The Untameable Leon

"Leon, my son-in-law, how are you? Why did you call? Is everything fine there? Do you need anything?" Mommy Charmaine, my mother-in-law, asked successively from the other line the moment she answered my call which immediately made me smile.

"I'm okay here, Mom. I just miss you all." I answered while wiping the sweat on my forehead and as I am also playing with a small stone with my left foot.

"Aw, we miss you too, Leon. So much," she said sweetly. "Why do I feel like you want to say something more, hmm? What is it?" she added and I could hear the excitement in her voice.

"You really know me very well, Mom, huh?" I said amazingly.

"Of course!" she exclaimed happily. "So what is it?"

I sighed heavily at first as my heart beats for joy right now before I continue speaking.

"I planned on taking a half-day rest from work today and my boss just allowed me earlier, Mom. I will go home to surprise and spend time with Crizelda because it's our second wedding anniversary and also because I already miss her so much..." I said smilingly like an idiot even though I am just talking with my mother-in-law from the other line.

"That's very sweet of you, Leon. I am sure that she will be surprised and so happy with that amazing plan of yours," she said gently. "Happy wedding anniversary to the both of you. I wish that you and Crizelda will continue to love and be with each other forever. The word 'thank you' will never be enough for the love and care that you are giving to our daughter. Your Daddy Christian and I are so blessed and lucky to have a hard-working and so loving son-in-law like you," she added wholeheartedly and emotionally which made my heart melt.

"I am not just the only one who is blessed and lucky here in this world, Mom, because I have you and Daddy Christian as my super loving and caring mother and father-in-law," I said softly as I am starting to get emotional. "Thank you so much for loving and accepting me for who I am. Thank you for letting Crizelda marry me despite my social status..." I added as my voice croaked.

The phone call that me and Mommy Charmaine had was only short because she and Daddy Christian were still both on a business trip and I didn't want to bother them too much.

I was about to go to our small canteen after I put back my phone inside my pocket when just suddenly, someone blocked the way that made me stop moving and when I raised my head, I saw Brandon - my fellow worker, who was already looking at me angrily.

I just greeted and nodded my head at him as a sign of respect and I was about to already walk past him when he just suddenly grabbed me on my left shoulder which immediately made me stop moving for the second time.

"Where do you think you're going, Altaraza?" he said with gritted teeth as he faced me.

"I am going to rest for a while, Sir, because it is already our break time," I said respectfully as I was looking at him straight in his eyes.

"Who said that you are going to have your break time, huh?! We are the only ones who can rest and not you so you better get back to work now!" he said furiously as his jaw was clenched. His face was also red from anger towards me as if he would explode anytime.

And because I didn't want to get into trouble, I just obeyed him and started working again in the middle of the scorching heat of the sun even though I am already thirsty and a little bit hungry.

I am working as a construction worker and Brandon is one of the people who have worked here for the longest time already that's why I am doing everything just to avoid getting into trouble with him and his other friends because I am aware of how much they hate me and I still don't know the reason why.

Like what I am doing every day, I again endured the scorching heat of the sun as I was transporting and carrying numbers of cement sacks and hollow blocks back and forth alone because my fellow workers were already resting.

I have to admit that I envy them because they can take a break whenever they want unlike me. If I could just really fight them without losing my job, I would do it, but because they are so close to our bosses, I was left with no choice but to let them make me suffer at work.

It is also already very difficult to find a job these days, especially since I am not a college graduate which is why the only remaining choice for me is to be patient and endure everything.

I just thought of my dear wife Crizelda while I was working and it seemed like my tiredness was slowly disappearing when I realized that we would be finally with each other again later after a few weeks of not seeing each other because of my work.

My wife has a really special and magical effect on me. She always lightens every situation just by thinking about her even though we are hours away from each other.

It was only a few hours later that I just realized that I was already on a bus going home and since it was still five hours before I finally got home, I decided to sleep first to rest.

My body is also a bit sore from working, which is why I really need to rest so badly. I don't want Crizelda to worry about me, that is why I prayed that the pain in my body would go away when I woke up before going to sleep.

I don't know how many hours I slept. All I know is that I just suddenly woke up because of the noise of the people around me and it was just a good time because I noticed that I am already in our hometown. The pain in my body is also gone which I am so thankful for.

Even though I arrived at quarter to six, I am still very grateful because there is a flower shop that is still open near the bus station that's why I bought a beautiful bouquet for my wife right away.

As I was already riding inside the tricycle, I couldn't help but get excited by Crizelda's reaction. I know that she will be surprised and happy with all of these, especially that the expensive phone that she always wanted since then is already here with me.

I really work hard and will still work hard so that I can do everything she wants and what she deserves because that's how much I love her.

I am willing to do everything and endure everything just to make her happy because I believe in the saying that, "A happy wife is a happy life."

It was already dark outside as I quickly got off the tricycle. I immediately went inside our house wearing my big smile as I am holding the bouquet and the expensive phone which is my gift to her after I gave my thanks and my fare to the tricycle driver.

When I did not see her in our living room and in our kitchen, I immediately and excitedly went directly to our room but my walk just suddenly slowed down and my smile faded when I saw my wife's clothes scattered on the floor together with her underwear. And when I move around my eyes even more, I and my knees immediately felt weak, when I just saw a man's pair of clothes and underwear on the floor which I'm sure is not mine.

Even though I was already struggling to walk, I still forced myself to move towards the door of our room and as I got closer and closer, the noises coming from my wife and my room didn't escape my ears.

My left hand was already shaking because of fear and extreme nervousness as I slowly reached for the doorknob and even though there are already so many scenarios running through my mind right now, I am still hoping and praying inside my head that those are all wrong but when I finally opened the door of our bedroom, the things that I am holding just fell on the floor as my world collapse and as my heart broke.

I can't believe what I am seeing right now right in front of me. The corner of my eyes quickly pooled with tears as my heart felt like it was being stabbed repeatedly.

I thought that I would surprise my wife for our wedding anniversary but the opposite happened because I was the one who got surprised, seeing my wife in our own bed moving on top of a man, naked as she moaned as if it was already the end of the world.
