"Here Lucas, is the divorce agreement drafted by Ms. Bella Bryant. Obviously your signature is the only thing required"
In the Visitation room of the state's prison, the secretary, Emily William pulled out a piece of paper from a brown envelope, placing it on the table.
Across was a man wearing a bright orange prison jumpsuit, zips in front and hands cuffed in front of him.
"Divorce? I'm lost" Lucas Oliver froze counting his words.
"Isn't it clear? Your marriage with Ms. Bella Bryant has come to an end. Do you need a soothsayer to tell you that you're not even in the same class anymore, you're outmatched Lucas. You're a smudge in her reputation " Emily took no words back not minding what ever effect it had on him.
"A smudge on her reputation" He gave a hard look. "Where is she?" He asked.
"Putting herself out there and making it worth every penny. You can't relate to that right, at least not with your hands cuffed"
"My being here isn't what it looks like" he couldn't say more.
"Tell me, what does it look like? A CEO? A millionaire? A billionaire? It's high time you stop deceiving yourself and say it as it is". " You're not the best thing that has happened to Bella, how many more years do you need to realise that? A blind man can tell she's better off without you in her life. Since you can't afford the lifestyle she wants, you can make things up by signing"
"I won't sign unless she's here" Snapping out of his thoughts.
"I assure you it'll change nothing. Save us the whole stress and scribble that signature of yours right here" she pointed to a blank space with the top of her index nail while the other hand stretched towards him offering him a pen for signing.
"I didn't stutter, did I?" He grinned. "Get her here" he meant every single word.
***"
Bella Bryant arrived in no time just after Emily reached out to her. Studying the atmosphere of the room she took the paper from Emily.
"I see I need to do it myself" Bella took her coat off as she took a seat. "I'm requesting for a divorce Lucas, take a look at this ". She dipped her hand in her black birkin bag, taking out a publication. " Right here is my modelling brand I just launched. It has generated millions of revenue in a space of four months. Thousands of women out there are looking up to me as their role model. With all this greatness, you're the only pest in my life which I need to get rid of" she brought her lips to a pout.
"All these years, only for you to define me as a pest in your life? " Lucas muttered silently.
"My lovely husband " She called out sarcastically. "If it's consolation you seek, you of all people should know I don't possess that, however, I have a million dollar offer for you once you sign"
"A million dollar? I never thought what we shared was mere business to you and nothing more. I had no idea it had a financial figure. Was that all it was to you? Was I someone you kept only to discard at a certain time for a certain amount?"
"Oh come on! Were you thinking I'll stoop so low to give you the 'my husband ' tag for ever? Do you even think you're deserving of it? Do you not feel inferior having me as your wife? How on earth do you sleep with both eyes closed knowing I'm way out of your league? What pride you must have had to walk the whole earth knowing I settled for you " Her voice slightly raised.
Lucas was used to her intonation, it wasn't a new thing to him. She didn't care that a third party was in the room with them. She felt unstoppable. It was her world and she didn't care who was out of it.
"I'm still trying to process all of these" he scoffed.
"To make it easy, let me take you down the drain. You clearly cannot provide any support for my career, you're nothing but a debit. I keep wondering how I kept up with you all these years with how useless you are. To worsen the situation you're in prison? How on earth isn't that a stain to my reputation? I wouldn't want the news carrying that my ex husband is an ex-convict as headlines"
Disappointed Lucas took the pen from Emily. He didn't want to sit and watch her belittle him more than she already did. It was lucid she didn't want him in her life anymore
"There you go. Keep your compensation, if it was business to you, it wasn't business to me" he signed. "You'd have to return the pendant I gave you. It's a family heirloom, I'd like to keep it. After that, we'd both go our separate ways"
"Like you can leave, You're stuck here" she mocked. "I'll bring it on my next visit " with a pang of guilt she asked " Would that be all or you'd like to think of any other terms you'd like to add?" She picked up her coat leaving no room for an answer.
" Do you think I am doing the right thing?" She asked Emily as she shut the door behind her.
"I wouldn't lead you to your grave ma'am, you're absolutely on the right track" she assured her.
"That'll be all for now then, I'm glad he's finally off me. I have to meet up with someone right now. Get my driver" she ordered.
Lucas watched her back from the transparent wall as she walked down the hallway, a bitter smile tugging at his lips.
Lucas Oliver was in prison to carry out a secret mission. Bound by orders he could not tell her the truth.
"This is actually happening" he whispered to himself thinking about all the years spent together and she couldn't believe in his character.
"When disaster strikes, even the closest birds fly apart" he used the popular saying to comfort himself and not blame her.
Immediately, the door swung open, a warder entered, saluted him respectfully and stated his mission "Mr president demands to see you sir"

Finally, a sliver of opportunity appeared. Lucas had stepped aside for a brief moment, speaking to an aide and distracted. Bella’s chest tightened, and she marched forward, words rehearsed a dozen times in her mind. “Lucas…” she began, her tone dangerously soft, laced with venom. He glanced up, eyes calm, unreadable.“You moved on… this fast?” she spat, her voice breaking slightly. “Is this why you rushed the divorce? Was it just to toss me aside for her?”Lucas’s gaze remained steady, his posture immaculate. His lips curved slightly, not in amusement but in controlled precision. Then he spoke, each word slicing through her like ice:“Some people only value gold when they lose it.”Bella froze. Her lips parted, her throat dry. The words weren’t loud, but they carried a weight that crushed every excuse she had left in her mind. She opened her mouth, trying to reply, but no words came.“Gold?” she finally whispered, incredulous. “You... how”Before she could finish, Malcolm appeared at

Bella clenched her fists as she and Malcolm walked away from Camila’s guarded table. The sting of humiliation burned on her face like a slap. Malcolm kept his expression neutral, but a twitch in his jaw betrayed his frustration. They had just been treated like nobodies, as if their presence was nothing more than a nuisance.Greenshift Energy Industries was failing. Tonight was their one shot. If they couldn’t secure a collaboration with Global Commerce Federation (GCF), their company would inevitably collapse, and every guest here probably knew it. The whispers they heard confirmed it.“Defaulted on a major contract…”“They’re desperate for an investor…”“Global Commerce Federation won’t waste time on a sinking ship…”Malcolm forced a smile, but his voice dropped to a grim whisper. “We can’t leave without getting through to them. Whether they’re arrogant or not, Global Commerce Federation is our last lifeline.”Bella nodded slowly, though her attention was fixed on Lucas and the myste

The grand hall of Solaria Imperial Tower glowed like a palace dipped in gold.Crystal chandeliers shimmered overhead, reflecting off polished marble floors. Upstairs, away from the chaos of the lobby, Camila closed the suite door behind them and exhaled softly. Her gaze drifted to Lucas’s hand the small, crushed remains of the necklace still resting in his palm like pieces of a broken memory.“Lucas” she said gently, stepping closer, “give it to me.”He hesitated.“I know someone who can restore it,” she added, her voice softer now. “Better than anyone else. It won’t be perfect, but… it won’t stay shattered either.”Lucas slowly placed the broken necklace into her hands. “Thank you,” he murmured. But his eyes remained clouded, the weight of the moment still lingering on his shoulders.Camila studied him for a long second. “You’re thinking about what that brat said downstairs, aren’t you?”Lucas didn’t answer, but the faint tension in his jaw gave her all the confirmation she needed.“So there really is a ‘new brother-in-law’?” she asked, her tone slightly sharper than before.Jealousy pricked at her, quick and uninvited.
