Logan calmly watched her go, a playful smile on his face.

Unknown to Barbara and the whole Sullivan Family, he was now the president of the Rhine Corporation — so whether they cooperated or not was entirely up to him.

Wasn't it?

Liam was nothing!

But when he glanced at Charlotte, he saw her brows furrowed with worry.

Logan’s heart softened.

She not only had to worry about their daughter, she also had to worry about the company.

He pulled her into his arms and reassured her.

“Don’t worry, we’ll find a way. Remember the struggling businessman I mentioned I had helped before? He has connections and is willing to lend us a helping hand.”

Charlotte nodded with hesitation.

Though she agreed, the worry didn’t leave her face.

******

Logan decided to take over the Rhine Corporation soon.

Now that he was going to wield enough influence, he'd secure Charlotte’s place as the unshakable CEO of Elysian Bloom.

His wife, Charlotte, had endured the harsh treatment of the cold-hearted Sullivan family board long enough.

Despite her unwavering loyalty, sharp leadership, and clear vision, they refused to recognize her true worth.

Now, no one would dare belittle her again and their daughter would grow up in a world where her mother was respected, not scorned.

Logan swore inwardly.

That night, while Logan sat in his study strategizing their next corporate move, Charlotte remained at Vermil Hospital, silently keeping vigil by their daughter Chloe’s bedside as she lay unconscious after a grueling—but half successful—surgery.

According to the doctor, Chloe would remain unconscious for quite a long time.

The good news, however, was that Chloe still had a big chance of making a full recovery.

For Logan and Charlotte, this was a small blessing amidst all the misfortune.

Just then, Charlotte’s phone buzzed against the table.

She had forgotten it in the rush to return to Chloe's bedside.

Logan glanced at the phone dismissively, about to silence it, when a message notification popped up.

Thinking it might be an urgent update from the company, he decided to check, in case he needed to pass it on to Charlotte right away.

He picked up the phone, and immediately noticed the sender was ... Liam.

His eyes narrowed dangerously.

Feeling something was off, he clicked on the message to read.

And what he saw made his pupils shrink with rage.

"Ms Sullivan, I’m giving you one last chance. Meet me at Room 238, Grand Bellaria Hotel, tonight at 10 PM. Let’s discuss privately how your company can collaborate with mine. Come alone."

It was a short message, but it struck Logan’s deepest nerve.

Logan’s eyes burned with fury.

Even if he didn’t know much about Liam, he realized what Liam was up to.

Liam’s plans to marry Charlotte had failed, and now he had likely devised another scheme to get her into his bed.

This wasn’t going to be a business meeting—it was something entirely different!

Fucking bastard!

Without a second thought, Logan deleted the message.

He was no longer that useless son-in-law who couldn’t protect what mattered.

Now, he would protect it all.

Logan closed his eyes and took a deep breath, repeating to himself over and over.

“Starting today, anyone who tries to hurt my family ... will pay the price.”

When he opened his eyes again, they gleamed with a chilling light.

A cold, calm smile curled on his lips.

“Liam Hayes! Begging for death already? Don’t worry — I’ll make it slow, and unforgettable.”

With rage and cold calculation battling within him, he made a call.

“Activate Shadow Protocol. I want Liam Hayes investigated to the last shred of his dignity. Full background. Bring the evidence.”

Within half an hour, Kane, the head of Logan's newly gained Shadow Guards, arrived with a dossier.

Fifteen minutes later, Logan arrived at the Grand Bellaria Hotel, along with Kane and seven other Shadow Guards.

These Shadow Guards were all armed, each of them capable of taking on a hundred men.

“Young Master, dealing with Liam Hayes is easy job. Why don’t you stay here in the car while we take care of him? I promise to finish him off clean and fast,” Kane suggested.

“I know it’s easy taking him down. But that’s not what I want. I'm here to ruin him!” Logan said, his voice cold as ice.

Logan then put on a custom silver bat-style AI mask with a voice changer that Kane handed him, to conceal his true identity.

He didn’t want to expose his identity in front of Liam.

He only wanted to make sure his wife and their daughter would never be bullied again.

As long as he could protect them quietly from the shadows, that was enough for him.

At exactly 10 PM, they arrived at Room 238.

Kane and the other seven bodyguards moved with brutal efficiency, surrounding the room.

Logan knocked on the door and waited patiently for Liam to answer.

Within seconds, the door creaked open.

Liam, wearing a smug grin and a silk robe with nothing underneath, stepped out.

His mouth already running.

“Oh here comes my beauty Charlotte. As long as you satisfy me tonight, everything else is negotiable. Otherwise —”

Charlotte adjusted the navy scarf in the mirror near the entryway, her movements calm, deliberate. The silk caught the morning light, almost defiant in its familiarity.Logan watched from across the room.“They’re watching for deviation,” he said quietly. “Change your routine and they’ll log it.”“So I don’t change it.”“Not yet.”Charlotte picked up her handbag. “You’re going to the office?”“Yes.”“You canceled meetings.”“I did.”She gave him a knowing look. “So you’ll be there… doing nothing.”“Publicly.”A faint smile touched her lips. “And privately?”Logan slipped his phone into his pocket. “Privately, I’ll find the pillar.”They stepped outside together. The air felt normal. Birds in the trees. Distant traffic. Stillness disguised as peace.Charlotte entered her car first. Logan leaned slightly toward her window before she closed it.“If anyone approaches you directly—”“I disengage,” she finished calmly.“And?”“And I call you.”He nodded once. She drove off at her usual time

The question hit Logan like an insult wrapped in mockery, sharp enough to sting and deliberate enough to linger. It wasn’t merely what was being offered—it was the presumption behind it, the assumption that he could be toyed with, manipulated into doubt by a voice on the other end of a line. “So,” the man repeated smoothly, his tone unhurried, savoring the moment, “would you like to speak with Charlotte? At least then you’d be certain she’s really with me.” For a split second, Logan said nothing. His silence wasn’t uncertainty—it was restraint. The kind forged through years of control, years of learning when to speak and when to wait. Then the fury came. Not loud. Not reckless. Sharp. Controlled. Far more dangerous than shouting. “You must think I’m a fool,” Logan said coldly, each word falling with precision. “Do you really believe I can be deceived so cheaply?” The man chuckled, clearly amused, as though Logan’s resistance only enhanced the game. “I believe you’re human, Logan

The drive home was quiet. Not tense—just heavy with thought.Charlotte sat beside him, her gaze forward, fingers loosely intertwined in her lap. The city lights passed over her face in shifting gold and shadow. Logan kept his eyes on the road, but his mind was nowhere near the asphalt beneath the tires. He was reconstructing everything. The call. The timing. The digital spikes. The holding company name on that tablet. It wasn’t random. It was strategic.“They wanted to measure you,” Charlotte said softly, breaking the silence.Logan didn’t look at her. “They did.”“And?”“And now I know how they measure.”She glanced at him. “You’re not going to sleep tonight, are you?”“No.”She gave a faint, knowing smile. “I didn’t think so.”When they pulled into the driveway, the house looked the same as it had hours ago. Calm. Silent. Perfectly composed. But Logan no longer saw it as a home.He saw it as a monitored environment. He stepped out first, scanning instinctively. No unusual vehicles.

The private lounge was quieter than the main floor, separated by a paneled divider and heavy velvet curtains that muted the jazz drifting in from the bar. The lighting was lower here, more intimate, casting long shadows across polished wood and leather chairs.Logan remained standing.Charlotte sat slowly, her posture composed but no longer carefree. The man took his time lowering himself into the chair opposite them, as though he had orchestrated every second of this moment.Logan’s gaze never left him.“You said you had information,” Logan began, his voice calm but edged with steel. “Start talking.”The man folded his hands loosely in front of him. “Straight to business. I respect that.”Charlotte glanced at Logan briefly. The moment Evelyn’s words settled in the air—heavy, final, and immovable—Jessica felt something inside her quietly collapse. There was no sudden outburst, no sharp cry. It was the slow, hollow sensation of something vital giving way, like a structure that had been standing for years finally realizing it had no foundation left. Alexander. Not Brandon. No matter what. The words echoed in her mind, repeating themselves with cruel persistence. For several seconds, Jessica remained where she stood, staring at her mother as though she were seeing her for the first time. The woman before her no longer looked like a parent caught between concern and control. Evelyn Marion looked resolved—coldly, unwaveringly resolved—the kind of resolve that shut out reason, dismissed evidence, and erased any possibility of compromise. Jessica swallowed hard. Her throat felt tight, her chest constricted, as though the air in the room had grown heavier. The strength that had carried her through the confro
