The nurse gave him an apologetic look. “I’m so sorry but there’s nothing I can do about it.”

“Is this your hospital policy? That anyone who comes here should be refused treatment?” Aiden’s  face was expressionless but on the inside he was breaking. He glanced at his daughter who was still unconscious and pale in his arms, clearly she was in a lot of pain. “Please do something, I can foot the bills.”

“Are you sure about that?” A familiar person said in a sarcastic tone of voice, Caspian returned with a smirk on his face. “Do you think you’ll be able to pay for your daughter’s treatment now that you have no money?”

Aiden was itching to throw a punch at him to wipe the sarcastic smile off his face but he restrained himself. “What did you do?”

“Nothing much, just spoke to some people here, that’s all,” Then he burst into laughter. “Do you think I was simply going to let you off after what you did, it’s unfortunate that it’s a little girl’s life that’s on the line now. Tsk.”

“I would take my leave now.” The nurse gave Aiden a sympathetic look and shot a dirty look at Caspian when he wasn’t looking before she left.

Aiden clenched his fist, knowing that it was a lost cause, he turned around, prepared to leave with his daughter. Instead of arguing with Caspian, he found it much more productive to go to a different hospital.

Caspian stood with a smug expression on his face, his stance was full of arrogance but as he saw Aiden leaving, he grew confused for a second. “Hey? Where are you going?”

Four people arrived in front of Aiden, preventing him from leaving. “Yes where are you going?”

“Big brother Caspian has not given you the permission to leave.”

“You have to apologize.”

“Yes, if you want to get your daughter treated here.” They all said one after the other, it was evident from their behavior that they were Caspian’s friends or… lackeys was a fitting word.

“What is the meaning of this, Caspian?”

“Why don’t you grovel on the floor and apologize to this young master and with just a simple phone call from me, everything would be sorted out. Good right?”

“Yes!” The four men echoed simultaneously. “Big brother Caspian is magnanimous.”

“Yes, he has a big heart, he respects the elderly and loves the young.”

“And what if I say no, huh?” Aiden turned around with a strange smile on his face. “What are you going to do to me?”

Caspian felt a shudder run down his spine, before he could respond, the same nurse from earlier showed up. “Please I’m going to have to ask you all to leave, no infighting is allowed in the hospital.”

Aiden leaned closer to Caspian who was still stunned. “I would take my leave now, Caspian but I’m going to warn you all to watch your backs because I would beat you up so bad that even the devil would weep on your behalf,” He pulled back with a smile on his face. “I wish you all a lovely day.”

Caspian was still frozen on the spot, his lackeys could only watch as Aiden walked away with his daughter, no one made any move to stop him. After a while, Caspian broke out of the trance he was stuck in. “Let us go.”

Few minutes later, a figure appeared behind the nurse and muttered. “Hey, what are you looking at?”

As the nurse turned around, she was almost stunned silly by the woman before her. “Beautiful,” She said subconsciously.

The woman just giggled lightly with a hand elegantly placed over her mouth but a blush appeared on the nurse cheeks. “Thanks for the compliment.”

One could easily see her neatly trimmed nails that was almost pink, the nurse forced herself to look down, feeling almost inferior compared with beauty standards. “How can I help you?”

“Who was that man earlier?”

“Which of them?”

“The one with the child? What’s wrong with his daughter and why was she refused treatment?”

“The other man must have something against him and he spoke to one of the higher-ups, the rest is as you saw. I was able to check the girl’s vitals before I discharged her. She’s down with a fever, it’s almost critical and it’s worrisome. If she doesn’t get proper treatment, it could be dangerous.” The nurse answered carefully.

A strange look appeared on the other woman’s face, after a moment of silence, she continued. “I need a favor from you.”

Caspian was in a taxi back to his rundown apartment with a worried looking his face, Zia had already regained consciousness but she was still very pale. “Daddy, I’m fine.” She forced a smile on her face.

“I know that sweetie, you are Daddy’s brave girl.” He gently patted her head. Caspian had been a big interference and nuisance, every hospital he went to, Zia was refused treatment but Aiden soon realized that what it took was having connections.

Power.

He clenched on of his fists in his side. ‘All it took was having power, enough to manipulate the fate and lives of others. With enough power, you could control the lives of others on the palm of your hands.’

When they arrived at the apartment, he got out of his taxi with Zia and paid the fare. “Come on, I’ll get you some pain medications for now.”

Zia nodded, she was young but she understood that her father must be dealing with a lot. “Okay.” As they entered the house, no one noticed the car that soon stopped in front of the apartment.

If the nurse from the first hospital that Aiden had went to was present, she would have recognized the driver as the woman who  spoke to her. The woman stepped out of the car with two bags in her hands. She wore glasses and a veil across her face.

The Romanov estate had never felt so quiet, yet so alive with tension. After the shocking return of the red-painted chess knight and the mysterious disappearance of Lorenzo's ancient scroll, the family had been on edge. Power had returned, but its absence had left behind an unmistakable trace whoever had infiltrated the estate hadn’t just come to steal. They came to declare war… with precision. Inside the war room, Harper’s fingers danced across the console keyboard, trying to trace the power anomaly and the ghost signal. It was like chasing a phantom in the fog. No doors had been breached, no surveillance had failed, no physical locks compromised yet the scroll had vanished, and in its place, that crimson-painted symbol of impending war sat mockingly. “Whatever force we’re dealing with,” Harper muttered, “they’re not just tech-savvy they’re ritualistic. Psychological. They want us to be afraid.” Aiden stood at the far window, arms folded. His silhouette loomed in the soft moonli

  • Chapter 166: Symbols in the Silence

The Romanov mansion was quieter than usual, but the silence wasn't peaceful, it was analytical. At the heart of the estate, deep in the strategy room hidden behind the east wing's library, Aiden, Silvana, Lorenzo, Harper, and now Gregory sat huddled around a long table. Projectors threw enlarged images onto the sleek walls. the charred remnants of the vault, a burned insignia, the identical mark found beneath Braise’s holding cell, and now most disturbingly etched in blood on the box that had arrived earlier with the shattered chess knight. The black knight had been a symbol Aiden's father once used in clandestine operations: a move made when negotiations had failed, and power alone remained. But this mark predated all of them. Aiden leaned forward, his voice low and razor-sharp. “You’re certain this symbol has no traceable origin?” Harper crossed his arms. “I’ve gone through every intelligence file, ancient family logs, secret Romanov vaults, even old KGB blacklists. Nothing. But

The Romanov estate was quiet that morning.Birds chirped beyond the frosted windows, the trees lining the courtyard swayed gently in the breeze, and for once, tranquility hung over the estate like a fragile veil. Inside, the staff moved with less urgency. The alarms were off. Harper hadn’t called for a briefing in over a week. The board hadn’t convened. The guards, though present, now walked their rounds without gripping their rifles like lifelines. It had been months since the last wave of crisis. And for Aiden Romanov, peace—even if fragile—was a gift he had no intention of squandering.Bryden was progressing well. The boy had adapted remarkably, now assisting Gregory with operations and strategy updates. Lorenzo often observed him from the balcony, a faint smile playing on his lips. Forgiveness had not come cheaply, but it had come fueled by the boy's quiet perseverance and sincere efforts. But elsewhere... a storm was quietly building. In the shadows of the estate, Amelia crept o

  • CHAPTER 163: The Vault of No Return

The air inside the vault thickened with pressure as the reinforced doors groaned open. Red emergency lighting bathed the chamber in a surreal glow, casting jagged shadows over Zain’s figure as he stepped in. Behind him, Orlov followed slowly, his cybernetic eye scanning the intricate patterns engraved on the chamber walls—symbols of legacy, sacrifice, and blood. They had arrived. The Vault of the First Romanov.Buried deep beneath the estate’s original foundations, the vault was a myth even to most board members—a place where secrets too dangerous for data files were stored in coded genetic encryption and crystalline memory strands.Zain turned slowly, watching the chamber come to life. The biometric gates shimmered, projecting phantasmal images of Romanov ancestors. Suspended in an energy field at the center of the room was a crystalline orb—the Heart of Stavos.“This,” Zain whispered, “is where it all ends… and where it all begins again.”He pulled out a data-spike from his coat and

  • CHAPTER 162: Ashes of the Father

The Romanov mansion's control room dimmed, bathed in the dull amber hue of emergency lights. Harper’s voice crackled over the loudspeakers as she patched into all sectors of the estate.“Enemy strike force confirmed. Approaching from all known sectors north, east, and the hidden creek path. Coordinated pattern. They’re not probing. They’re coming.”Aiden stood at the center, his silhouette cast against the main screen where Orlov’s face, twisted by age and vengeance, dominated the feed. The man who once tried to eradicate the Romanovs now marched beside Zain the traitorous blood who once swore loyalty as family.“They want to bury our name in the ashes of betrayal,” Aiden muttered. “But they’ve underestimated the fire they’ve just walked into.”Lorenzo entered, dressed in tactical armor, still regal despite the weight of the years.“They’ve surrounded the estate, but they don’t know we’re expecting them,” he said. “Let’s give them a welcome worthy of the Romanov legacy.”Silvana, stan
