"Strength, Four."

[Confirm allocation?]

"Yes."

[Strength +4.]

"Agility,four"

[Agility +4]

"Vitality, four."

[Vitality +4]

His muscles tightened.

The pain didn't disappear.

But something changed.

He could feel it.

His grip became firmer.

His body felt slightly heavier, but also lighter.

Stronger.

The goblins rushed him.

Xavier raised his shield and picked up his sword.

The first blade struck.

CLANG!

This time, he didn't stagger.

The goblin did.

Xavier swung.

The sword crashed against its skull.

The goblin dropped.

[Target eliminated.]

[Experience gained.]

Another rushed him.

Xavier stepped aside.

The blade scraped his ribs.

He winced.

Then stabbed.

The goblin fell.

[Target eliminated.]

[Experience gained.]

Xavier breathed.

"System."

[Yes, Host.]

"How many?"

A pause.

[Fifty nine.]

Xavier stared at the horde.

Fifty nine.

His grip tightened around the sword.

"Count them down."

He lowered his center of gravity.

[Understood.]

The goblins charged.

Xavier gripped his sword tightly.

Xavier met them.

There was no graceful swordsmanship.

No refined technique.

He didn't know how to fight.

He simply refused to stop.

He blocked when he could.

Dodged when he couldn't.

Stabbed when something came within reach.

When his sword became trapped beneath a goblin's arm, he abandoned it and drove his shield into the creature's face.

When another grabbed his leg, he slammed his knee into its jaw.

When one tackled him to the ground, Xavier rolled with it, grabbed a loose stone, and smashed it against the goblin's temple.

He fought dirty.

He fought desperately.

He fought like a cornered animal.

A blade cut his shoulder.

Another pierced his forearm.

Xavier screamed.

Then he stabbed the attacker through the chest.

[Target eliminated.]

[Experience gained.]

He barely had time to breathe before another goblin attacked.

He raised his shield.

Too slow.

The blade cut across his cheek.

Xavier stumbled.

The goblin grinned.

Xavier grinned back.

Then drove his forehead into its face.

The goblin reeled.

Xavier grabbed its weapon.

Pulled.

The goblin resisted.

Xavier kicked its knee.

The creature fell.

He plunged his sword into its throat.

[Target eliminated.]

[Experience gained.]

Another.

Another.

Another.

The chamber became chaos.

Blood stained the ancient stone.

Broken weapons littered the floor.

Bodies piled between the pillars.

Xavier's breathing grew heavier.

His arms became slower.

His legs felt numb.

[Fatigue: 71/100.]

"Still standing."

A goblin attacked.

Xavier blocked.

The impact nearly broke through his guard.

He stabbed.

The goblin fell.

[Target eliminated.]

[Experience gained.]

[Level Up.]

The pain vanished.

Xavier froze.

The wounds across his body closed.

The bleeding stopped.

The cuts disappeared.

His torn flesh restored itself as though the injuries had never existed.

Xavier stared at his arms.

Then his chest.

Nothing.

Not even a scar.

[Level 4.]

[External injuries restored.]

[Fatigue reduced by 10.]

Xavier exhaled.

His body felt lighter.

But not fresh.

The exhaustion remained.

[Fatigue: 61/100.]

The goblins didn't give him time to think.

They attacked again.

Xavier raised his sword.

The fight continued.

---

He lost count.

Ten.

Fifteen.

Twenty.

Maybe more.

The System kept counting.

Xavier kept moving.

Every time he killed one, another attacked.

Every time he was wounded, he fought through it.

A blade entered his shoulder.

He stabbed the goblin through the eye.

Another tore into his abdomen.

He dragged the creature down with him and drove his sword into its chest.

Another knocked him against a pillar.

Xavier spat blood.

He pushed himself upright.

He hugged its body and slit it's throat.

[Target eliminated.]

[Experience gained.]

[Current Experience: 87%.]

He stared at the message.

Almost.

Just a little more.

He raised his sword.

Another goblin charged.

Xavier stepped forward.

His sword pierced its chest.

The creature collapsed.

[Target eliminated.]

[Experience gained.]

Nothing.

No level up.

Xavier's breathing grew heavier.

"Come on."

Another goblin attacked.

He blocked.

His shield cracked.

He stabbed.

The goblin fell.

Nothing.

His knees weakened.

"Come on!

Another.

He killed it.

Still nothing.

Xavier staggered backward.

His vision blurred.

The chamber spun around him.

Blood dripped from his fingertips.

His face was a bloody mess.

His sword hung loosely in his hand.

The remaining goblins were gone.

Except one.

The goblin stared at him.

Xavier stared back.

Neither moved.

Then the goblin lunged.

Xavier dropped his sword.

His hands shot forward and caught the creature by the neck.

He pinned it to the ground, climbing over it.

He drove his thumbs through its eyeballs with every strength he had left.

The goblin struggled, but Xavier wasn't letting it go.

Then, it stopped moving.

Silence filled the chamber.

Xavier stood among the bodies.

Dozens of them.

Dead.

He looked around.

There was no celebration.

No triumph.

Only exhaustion.

His shield was cracked.

His sword was barely holding together.

His clothes were soaked in blood.

His body was covered in wounds.

And yet...

He was alive.

Xavier took one step.

His leg buckled.

He fell to one knee.

"Damn..."

He tried to stand.

Nothing.

His body refused.

It was a bloody wreck.

He collapsed onto the stone.

His breathing was shallow.

His fingers twitched against the floor.

His eyes drifted towards his experience bar.

[Current Experience: 97%]

'So Close...'

He had been so close to another level.

But there hadn't been enough.

Xavier forced himself forward.

His fingers dragged across the blood-soaked stone.

One hand.

Then the other.

He crawled.

Slowly.

Painfully.

Behind him lay the remains of the goblin horde.

Not neatly slain.

Not defeated through skill.

They had been torn apart by desperation.

By instinct.

By a boy who had no idea how to fight...

But knew one thing.

He would not die.

Footsteps echoed through the chamber.

Xavier stopped.

His eyes barely opened.

Two figures appeared at the other end.

The Holy Maiden and Alexandria stood beneath the stone archway.

Neither moved.

The sight before them had silenced both women.

Dead goblins covered the chamber.

Blood stained the pillars.

Broken weapons were scattered across the floor.

And in the middle of it all...

A battered young man was crawling through the carnage.

His sword lay several feet behind him.

His shield was broken.

His body was drenched in blood.

Alexandria's expression hardened.

"The dungeon intruder."

The Holy Maiden didn't answer.

Her golden eyes had already found him.

A faint radiance appeared within her pupils.

The Divine Eyes activated.

She saw his wounds.

His exhaustion.

His physical condition.

Then...

She froze.

Something was wrong.

Her gaze sharpened.

She looked again.

And again.

The golden light in her eyes intensified.

But whatever she was searching for refused to make sense.

There was something inside that boy.

Something that shouldn't exist.

Something her Divine Eyes could not properly identify.

The Holy Maiden's calm expression finally cracked.

Her lips parted slightly.

"What... is this?"

Alexandria looked at her.

"My lady?"

The Holy Maiden didn't respond.

Her eyes remained fixed on Xavier.

For the first time in a very long while.

She was looking at something she couldn't understand.

They were cunning creatures, and their habit of mocking their prey with laughter was well documented. But this?Staying hidden while systematically surrounding their enemies? That was different. He had encountered Kobolds before. They usually relied on their numbers, rushing their targets and overwhelming them through sheer aggression. They could be surprisingly coordinated to a degree, but this level of patience was unusual. There was only one explanation he could think of.'An Alpha Kobold.'His expression darkened. But this is supposed to be a D-rank dungeon.Alpha Kobolds only appeared in mutated D-rank dungeons or C-Rank dungeons. Their presence usually meant the group was dealing with something far more dangerous. He glanced toward th

Five minutes.”It was so casually said that Xavier wasn't sure if she was joking.“Do you even have your gear ready?”“My gear?” Xavier asked.“Your hunting equipment.”Xavier paused. Then he chuckled a bit.“I don't really have any.” He said. The Holy Maiden blinked.“You don't?”Xavier shook his head.“The only things I have are a pickaxe and a few knives.”For a moment, she simply stared at him confused. Then she covered her mouth.“Oh.” She suddenly remembered. She looked slightly embarrassed.“Sorry. I forgot you were working as a porter not long ago.”“Yhh, It's fine.” Xavier replied. The Holy Maiden turned.“Alexandria.”“Yes, Holy Maiden?”“Get him some equipment.”Alexandria stepped forward.“What weapon would you prefer?”Xavier thought about it.“Any.” He answered.“Any?”“I've never really had a chance to develop a preference.” He explained.Alexandria looked at the Holy Maiden. The Holy Maiden considered hi

  • Five Minutes

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~The sound of the large door opening caught Xaviers attention. He looked up.The Holy Maiden was walking toward him with several people behind her. Most of them were guards, but one man immediately stood out.He looked to be in his fifties, with neatly combed grey-black hair and a well-tailored black suit. His expression was calm, almost pleasant, but there was something commanding in the way he carried himself. The kind of presence that made people instinctively give him room. The Holy Maiden stopped when she noticed Xavier."Oh, Xavier."Xavier gave them both a small nod."Holy Maiden."She tilted her head."What brings you here?"Xavier hesitated."I came with a reply to your offer." The Holy Maiden's expression changed slightly. She then turned to the man beside her."I'm sorry, but I have something important to attend to right now. We'll have to continue this another time."The man's smile barely changed. But his eyes narrowed slightly."Oh? But we were just getting
