10. Congratulation

Grandmother slowly glanced at Matthew sharply. Although this woman was no longer young, her body language and influence were elegant and firm. No one dared to go against her.

“Grandmother, don't listen to her. This was all an accident,” Matthew said suddenly.

Grandma glanced at Danny and pointed a stick at him. This stick symbolized Grandma's strength; despite her age, Victoria Huxley had no problems with her bones.

“Are you feeling great already? You've been living in the Huxley family all this time, and now you want to bring the family down?” Grandma asked.

Danny lowered Grandma's cane slowly, then stepped closer to the old woman with a faint smile. “I've been eating, drinking, and sleeping at the Huxley home for three years. For three years, I have also served the Huxley family without ever taking a day off; I also respect and submit to all members of the Huxley family without exception.”

Danny paused, let out a long breath, and said, “That's why I didn't promise you not to prolong Matthew's troubles as long as you let Laura and I divorce.”

“Do you think I can negotiate with you?” asked Grandma as she tapped her cane again.

Danny shrugged and smiled sarcastically. “No problem with that. As long as you're prepared to take all the risks.”

Grandma then paused and began to think. 'Whether or not Matthew was framed by Danny, Matthew's fingerprints were there. If this matter goes to the police, Matthew won't be safe. He will still get a custodial sentence, which will certainly affect the Huxley family's economy. I can't let this happen; the Huxley family's good name must be preserved.'

Grandma glanced sarcastically at Danny again, 'How cunning of him. Using this to get away from the Huxley family.' Grandmother snorted again, 'Never mind if he wants a divorce, let him have it; what can he do without the Huxley family.'

This time, Grandmother slowly tapped her cane and said, “As you all know, Danny was married off to Laura by my late husband. In fact, Danny has always been a son-in-law living with our family. Now that my husband is gone, shouldn't this marriage contract no longer be valid?”

Grandma then turned to Laura and faced the guests again, “For the past three years, my granddaughter has never felt happiness in her marriage, has never been provided for, and has only brought shame to the family.” Grandma took a long breath and said, “I think three years of this was very hard for Laura. Several times, Laura's parents even asked me to agree to their daughter's divorce, but I never did out of respect for my husband's decision.”

Grandmother looked around again and said. “Today, Danny spread bad news about my granddaughter and her business colleagues. He also beat up my grandson. I don't know what will happen next if he remains in the Huxley family. What else would this man do? So, I decided to no longer abide by the decision made by my late husband. As of today, I approve the divorce between Laura and Danny!”

“As of today, Danny is no longer part of the Huxley family, and he has no right to live or use the Huxley family's facilities! He is also prohibited from taking anything out of the Huxley house!” Grandmother exclaimed as she tapped her cane a few times like a judge tapping her gavel after making a decision.

Everyone in the room seemed happy with this decision. Today, Laura Huxley, the most beautiful woman in the Northern Coastal, was a widow. Many single men would chase after her after this.

“Hmm,” Danny replied with a smile.

“Congratulations, Laura, Mrs. Huxley!” one of the guests exclaimed.

“Congratulations, Mrs. Huxley. You're finally free from the parasite in your house!” exclaimed another.

One by one, the guests cheered and congratulated Laura on her divorce. The single guests thought they would get a chance to marry or at least date Laura.

Michelle then cleared her throat and brought the congratulatory cheers to a halt. “Before that, I would like to tell you all.” Michelle paused and said, “That in the three years they were married, Danny never touched Laura. During their marriage, they slept separately, Danny in the former barn at the back, while Laura continued to sleep in her room on the second floor. So, I can confirm that to this day, Laura is chaste. Her and Danny's marriage is just a note on paper; there has been no marital relationship for the past three years.”

Laura looked down and smiled shyly. She nudged her mother's arm and whispered, “Mom, don't say this. I'm so embarrassed.”

“Never mind, it's better if they all know about it. That way, you're still the most desirable woman in town,” Michelle retorted.

Laura, who was still blushing, looked up slowly, and at that moment, several men seemed to be glancing at her. On the other hand, Danny smiled fiercely and thought, 'Huh! What kind of mothers would casually say this in public. Can't they keep their own daughter's honor?'

The congratulations continued, and one of the guests even got closer to them and dared to approach Laura to ask her out on a date. Tom Harold had the Huxley family's biggest support at the time.

“Tom, you're very generous, but for our family's reputation, you should go on a date after Laura gets the divorce certificate. After that, you two can date for as long as you want. Trust me, you have the support of the Huxley family to approach my daughter,” Anthony said as he patted Tom on the shoulder.

Tom nodded, “I'll wait, Laura's beauty is worth the wait.”
