Chapter 6

The velvet curtains of the Imperial VIP Suite offered a panoramic view of the glittering auction hall below, but Liam barely looked down at the ocean of diamonds and designer gowns.

He sat on a plush leather sofa, gently smoothing his daughter’s hair as she quietly ate a gold-dusted pastry.

A sharp, demanding knock broke the quiet. Before the private guard could clear the entry, the doors burst open.

Sandra marched in, her silk dress rustling aggressively. Her cheeks were flushed with a mixture of rage, embarrassment, and deep denial. She swept her eyes across the crystal chandeliers, the butler service, and finally landed on Liam, her expression contorting into pure disgust.

"I knew it!"Sandra sneered, taking swift, heavy strides toward him. "Look at you, sitting here acting like you actually belong in a room like this! Did you really think you could fool me, Liam?"

Liam did not even bother to stand up. He casually picked up a porcelain tea cup, taking a slow sip. "You should be in the nosebleed balcony,Sandra. Security is surprisingly lax tonight."

"Shut up!" she snapped, her manicured nail pointing inches from his face. "You think you're clever, don't you? Running around with some stolen or rented Diamond Pass, pretending to be the Patriarch! I spoke to the executives downstairs, Liam. A church rat like you couldn't afford a single square foot of this carpet! You are obviously just a paid body double! A hired front man for the realBlackwoods Consortium Patriarch to draw away security risks!"

Liam set his teacup down with a soft click, a pitying smirk playing on his lips. "A body double?"

"Yes! A human shield!"Sandra laughed bitterly,Blackwoods ing her arms. "It’s so obvious! The real Patriarch probably paid you a couple thousand dollars to sit here, wear a nice suit, and take the attention off him. And you, in your desperate, pathetic little mind, decided to use his temporary access to try and embarrass me at the front doors!"

She stepped closer, her voice dropping into an urgent, manipulative hiss.

"Listen to me carefully, Liam. Stop playing this foolish game before you get yourself killed or thrown back into a cell. Since you somehow have the butler's ear right now, use this temporary access to do something useful for once in your miserable life. Introduce my company to the Blackwoods Consortium board tonight. If you sign over our corporate contract to their representatives before the auction ends, I might actually consider letting you visit Lily on weekends!"

Liam looked at her, his eyes cold enough to freeze blood. "You truly are unbelievable,Sandra. You insult my dead grandfather, you let your lover drop trash on the floor for me to sweep, you stand by while your mother throws me in jail, and now you come here to beg for a corporate miracle?"

"I am not begging!"Sandra shrieked, her face twisting into something utterly vile. "I am giving you a chance to be a man! You owe me, Liam! You lived off my charity for three whole years! You ate my food, you slept under my roof, and you gave me nothing in return except housemaid work! The least you can do after ruining my reputation downstairs is give my company the Consortium connection!"

"Your company?" Liam said softly, leaning back. "You built that enterprise on my strategies while treating me like a trash can. You have nothing,Sandra. And after tonight, you will realize just how empty your hands really are."

"You arrogant, ungrateful parasite!"Sandra screamed, raising her hand as if to slap him across the face.

Before her palm could connect, two massive, dark-suited guards stepped out from the shadows, grabbing her wrists with iron grips and forcing her backward out of the suite.

"Get your filthy hands off me!"Sandra yelled, her voice echoing down the corridor as she was dragged back toward the public halls. "Liam, you will regret this! You are nothing! Just a dead man's homeless son!"

Down in the main auditorium, the atmosphere was already thick with tension. The lower seats were packed with global billionaires, while the back nosebleed section held the disgraced guest list—including Julian, whose face was still bright red from the red carpet humiliation.

Just as Liam descended the private VIP elevator holding Lily's hand to take his official place for the main bidding, the heavy double doors of the auction hall were blasted open with a deafening crash.

A squad of heavily armed state police officers flooded the floor, guns drawn, sweeping the room. Walking right down the center aisle was a heavy-set man in a tailored political suit, his chest puffed out with corrupt authority.

It was Governor Thomas—Julian’s father.

"Nobody move!" the Governor boomed, his voice carrying through the public address speakers. "This auction is officially under state investigation!"

Julian scrambled down from the balcony seats, a triumphant, wicked grin spreading across his face as he ran to his father's side. "Dad! Over there! That’s the fraudster!"

Julian pointed a shaking, enraged finger directly at Liam.

"Governor!" Julian announced loudly to the entire room of terrified billionaires. "That man is Liam! He is a broke, unemployed church rat who escaped police custody this morning! He stole a Diamond VIP Pass and is attempting to use fake credit lines to seize state-protected treasures, including the Black Diamond Jade Ring!"

Governor Thomas sneered, signaling his armed officers forward. "Seize that man immediately! Under state emergency protocols, all high-tier historical artifacts present tonight, including the Black Diamond Jade, are hereby confiscated by my office! And this imposter will be tried for high treason and financial fraud!"

Celia, who had just stumbled back into the main hall, cheered loudly from the sidelines, her eyes glittering with malice. "Lock him up! Show him what happens when a beggar steals a prince's clothes!"

Liam stood completely still in the middle of the aisle, holding his daughter close. He didn't flinch as ten loaded rifles were pointed at his chest.

"Governor Thomas," Liam said, his voice ringing out dead calm across the silent room. "You are using state police forces to execute a personal vendetta for your son. Do you have any idea whose hall you just invaded?"

"Shut your mouth, you filthy orphan!" Julian barked, stepping up beside his father. "My father is the supreme executive authority of this entire state! His word is law! Your little stunt ends right now!"

Governor Thomas waved his hand dismissively to his chief officer. "Escort this fraudster away. But don't put him in a cell just yet. I want him to watch us take the Black Diamond Jade Ring with his own eyes."

The chief officer, sneering, walked up to Liam and grabbed his shoulder roughly. He dragged Liam toward the very back corner of the grand auditorium, right beside the emergency exits and the trash receptacles.

There, sitting isolated in the dark, dusty corner of the room, was a single, old, broken wooden chair with a cracked leg and peeling paint.

"Sit down, church rat!" the officer spat, shoving Liam violently into the creaky wooden seat. "The Governor has declared that this is the only seat fit for a trash can like you! Try to stand up, and my men will put a bullet through your knee!"

Julian walked over, leaning down until his mocking face was inches from Liam's.

"Look at you now!" Julian laughed hysterically, his voice echoing over the quieted crowd. "Where is your Diamond Pass now, huh? Where is your big talk about one million dollars? You are sitting on a broken piece of firewood at the trash exit where you belong! Once my father takes the ring, you are going back to a dark cell, and I am going to make sure you rot there for the rest of your pathetic life!"

Celia walked up right behind Julian,Blackwoods ing her arms and looking down at Liam with pure, unadulterated contempt.

"You brought this on yourself, Liam,"Sandra said coldly, shaking her head in utter disgust. "I gave you a chance to be useful in the suite, and you chose to be arrogant. Look at yourself. A beggar on a broken wooden chair. You truly are the biggest mistake of my life."

Liam sat on the creaking wooden chair, his face completely devoid of fear. A cold, dark smile slowly spread across his lips as he looked up at the three of them.

"Enjoy your little moment," Liam whispered, his eyes flashing with lethal promise. "Because when the bidding starts... every single one of you will fall on your knees right in front of this broken chair."

Inside, on the plush leather couch, Sandra was completely unbothered by the surroundings. The surrounding billionaires, already stressed by the sudden presence of federal agents and the freezing of state funds, began to panic. To them, the sudden collapse of authority was terrifying. If the Governor could fall in seconds, none of their fortunes were safe. "He's a fraud! The whole thing is a scam!" Julian screamed again, his eyes bloodshot, his hair completely disheveled as he pointed wildly at Liam. "Look at him! He's using fake federal papers to rob us! If we let him leave with that ring, this entire city's economy will collapse!" "He's right!" a high-ranking regional director shouted from the third row, standing up in a panic. A collective gasp ran through the sea of wealthy attendees. Millionaires, foreign investors, and local aristocrats leaned forward in their soft velvet seats, their eyes wide with greed. The chief auctioneer adjusted his silk tie and tapped his wooden gavel against the podium. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the crown jewel of tonight's event. The historic Black Diamond Jade Ring. Bidding for this priceless masterpiece will start at ten million dollars." Before anyone else could raise a paddle, Julian stood up right from the central VIP row.
