Chapter 7

Nolan hung up. He dropped his phone and didn't dwell on the matter anymore. He simply knew that Bob was capable enough to put Grace in her place.

However, the little drama he’d just did, didn't go unnoticed. Everybody inside the cafe were looking at Nolan with gazes of disgust and disdain.

Now, what?

Nolan was taken aback. He simply didn't understand their expressions.

Shouldn't they be terrified to their guts? What Nolan had just done wasn't simple, it was enough to make any other person pee on their pants. But instead of horror, they felt amazed.

How can this fool go this far to pretend to know the Manager of Night Shade hotel?!

If he'd picked any other person else—maybe, just maybe—they would've believed his little drama. But he chose the wrong person, because Bob Knight was unreachable.

Bob was in charge of all the resources and assets that the Wilton family has in Aurora city. He was the kind of man that the richest-of-the-rich families in Aurora beg to have an audience with.

If anything, he was one of the most powerful men in Aurora city.

Hahaha!!

Hahaha!!

A series of nerve-wracking laughter erupted across the cafe hall. It felt like the entire building was about to experience an earthquake.

“To think that he would go this far just to save some face.” Someone suddenly said.

Hahaha!

Hahaha!

Another round of laughter shot up the building's roof.

“Ain't you a bit ashamed, brother?”

“How can he be ashamed when he scams people for a living?”

“You ran out of luck, young man. You'd to go and use Bob Knight's name.”

“Hey! Apologize to everyone here for deceiving them.” Chairman Raymond said as he scoffed.

“Apologize? Why? I didn't do anything wrong.” Nolan sneered as he said.

“You didn't do anything wrong? You almost scammed everyone here with your fake call.” Stacey demanded with a cold glare, “Why don't you crawl on your knees and beg every single person in here. Then maybe I would plead with Miss Neil on your behalf not to punish you severely for casually mentioning her boss's name in front of her without adding respect.”

Stacey was thinking of the best possible way to humiliate Nolan. But to think the fool would play right into here trap foolishly.

“I didn't scam anybody. You can believe it or not. It's not like I am forcing you to.” Nolan crossed his arms on his chest as he responded.

“Miss Neil, what should we do? This fool clearly doesn't want to apologize for offending you. Should I have him beaten up?” Harry said.

Harry wanted to get on Miss Grace's good side. There was nothing like too much connection, after all.

“Do you know who I am?” Grace decided to take actions into her hand if not this bastard would end up tarnishing her reputation. At first, Grace had only planned to humiliate Nolan a bit, however, Nolan has proven to be quite stubborn. It was only natural that she take advantage of her power. This was her territory, after all, and it would be bad for her name if Nolan walked out of this hotel unscathed.

“Ain’t you Grace? The assistant manager of Night Shade hotel?” Nolan continued with an expressionless look, “Bob never mentioned you. I guess you weren't considered important. I can already tell why based on your current behavior. Well, Night Shade Hotel won't be needing your services anymore starting today.”

WTF?!

Gasps erupted like a volcano about to spit lava—inside the cafe. Both wealthy guests and staff members of the hotel were dumbstruck at the same time.

“OMG! What did he just say?”

“The nerve! To humiliate Miss Neil like that!”

“He’s dead meat. Miss Neil would have him beaten to a pulp right away.”

“No escaping that fate for sure. Only a miracle would save you right now.”

“Are you stupid?! How dare you say such a thing to Miss Neil?! To think that I was going to beg on your behalf earlier. You don't deserve my plea. You need to be taught a lesson you'd never forget.” Stacey flared up.

“Disgusting. You're nothing but a good-for-nothing peasant. What can you possibly do? You think you can scare me with such puny threats?” Grace scoffed.

“Heh! I'm amazed how he's so calm! One would mistake him for an actual rich heir with such display of character. However, he's still a street tramp. A good scare is enough to set his life straight. He needs to be reminded of his roots, if not, he will keep pretending to be who he's not.” Chairman Raymond said, his hands in his pocket.

“Sir?! It's really you?!” A male waiter suddenly said as he walked into the cafe.

“I see you've decided to try our cafe's menu. I promise you you won't be disappointed. We serve the most exquisite fine upscale breakfasts in the city. Should I walk you through our menu?” The waiter added with a hint of excitement in his tone. He walked up to Nolan. He could tell what was happening. Some rich heir had offended Nolan and everyone including the assistant manager herself were siding the rich heir and reprimanding Nolan.

The waiter was the only one that knew that Nolan wasn't ordinary, that's why he quickly stepped in to stop the commotion—or, the assistant manager might actually end up offending an important figure.

Nolan was surprised to see the waiter here. He was the same waiter that had served Nolan the twenty expensive dishes yesterday evening. To think that he would run into him today?

Nolan was a bit embarrassed, after all, what he'd done was so outrageous. He could only respond with a wry smile, “I guess.”

“You're so modest, sir.” The waiter smiled as he said. Nolan had left a deep impression on him yesterday. Nolan was so down-to-earth and lowly dressed. Anybody would've easily mistaken him for a lowly peasant. But to think that he was actually a rich heir who likes to keep a low profile.

“Carl, what's going on here? You know this pauper?” Grace asked, very surprised.

“Pauper? Assistant manager, this is the young man I talked to you about yesterday. The same young man that had ordered twenty of our most expensive dishes with a straight face, yesterday. When I investigated about him, I found out that he booked one of our hotel's rooms and will be staying here for sometime. To think I would run into him so soon.” Carl explained.

“What…?”

A series of gasps echoed across the cafe's rooftop. Everyone was stunned to the core.

The young man they were taunting was actually a rich man? How is that even possible? To think that they'd offended someone capable enough to buy twenty of the hotel's most expensive dishes. Most of those expensive dishes had been imported from abroad. They were priced in the tens of thousand dollars per dish.

“Are you sure of what you're saying? Look at his face very well. Are you certain he's the same person?” Grace questioned bitting her lower lips.

“I'm hundred percent certain. It's him yeah. Assistant Manager, I can never forget his face after he left a deep impression on me yesterday. I got to earn so much commission because of him.” Carl nodded as he responded.

“What's happening? Is he someone you know?” Stacey butted in, curiously.

“Yeah. Turns out he is actually one of our hotel's important guests. He did left a deep impression on us all by ordering twenty expensive dishes at once. I'd been looking for him to convince him to open a membership card with our hotel.” Grace explained to them all. Her voice was rather calm all of a sudden.

“Twenty expensive dishes?! How much did it cost in total?” Stacey enquired. She didn't know how much each dish cost since she hadn't ordered for the most expensive dishes once. Stacey knew her boyfriend couldn't afford it so they rather not trail that road.

“Two hundred and seventy-five grand.” Grace responded.

“Two hundred and what? H-how's that even possible?” Stacey was shocked beyond words.

Nolan immediately feigned a cough, increasing his pace so that she wouldn't be able to look into his eyes. He might end up with a nervous breakdown if he maintained eye contact with Jessica. Instead, he chose not to respond to her inquiry, acting as if he didn't hear what she'd just said.He fixated his entire attention on the magnificent building in front of them, as he kept walking, with no sign of slowing down any minutes later. Jessica was following behind him. She noticed his unusual behavior, realizing that Nolan had done that on purpose in order to avoid giving her a response. This stirred up a teasing giggle from Jessica as she silently watched his back.A look of satisfaction etched on her face.He had always been the only one getting on her nerves, seeing him reacting uncomfortably right now made her grin in satisfaction. She realized that although she'd been with Nolan for more than a week now, as her personal bodyguard of course, she hadn't really seen this side of him. • Chapter 125

Nolan quietly followed behind Jessica, his thoughts drifting to what she had said when they were standing by the door to her room.He couldn't believe that he hadn't moved on yet. The mention of his ex-wife ignites a burning flame inside of him, consuming him with immense rage. Nolan was reminded of all he had to go through in order to maintain his marriage with his ex-wife, Megan Jones. The constant humiliation, being treated like a servant and a doormat, taking a beating that he could've easily avoided, working his ass off to ensure that she gets the life she deserves, making calls with connections he'd long severed… and so on.And then, there was the fact that he caught her cheating on him on their anniversary day, only to realize that her relationship with her lover had gone way back before he even caught her. What had completely broken him apart was the announcement of a divorce. Just like that. While she was in the process of cheating. Without any form of remorse. The fact that

Shortly after, Nolan arrived at Jessica's place, the mansion. The security guards did not need to stop or question him anymore, they simply let him through while sparing a few short nods, of which Nolan reciprocated.“How are you doing, Nolan?” One of the security guards inquired with an awkward smile plastered on his face. The other security guard suddenly asked amidst slight giggles, “Want to eat lunch later? Just the three of us and Chief Victor.”Ever since he started working for the Lee family as Jessica Lee's personal bodyguard, Nolan came to realize that the two security guards hanging by the gates to the mansion aren't as bad as he'd thought them to be based on the first impression. In fact, they seemed to be quite talkative, looking to engage in a friendly conversation with him in order to reconcile their past differences.Of course Nolan couldn't tell if they were sincerely sorry for how they'd treated him that day or if they'd come pleading for his forgiveness driven by fea

A few days later, Nolan was relaxing on a divan, reading a book and sipping a vintage red wine inside his hotel room located on the third floor of Night Shade Hotel, when his cellphone started ringing abruptly. He averted his gaze from the book within his grips and shifted the focus of his attention to the ringing cellphone on top of the small table beside him. He gave the cellphone a casual glance, however he couldn't tell who was calling him because the phone's screen was faced downwards.Nolan closed the book he was reading and gently set it aside on the same table before picking up the phone and quickly glancing at the caller's ID.It was Jessica Lee.Nolan had saved her contact on his phone as Miss Lee, so he immediately recognized who it was.A soft sigh escaped through his throat as he felt reluctant to pick her phone call. Why? It was because, for the past four to five days, Nolan had busied himself intensely to the point that he was starting to feel a bit stressed and tired.

Gasps erupted abruptly inside the private dining room as everyone expressed their shock and surprise.‘What's going on?’‘Why was that man sitting on Mr Nolan's seat?’Everyone wondered thoughtfully. They were all flabbergasted beyond words as they tried to comprehend what was going on.“Hey, you! What are you doing sitting on Mr Nolan's seat?” One of the guests shouted angrily as he glared at Nolan coldly.Nolan simply returned his glare with a slight amusing smile of nonchalancy.SLAM!“How dare you? Get your ass out of that chair right now.” The man thundered furiously, he slammed his hand on the table and strung to his feet clenching his fist tightly. His facial muscles twitched involuntarily as his sclera turned red as he stared daggers at Nolan. He despised Nolan's arrogance so much. The only thought that resonated inside his head was to walk over to the young man occupying Mr Nolan's seat and give him a thorough beating of his entire life for disrespecting everyone inside the

  • Chapter 121

Somehow, Tommy James had hoped that it was true and that his nephew, Nathan, was secretly the owner of Fraser Company. However, he knew that it was all wishful thinking.“It doesn't make any sense at all. Did Mr Nolan inform you that he's no longer coming to the investor dinner tonight? Tell us the truth.” Someone demanded with a hoarse voice.“Lying to us is a form of disrespect, manager Hannah. And I don't take that lightly. I understand that you're new to this whole thing and you're not familiar with handling the job of a manager because it's too much of a burden to you. I completely understand.” Mark, Nolan's former senior at his workplace suddenly said, drawing everyone's attention to him.He was occupying a seat at the far end of the rectangular intricate table, a stern look etched on his face with cold eyes that glared at manager Hannah with piercing eyes. Mark had seen Nolan before, however he pretended not to, in order to get the entire room against manager Hannah. He wanted
