's side suddenly grinned as he grabbed Amelia closer and performed some obscene act on her.

"Amelia..."

"Don't even ask," Amelia interrupted Jasper coldly.

"But..." Jasper shuttered, not knowing what to say. For the past two years, Amelia had told him that she wanted to wait till marriage.

As the gentleman he was, he decided to respect her decision, but then it turned out that he was being made a fool of. She was never pure in the first place.

He had been swimming in an ocean of lies, believing his future wife was pure and was just waiting for him. It seemed like he had been made a fool after all the efforts he had put into nurturing everything.

"Boy, you don't deserve to have someone as beautiful as her, you're not worthy of her." The man sneered.

"You...." Jasper gritted his teeth as he looked at the man.

"What are you going to do, huh?" The man sneered as he looked at Jasper with a smirk.

"I'll kill you..." Jasper suddenly lost it all and rushed toward the man.

Immediately, the two bulky men stepped forward and dragged Jasper back, holding him firmly.

"Break his limbs and throw him out onto the streets," the man ordered, closing the door.

The next moment, Jasper's screams were heard as the men beat him up mercilessly before proceeding to break his limbs.

After making sure he was in a half-death situation, the two men then proceeded to throw him out onto the streets.

At this moment, Jasper was in a miserable state as his consciousness flickered. Before he could lose consciousness, he heard a voice in his head.

"Ding!"

"Conditions for Activating System met."

"Error in Activating System."

"Commencing automatic recovery. The host should hold on."

A series of voices rang in his head, and the next moment, he felt the pain in his body stimulated and, before long, lost consciousness.

  • The system

The System completed its sweep quietly, feeding Jasper the results in fragments he could digest without noise. The hidden buyer was no ordinary operative. Not purely corporate, not purely political, but a careful mix of both. Jasper traced the patterns, the financial networks, the soft influence, the public-facing philanthropy. The man was a senior board member of a multinational tech conglomerate. His name rarely appeared in scandal. His face was clean in every photo, every press release. Privately, he held advisory roles, quietly lobbied politicians, and maintained access no law could strip away. Yet behind that public image, he financed destabilization, acquisitions, and manipulations. The mob boss had been muscle, disposable, nothing more.Jasper sat back against the cold wall of the cell, hands resting on his thighs. He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. The System displayed the maps, the connections, the shadow accounts, all flowing into the same hidden network.A quiet alert foll

  • Rumors

The failure of the prison raid rippled through the criminal underground faster than the mob boss could anticipate. Rumors traveled along encrypted channels, whispered by low-level operatives and repeated in hushed tones at safe houses. In those corridors, uncertainty bred panic. The strike squad’s disappearance was no accident. Someone stronger than expected was moving in the shadows—and worse, someone was watching.Jasper remained seated on the edge of his bunk, hands clasped loosely, eyes fixed on the gray wall across from him. The System continued its work in silence, parsing the fragmented communications flowing through proxy networks, filtering what was relevant and discarding the rest.A soft alert chimed.Intercepted Transmission Detected.Jasper didn’t flinch. He had learned early how to separate signal from noise. The fragments coalesced slowly into a pattern. The mob boss appeared to be issuing the orders, commanding from a reinforced safe house in an undisclosed location. P

  • No noise

The holding facility sat quiet in the early hours of the night, the kind of quiet that felt manufactured. Lights hummed overhead, steady and white, washing the concrete corridors in sterile calm. Guards moved along their routes with routine precision, boots echoing softly, radios clipped and silent.Jasper remained unaware of any of it.His cell was narrow but clean. Concrete walls, steel bars, a single bunk bolted to the floor. He sat on the edge of it, elbows resting on his knees, head slightly lowered. The faint hum of electricity seeped through the walls. Somewhere far above, ventilation fans turned without urgency. He hadn’t slept.Custody had a way of stretching time. Minutes dragged. Hours folded into one another until the concept of night and morning blurred. Jasper’s wrists still bore faint red marks where the cuffs had been. They had been removed hours ago, but the sensation lingered. He exhaled slowly, steadying his breathing. They hadn’t questioned him yet. That bothered h

Zoey sat on the edge of her bed, hands clasped so tightly her fingers hurt. Her room was quiet. Too quiet. The door was shut. The curtains were half drawn. The city lights outside barely pushed through the fabric, leaving the room dim and still. She stared at the floor. Then she closed her eyes.“Please,” she whispered. Her voice cracked.“Just bring him back.”She pressed her hands together harder, knuckles whitening. She wasn’t sure who she was praying to anymore. • Andriod

Jasper stayed still for a long time after the System prompt appeared. The cell was silent except for the low hum of the security field. White walls. No windows. No sound from outside. Just him and the words floating in his vision.Mission available.Accept or decline. He exhaled slowly.“So this is how it works now,” he said quietly. The System did not respond. He thought about the trial. The charges. The way the guards looked at him, like he was already guilty. He thought about his sister’s voice on the phone. The way it had cracked when she said his name.He clenched his jaw.“If I decline,” he said, “what happens?”The System answered immediately.Threat escalation likely.
