The next day, Aiden tried to avoid everyone in the house, some of the people who he unfortunately came across gave him strange looks and threw harsh comments at him but he was completely indifferent about this, ignoring their words and trying not to act on his emotions.

He knew that something was brewing and decided to go with the flow of things. He spent the day in his daughter’s room, telling her stories and playing with her, he only left when he had to get breakfast and lunch for the both of them which led to encounters with Amelia’s cousins.

“Look who’s here?” A young boy in his teens laughed boisterously and extended his arm out, blocking Aiden as he was stepping out of the kitchen. “So you are Aiden, my cousin’s husband?” His tone was condescending.

“I am. Liam A good dog doesn’t  block the path, if there’s  nothing else, please step aside.”

“How dare you speak to me that way, you are nothing but my family’s servant.” Liam leaned forward, wanting to mock him more but this was his mistake.

Aiden grabbed one of Liam’s wrist, and pulled him towards him with all of his might, with his other hand, he placed the switchblade he was holding on Liam’s neck, the blade was sharp enough to cause a lot of damage if Aiden slightly moved his hand.

“Wha-what ar-are are you do-doing?” Liam’s face was filled with fear, he felt the cold blade on his neck and instantly lost the ability to speak clearly.

“What do you think I’m doing? If I just mistakenly lose control, I could slash your neck and cause you to bleed.” Aiden coldly whispered to him..

“No- le-let me go.” Liam started pleading, he didn’t  want to lose his life. At this moment, Ruby Reyes, Aiden’s mother in law appeared and Liam screamed like his life depended on it. “Aunt!!”

“What the hell are you doing bastard?! Drop the knife this instant!” Ruby ordered, there was a flicker of fear in her eyes and her voice was a little shaky. No doubt that she was scared too.

Aiden involuntary pushed Liam away. “I would not be so merciful next time.” His tone was frigid.

As soon as he was released, Liam instantly rushed behind Ruby. “Aunt, he tried to kill me. He is dangerous.” He could still feel the cold blade against his neck and touched his neck a few times for any injury. Liam shuddered at how close he was to death.

“How dare you try to hurt my nephew? Have you gone nuts!”

“Mother-”

“Do not call me mother! I don’t  have a son like you. You are nothing but a lowlife living off my family.”

“I apologize.” Aiden said.

Fearing that he might do the worst with the blade that he was still holding, Ruby grabbed Liam by the hand and left. Before leaving, Liam glared at Aiden, placing his hand against his neck and dragging it across. This was an open threat but Aiden was not bothered.

“Aunt, are we just going to let him keep living here, what if he tries to harm me again?” Liam complained as soon as they were out of Aiden’s sight.

“He wouldn’t, you don’t have to worry. Let Amelia return, that lowlife would be out of here faster than he could spell his name.” She patted his head as she reassured him. “He must have given you such a fright, don’t worry, Auntie would make it up to you.” Liam was her sister’s son and favorite nephew so she treated him like her son, pampering him like a son so she was worried that he might have been traumatized by Aiden’s actions.

Amelia didn’t return to the house until the next evening, she was brimming with happiness, an expression that has been lost from her face for the past five years. The smile on her face completely disappeared when she found out about what Aiden had done to Liam. Liam had twisted the story, changing black to white, making himself look like the victim.

Of course Amelia believed him, before she could even go looking for him, Aiden appeared before her and she slapped him. “How dare you! How dare you raise your filthy hand on my cousin? Are you crazy?” She yelled at him.

Aiden didn’t react to the slap, he was already expecting her outburst that was the reason he stepped out of his daughter’s room, he didn’t want her to witness such a scene. “I think you should ask your cousin what truly happened?” He threw a glance at Liam who was standing close by, Liam shrunk backwards, trying to reduce his presence.

Amelia’s voice had caused the rest of the family to gather, her grandfather had showed up with an indifferent expression on his face, her cousins and aunt appeared as they didn’t want to miss such drama and her parents were there to support her.

“Irrespective of what he had done, you shouldn’t  have held a knife to his neck, what if you mistakenly hurt him? How can you be so heartless!”

“Me? Heartless? Says the woman who treats her own daughter like her enemy and flirts around despite the fact that she’s married, you don’t have any right to lecture me, you are not qualified.”

His words stung her but she casts it aside and brought out a document, pushing it at him. “Sign it,” At first glance, the words DIVORCE AGREEMENT was boldly written and at the end of it, Amelia’s  signature could be seen. “Don’t worry you get to keep that spawn of yours.” She was referring to Zia.

Upon hearing that, Aiden was slightly relieved, Zia was the most important person to him and he didn’t want to relinquish custody of her knowing that she won’t be taken care of by the Reyes family. He didn’t  waste any more time and immediately signed the document.

“Now, get out of my house.. immediately.”

They raised banners not in fear, but in reverence—for the man who had returned from ashes to reclaim his destiny.Beside him stood Silvana, their newborn in her arms, Zia holding tightly to her mother’s gown. Their presence was not just symbolic—it was the reminder that everything he had fought for was flesh and blood, family and future. And then, through the great doors of the hall, came Lorenzo. The old man’s steps were slow, yet steady. His eyes glistened with unshed tears as he carried in his weathered hands the mantle of the Romanovs—the ancient crest that had symbolized the family’s domi

Tonight was destiny.Behind him, Silvana held their newborn in her arms, Zia clutching tightly at her side. Though they remained in the safety of the hunters’ village, their presence fueled his resolve. Aiden whispered only once before leaving: “I return not as a ghost, not as a broken man,but as your shield.”The time had come to reclaim what was stolen. The hunters moved in disciplined formations, their chants echoing like thunder through the valley. Alongside them marched allies, families who had once been loyal to Romanovs but had abandoned Zain after his tyranny drove them to ruin. Every banner that rose bore the same symbol: not Zain’s crest, but Aiden’s.

  • Chapter 225 – The Trap and the Strike

The Romanov mansion had never felt colder to Bryden. Not because of the marble floors or the iron-boned windows, but because of the suffocating silence that came with Zain’s suspicion. Every servant’s glance lingered too long. Every guard’s step echoed like a warning.Bryden sat in the drawing room one late evening, the firelight flickering across his sharp features. He pretended to be absorbed in a book, but his mind was racing. He knew Zain was onto him. The man had ruled empires with paranoia as his compass; nothing slipped past him for long. And then it came, summons from his grandfather.Zain sat in the great chamber, a room adorned with relics of power: old banners, portraits of forefathers, and gilded trinkets stolen from fallen rivals. He looked every inch the emperor, though the lines around his eyes betrayed a man gnawed at by time and desperation.“Bryden,” he said, his voice silk over steel. “You’ve been… busy.”Bryden bowed his head. “I serve you, as always, Grandfather.”

lThe Romanov mansion was too quiet. The kind of quiet that wasn’t peace but surveillance, as if every wall had grown eyes and every shadow whispered. Bryden had lived here long enough to know when he was being hunted—even if it was subtle, even if no blade had touched his throat yet.He sat at his desk, pretending to study old family records. His pen hovered above the paper, unmoving. His reflection in the polished glass of the cabinet across the room showed more than just his tired face—it revealed the faint flicker of movement at the corner of the doorway. They’re watching me.Zain was tightening his grip. Bryden could feel it in the shift of footsteps that lingered longer in the corridors, in the way guards who once ignored his comings and goings now greeted him with sharp nods and unblinking eyes. He left the mansion at night, but he never felt alone. He knew he was being shadowed, yet every time he turned, there was nothing. He clenched his fist. A mistake now could expose everyt

The Romanov mansion no longer felt like a home it had become a fortress under siege, ruled by suspicion. Zain sat at the head of the long mahogany table, his eyes shadowed by the dim light of the chandelier above. His posture was rigid, his fingers drumming against the polished surface as two of his trusted men stood before him. They had returned from the night’s duty—watching Bryden. “Tell me everything,” Zain’s voice cut through the silence like a sharpened blade. One of the men, a tall, scarred figure named Mikhail, bowed his head. “Sir, as instructed, we shadowed Bryden after he left the estate last night. He took the northern route, alone. No escorts, no explanation. He disappeared into the outskirts of the city for nearly two hours before returning.” Zain’s lips curled into something between a sneer and a smile. “And where exactly did he go?” The second man hesitated before answering. “We… could not follow too closely.
