The smell of blood was everywhere, it coated the marble floors of the Crimson palace in the vampire kingdom, the walls were stained and my clothes were soaked in blood. My breaths were ragged as I staggered through the throne room leaving footprints stained with blood behind.

Bodies littered the ground, the guards, servants, royal knights, mom, dad, and my sister, all dead. The sight of their body should have shattered me, instead I felt numb maybe because the pain had become too much, or because I knew I wasn't leaving this place alive.

Tonight was meant to be the happiest day of my life, I was meant to be coronated to officially become vampire prince and the heir to the crimson throne.

Instead it had become my funeral.

The massive doors behind me burst open, I slowly turned and three familiar figures entered. My heart clenched, but because I was afraid, but because these were the people I trusted more than anyone

Adrian Ravencroft my best friend, heir to the werewolf kingdoms throne.

Lyra Evermoon a noble in the vampire kingdom the woman I thought I’d spend the rest of my life with.

And advisor Duskbane the man who trained me and thought me everything I know now.

For a moment I felt relieved “they’re alive” I whispered. Then I saw the blood on Adrian’s sword, the smile on Duskbane’s face and the blood on Lyra’s hand. Something inside me went cold,

“No…”

Adrian looked away, Lyra refused to look at me, only Duskbane smiled…a calm satisfied smile, the smile of a man who is plans had finally succeeded. Then I finally understood, it wasn’t an enemy kingdom, it wasn’t assassins, it was them.

“Why?” I asked

Duskbane folded his hands behind his back, “Because a king is only useful until a better opportunity appears”

I stared, unable to believe what I was hearing.

“You murdered my family”

“Our family” Duskbane corrected

Rage exploded inside me, my eyes glowing as vampiric energy surged inside me. The floor beneath me cracked “you traitorous…”. Then I lunged, but I was too slow pain erupted through my whole body. And then I froze, a silver blade protruded through my chest, then I looked down then at Lyra.

Tears filled her icy blue eyes, yet her grip on the sword didn’t waver. For a moment no one spoke or moved, the entire world seemed to stop.

“Lyra…” my voice cracked

Then she lowered her head “I’m sorry”, her voice cracked

The words hurt more than the blade, I felt something break inside me, not my heart but my trust, love and future. Adrian finally stepped forward, guilt flashed across his face. But he didn’t stop Lyra, didn’t help me, didn’t save me, he just stood there. The same way everyone had.

I laughed loudly and a hollow sound came out of me “so this is how it ends?”

No one answered me, blood filled my mouth, my legs gave out and the throne room floor rushed towards me. As the darkness closed in, my gaze landed on the crimson throne, the throne I would never wear. Hatred filled me, if there was another life, if fate gave me another chance, I would make them pay every single one of them.

Then darkness swallowed me whole.

I gasped, my eyes flew open. The first thing I noticed was the bright sunlight, for several seconds I simply stared, confused, disoriented, and alive. Slowly I sat upright my heart pounded, my chest, no wound, no silver blade, no blood.

Nothing!

“What…?”

My voice sounded younger, and stronger. I frowned, the room I was in felt too familiar. Dark wooden furniture, a large desk, black curtains and a blackthorn academy uniform hung beside a wardrobe. My breath caught, impossible I threw the blankets aside and rushed towards the mirror.

The reflection staring back at me made me stumble, eighteen I looked eighteen again, not twenty three, not the heir who died in a pool of blood, a seventeen year old student at blackthorn academy. Shock flooded through me, disbelief, then realization.

“No…”

I grabbed the edge of the dresser, “this isn’t possible”.

A sharp knock interrupted my thoughts, exactly three knocks my eyes widened, I knew that knock. I remembered it perfectly, because it happened every morning during my years at the academy.

“Kael”. A familiar voice called from outside

“Get up before we’re late!”

The world seemed to stop, Adrian. My pulse thundered in my ears, Adrian was outside, alive. My best friend, the person who betrayed me, my hands clenched into a fist memories flooded back. All the laughters, brotherhood, trust, then blood so much blood.

“Kael!”

Another knock, “are you sleeping or dead?”

The irony almost made me laugh, dead…I had been dead, yet somehow I was here. Back in the past at blackthorn academy, five years before the massacre in the crimson kingdom, before everything went wrong. A cold smile crossed my face.

Fate had given me another chance, this time things would be different. This time time I wouldn’t be manipulated or killed, and I would discover why I was betrayed. Then the knock came again.

“Kael?” He sounded concerned

“You okay in there?”

I stared at the door, a thousand emotions mixed inside me. Slowly I walked towards the door, one step at a time, the moment my hand touched the handle a strange sensation washed over me. My instincts screamed danger!.

For reasons I couldn’t explain, I turned towards the window and froze. Standing beneath a tree in the academy courtyard was a girl. Aurora Vale, she wasn’t looking at the academy, or the students, she was staring directly at me.

The moment our eyes met, her face lost color as though she had seen a ghost. Then to my horror tears filled her eyes, and her lips formed four words I couldn’t possibly hear. Yet somehow I knew exactly what she had said.

“You’re alive this time”

The blood drained from my face, because there was only one reason Aurora would say something like that. Only one reason.

He wasn’t the only one who had been reborn.

  • Training Begins

Morning arrived wrapped in mist. For the first time in what felt like weeks, Blackthorn Academy woke without screams echoing through its halls, no bells signaling another murder, no terrified students crowding the courtyards, and no professors rushing toward another crime scene. The silence should have been comforting, instead, it felt unnatural, like the academy itself was holding its breath. I stood on the balcony outside my dormitory, my crimson eyes fixed on the mountains beyond the academy walls. The mark on my throat had faded to a dull crimson overnight, but I could still feel it beneath my skin, pulsing slowly with every heartbeat. It hadn’t spoken to me again, I heard no voices, had no dreams, it was just silence. I wasn’t sure whether to be relieved or disappointed.“You’ve been standing there for nearly an hour.”Aurora’s gentle voice broke through my thoughts, I didn’t bother turning around.“I know.”“You also skipped breakfast.”“I know.”“And you’ve been

  • The Echoes Within Kael

I jolted awake, my breathing came in ragged bursts as cold sweat clung to my skin. Moonlight poured through the windows of my room, casting pale streaks across the floor. The mark on my throat burned, it was not painful, but it was just enough to remind me it was there. I pressed two fingers against it and closed my eyes. The voice still echoed inside my mind, “the seal is broken.” It was not loud, or threatening, it was simply… waiting. I climbed out of bed and walked to the balcony. The academy grounds lay silent beneath the moon, as though nothing had happened over the past several days. There were no screams, blood, and no monsters. Yet I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching me, and it was someone ancient, and patient.“…Who are you?” I whispered into the night.Only silence answered. Morning arrived with unusual calm. The temporary seal beneath Blackthorn had stabilized the academy enough for classes to resume, though the atmosphere remained ten

  • A Temporary Seal

The skeletal hand tightened around my throat, as crimson fire crawled up my neck. My body slammed against the broken altar, the impact cracking stone beneath me. The hand was impossibly cold despite the flames burning around it. I clawed at the wrist, but it didn’t move, the thing inside the altar began pulling itself free. A skull crowned in jagged black iron, with hollow eye sockets burning crimson. It was The First King, though not fully yet, but it was enough to terrify everyone in the sanctum. Aurora acted first, silver chains of witchlight shot forward, wrapping around the arm. The creature hissed, then Lyra followed, frost magic erupting from her hands, freezing the skeletal limb, it’s grip loosened. I tore myself free instantly and stumbled backward, coughing. Adrian pushed himself off the floor, blood dripping from his mouth.“What in hells is that?”The headmaster face had gone pale.“The First King.”Adrian blinked. “That’s supposed to stay buried.”I wiped blo

  • The First King?

The academy shook, as stone split apart beneath their feet, students screamed as the ground cracked open through the central courtyard, ancient red light pouring from the depths below Blackthorn. The roar came again, and it was louder this time, closer. I stood motionless, crimson energy still burning around me, my veins glowed beneath my skin. The crown-shaped mark on my throat pulsed like it was alive. I could still feel Elias’s blood, even after his death. I could feel everybody’s own. Hundreds of heartbeats, hundreds of veins pumping beneath flesh, every single drop. And It felt overwhelming. Aurora grabbed my wrist.“Kael.” Her voice cut through the noise, my burning eyes flickered toward her. But her touch steadied me, it made the rage inside me quiet, it barely made an effect but it felt enough. Headmaster Alaric stepped forward, his expression grim.“Come with me. Now.” I didn’t move, because the thing beneath the academy roared again. Students started evacu

  • The Primordial Bloodline Awakens

The blood-red circle beneath my feet ignited. Ancient symbols blazed across the cracked archive floor like veins of fire, spreading outward in violent pulses. The heat hit instantly, Aurora stumbled back.“Kael!” My body locked, pain shot through my chest. It wasn’t physical, it was something deeper, something buried. The air around me thickened, pressing down with unbearable force. My veins burned, the symbols beneath me pulsed brighter. My name glowed at the center, not “Kael Draven,” it was something older, something that was written beneath it. Aurora’s eyes widened as she saw it, a second name, one I couldn’t understand, a language that was long dead. Then, the circle shattered, I dropped to one knee, gasping, as blood spilled from my mouth onto the floor. Aurora rushed to me, then her hands grabbed my shoulders.“Kael…look at me.” My ruby eyes flickered wildly, for a moment they glowed gold, then silver, then black, every bloodline, every power, before settling ba

  • Lyra isn’t Dead

For one terrible second, the world stopped, I stood frozen in the corridor, staring at Adrian, blood covered the stone floor, blood stained Adrian’s hands. And Lyra lay motionless at his feet, a blade buried in her chest. Around us, students screamed, some backed away, others stood frozen in shock. Aurora’s grip tightened around my arm.“Kael” But I was already moving, I shoved through the crowd and dropped beside Lyra, her skin was too pale, but my sharp hearing caught it, a heartbeat, it was weak and faint, but it was there. She was alive.“Move!” I barked. A professor rushed forward, then another, I yanked the blade from Lyra’s chest, ignoring the blood spilling over his hands. Aurora immediately knelt beside me, silver light bursting from her palms, healing magic, the wound began closing, but slowly. I looked up, Adrian still hadn’t moved, he looked… broken, and confused. As though he didn’t understand how he got here. Then I grabbed him by the collar.“What did you do?”
