An Unexpected Alliance

The sound of explosions on the horizon still left tremors running through the base floor when the front steel door was forced open. Siska immediately raised her staff, but Rian stopped her arm with a slow motion.

"Kenzo," Rian murmured. His deep red eyes fixed on the figure stepping inside with heavy strides. The leader of Elite Vanguard looked like the remnants of fading glory, his once gleaming armor now marred by deep scratches and dried bloodstains.

"You look pathetic, Rian," Kenzo said, his breathing strained. "A lot of people say you’ve become a god. But all I see is a cripple who’s gone half mad from swallowing the wrong code."

"And you?" Rian forced himself to stand upright, even as his crippled leg trembled violently. "Where is that glorified elite force of yours? Where is the government you defended so proudly?"

Kenzo clenched his fists until his iron gauntlets creaked. "They’re dead, Rian. Erased in seconds when that pillar of light appeared. Now all I have left are people who want to survive, and they’re outside, freezing."

"Then why are you here?" Siska cut in sharply, her eyes narrowing with suspicion. "Last week you threatened to execute us for violating system law. Now you’re knocking on our door?"

"Because he has no other choice," Rian replied, his voice layered with a faint digital frequency. "Kenzo needs a ride, and he knows I’m the only one with access to this machine."

"Don’t get arrogant!" Kenzo lunged forward, grabbing Rian by the collar with what strength he had left. "Global authority? Claiming all players? You’re acting like a tyrant, Rian! You destroyed the structure we worked so hard to build to maintain order!"

"That structure collapsed the moment the first World Boss appeared, Kenzo! And you still want to play politics while the owners of this system are stepping into the arena?" Rian did not resist physically, but the red glow in his eyes made Kenzo recoil with a fear he had never felt before.

"Owners? What do you mean?" Kenzo frowned, his anger giving way to confusion.

"They didn’t come to attack. They came to harvest," Rian said, pointing toward the hole in the ceiling. "That signal we just sent was a dinner bell for whatever is out there."

Silence fell over them for a moment, broken only by the faint hiss of static from the monitors filling the suffocating room.

"If you want to lead, prove to me you’re not just a monster wearing human skin," Kenzo whispered hoarsely. "I won’t bow to this insane system. I’ll only follow a leader who can guarantee my people won’t die for nothing."

Suddenly, the entire base shook violently. This time, a mechanical voice so immense it seemed to vibrate inside their bones echoed through the empty air.

System Notification: Signal Verified. Harvest Procedure Initiated.

New World Quest: Species Qualification Trial, Phase One.

Objective: Survive the Purge Wave for 24 hours.

Requirement: Minimum Alliance of Two Major Factions Detected.

Failure Consequence: Permanent Planetary Data Deletion.

Siska stared at the screen, her face pale. "Rian... Kenzo... the system is forcing us to work together or we all get erased."

Rian turned to Kenzo and extended his still trembling hand, glowing deep red. "Ego or existence, Kenzo? Choose now, before this world truly becomes history."

Kenzo looked at the hand, then at the frightened remnants of his forces behind him. With visible reluctance, he took Rian’s hand. The moment their palms touched, a burst of golden light exploded in the center of the room, marking the formation of humanity’s first official alliance.

But the relief lasted only a second. Outside, the red sky turned completely dark as thousands of black ships broke through the clouds, dropping thousands of metal capsules across the city.

"They’re here," Rian whispered, as the system at the corner of his vision began counting down in bleeding red numbers.

00:59:59... 00:59:58...

"Siska, get everyone ready!" Rian commanded, staring at the horizon now filled with massive shadows. "This fight is no longer about who’s the strongest... it’s about who is allowed to exist!"

A dense gray digital fog swallowed the heart of Jakarta, turning the skyscrapers into flickering silhouettes, breaking apart like corrupted pixels. Rian walked forward slowly, the drag of his left foot muffled by the static hiss saturating the air. Behind him, Siska gripped her staff so tightly her knuckles turned white.“Rian, my mana sensor is going haywire. This place... it doesn’t feel like the real world anymore,” Siska whispered, her voice trembling.“Stay behind me, Siska. This is the Dead Zone mentioned in that manifesto. A point where the laws of physics and system logic overlap in a rough collision,” Rian replied without looking back. His left eye, glowing blue, spun rapidly, processing streams of code that flowed through the air like inverted rain.“But look at that!” Siska pointed at the wreckage of a car floating calmly three meters above the ground. It slowly unraveled into strings of hexadecimal numbers before reassembling into a warped shape. “Why would the system allo
