Charles left the hotel feeling proud of himself. The cooking competition had been a success, and his skills had earned him a well-deserved victory. On top of that, Alison had given him her phone number. Everything seemed to be going his way ever since he activated the system.

He called a cab and asked the driver to take him to the Bennett family mansion. He needed to meet Sophia and settle things once and for all.

Suddenly, the familiar system screen appeared in front of him, and Charles couldn’t help but smile.

[New Mission: Spend $10 million within 24 hours. Complete this mission to earn two black card points. These points can be used to upgrade your skills or unlock new ones.]

As the message disappeared, Charles felt a thrill of excitement. $10 million? He was already brainstorming ways to spend the money when another notification came through, confirming the money had been transferred to his account.

The car pulled up outside the Bennett mansion, and Charles stepped out, feeling confident. He wasn’t the same poor man they used to mock. He had $10 million in his account now and wasn’t afraid of what they thought.

“Look who’s here,” Bella sneered as he entered the living room. The whole family, except Ethan, was gathered. They were clearly in the middle of a meeting. “The useless son-in-law has finally shown up.”

Charles glanced around. Their faces were full of disgust, but that didn’t surprise him. What caught his eye was Richard sitting beside Sophia’s grandmother, looking smug. Sophia was beaming, clearly happy to have him there.

“Where have you been?” Sophia asked sharply, getting up from her chair. “Does your ridiculous job keep you from coming home on time?”

“I had things to take care of,” Charles replied, walking over to a seat at the edge of the table. Normally, he wouldn’t even be allowed to sit during their meetings, but this time, he didn’t care.

“Who told you to sit?” snapped Mrs. Bennett. “Only true family members have the right to sit here. Stand up now!”

Charles got up slowly. He wasn’t interested in arguing. All he wanted was to get through this and leave.

Sophia walked over to him, holding a small folder. She threw it at his feet. “These are the divorce papers. Open them and sign. I’m done being your wife.”

Reaching for the folder, Charles opened it and turned the pages. Everything was previously signed by her. He questioned, "Is this what you want?" as he raised his gaze to her.

“Sophia grinned and remarked, "It's what I've wanted since the day we got married." "You will never be a better spouse than Richard will be. Get out and sign those documents. I no longer wish to interact with you. You have already shamed me in this city and destroyed my life.

"All right," Charles responded coolly. However, I still want the earrings I gave you on the night of our wedding. All I have left of my mother are these items, which belonged to her.

Sophia's face contorted with rage. She didn't think he would be so calm. To make fun of him in front of Richard, she wanted him to plead. She went into another room and came back a few seconds later with the earrings.

“These?” she asked mockingly before throwing them to the floor and stepping on them. She ground her heel into the earrings until they were bent and broken. “If you still want them, pick them up from the ground.”

Charles clenched his fists, trying to control his anger.

“They were the only thing of my mother’s that I had left,” he said quietly. “You didn’t have to destroy them. You could have just given them back.”

“I don’t care what they meant to you,” Sophia replied coldly. “Pick them up and leave. The more I see you, the more disgusted I feel.”

Charles bent down and gathered the broken pieces. They still meant something to him, even if they were damaged.

“Take this trash with you,” Bella added, throwing his bag at him. “You’re lucky we didn’t burn it.”

Ethan burst into the room at that moment, his face flushed with rage. He caught Charles by the collar as soon as he spotted him.

“What are you doing here?” Ethan yelled. “How dare you show your face after what you did today?”

“Mrs. Bennett urged Ethan to relax, and he grudgingly released Charles.

What is happening? Her voice was stern as she inquired.

Ethan gave a detailed account of the events at the Silver Plaza Hotel. When he was done, Charles was being glared at angrily by the entire family.

"Everything is ruined by you!" Sophia yelled. "This family has never experienced anything worse than you. I am eager for you to go.

Mrs. Bennett adjusted her glasses and glared at Charles. “You were the biggest mistake this family ever made. From now on, you are banned from this house. Sophia will marry Richard, and he will bring success to this family. If you come back here after today, I’ll make sure you’re thrown in jail.”

Richard stood up, looking confident. “Don’t worry, Mrs. Bennett. I’ll make sure he stays away. Unlike him, I’ll bring honor to this family. I’ll provide for Sophia and make sure she’s happy, unlike this failure standing here.”

Charles didn’t respond. He didn’t care about their insults anymore. He had bigger goals to focus on, like completing his task and earning his black card points. Revenge could come later.

He picked up his bag and turned to Sophia one last time. “Goodbye, Sophia.”

“Get out!” she yelled.

“And don’t come back!” Ethan added angrily.

Charles walked out without looking back, his mind already planning his next steps.

He went on and on, describing incidents, secrets, deals, and moves Lawrence had made—some real, some exaggerated.Charles listened carefully, nodding here and there, his hands folded together while his mind worked fast. Charles sat in silence, his face calm but his mind full of thoughts. He was clearly upset, though he tried not to show it. What troubled him most at that moment was that he couldn't simply speak up and ask about the Richard they were talking about. He badly wanted to know what that conversation was about, but he knew better than to interrupt. It just wouldn’t look good. If he tried to cut in or act like he was listening in, Mr. Jackson might take it the wrong way. It would be considered rude. It might seem like he was spying on a conversation that wasn’t meant for him, and that would create a bad impression. Not long after that, Mr. Jackson stood up from his seat and quietly walked out of the meeting room. Charles watched him leave, then slowly exhaled. He breathed out deeply like someone who had been holding something heavy inside. His expression looked distant, as if his thoughts had traveled far away. Anyone watching him closely could easily tell that something was on his mind. Ali

Ethan was taken by surprise when he turned around and saw the Governor standing quietly behind him. Neither of them spoke for a few seconds, and Ethan couldn't help but wonder how long the Governor had been there without saying anything.“How long has he been standing there?” Ethan asked himself, feeling a bit nervous.Trying not to show his shock, Ethan asked politely, “Is there something you need, sir?”Lawrence gave a small smile. “Not really. I noticed you were about to leave, but if you can, stay a little longer. I’d like to have a quick word with you.”“Yes, of course,” Ethan replied right away. He was relieved that the Governor didn’t seem upset. He walked a bit closer to the railing where the Governor stood, curious about what he wanted to talk about.“Good,” Lawrence said. “You seem to be a capable man. Just like your... friend here.”“My friend?” Ethan repeated, looking confused. Who did the Governor mean? Then it clicked. He realized Lawrence was talking about Sophia. Appar

Ethan was very pleased with what he had just heard. A big smile slowly formed on his face. He stood up from his seat without thinking twice and stretched out his hand for a handshake. He honestly didn’t think Charles would return the gesture, because Charles usually kept to himself. But to Ethan’s surprise, Charles reached forward and shook his hand with a firm grip. That small gesture was everything to Ethan. In that moment, Ethan became convinced that Charles had fallen completely for the story he had carefully crafted. Charles trusted him now—or so it seemed. Ethan didn’t expect things to turn around so quickly or so smoothly, but it had, and for that, he was deeply thankful.“This must be my lucky day,” he thought to himself, still smiling inside.Charles gave him a polite nod and said, “Okay, you can go now. I’ve got some other matters I need to handle.”Ethan tilted his head, pretending to be a little confused, and asked, “But I thought I was now part of your inner circle. Doesn

Charles finally snapped out of it. His heart was thudding hard in his chest like a heavy drumbeat. For a moment, everything had gone blank in his mind, like time had stopped and all his thoughts had vanished. But now, as he blinked and his focus returned, he could clearly see the car just inches away from him. It was right there—so close, it made his skin crawl.Acting fast, driven by pure instinct, he jumped back with all the strength his legs could muster. The tires of the speeding car screeched so loudly it pierced his ears. The car skidded to a stop, just in time. The smell of burnt rubber filled the air. That could have ended his life. It was far too close—closer than anything had ever come before. The driver’s door suddenly burst open, and the man behind the wheel jumped out in a panic. His face had turned a sickly pale, and his hands were trembling so hard they barely looked steady. Without wasting a single second, he ran straight toward Charles, his whole body shaking from fea

After helping Ethan earlier that evening, Charles Grey leaned back into the soft leather of his office chair and let out a long, deep sigh. His shoulders slumped slightly as the pressure from the day slowly started to leave his body. It had been an exhausting, eventful day. He felt it in his bones. What he really needed now was some rest—just some quiet time to let his mind settle. But instead of fully relaxing, his thoughts drifted straight to the conversation he had with Ethan. He thought again about Ethan’s offer and what he had said. Somehow, it didn’t feel right to him. In fact, the more he thought about it, the more it seemed like a trap. Something about it just didn’t add up. Ethan had made a big claim, but it was all too sudden, too convenient. It felt like bait.Still, Charles knew there was only one way to be sure whether Ethan was serious or just playing games. He needed proof. If Ethan could show something solid, maybe he would believe him. Until then, Charles wouldn’t be
