Chapter ten

My book shook slightly and my heart pounded.

If you asked me a few weeks back to give that amount of money I could have laid it down in a heartbeat. But now, I was just some guy in a fancy suit who was not having up to that amount in his account.

Maybe I should have stopped.

Walk away and pretend like the money was nothing but I knew it would only make the matter worse. The students , were going to come for my head. Especially Derek's friends.

I needed to do something. I noticed the room was hot even though the A/c was on.

" Can I have a moment?" I looked at the auctioneer who burst into laughter as if he could see through my brave face.

" You don't have much time,Mr Jason. I expect you to be back soon." He said

I bounce off the podium with alot of gaze falling on me. I could hear the snippets of their laugters and words.

" Do you think he has up to that amount with him?"

" Why don't he say something if he does?"

" I bet he is going to ask his grandmother for some money."

" The trinket doesn't cost that much. Derek is just trying to have him humiliated."

I looked back to see the golden trinket and I wonder if it was worth the value I was going to be paying for it.

If the system came to my aid. My gaze locked on Olivia and she blew me a kiss.

I let out a smile in form of a smirk and kept walking. My head bowed as I tried to evade the eye that were falling on me.

You know when you try your best to be in the spotlight. And when you finally do, you start regretting that you tried so hard.

That was me at the moment.

I walked into the toilet and jammed the door right behind me. I let out a loud heave. With my gaze landing on my phone.

I browse through to see the mysterious gaming app but to my surprise. It was gone.

" Fuck! I am screwed!" I said almost in tears.

The name I was trying to build. The image of me taking back my spot on the campus was finally going down the drain.

I knew I was going to be the subject of mockery if Derek wins the auction.

I need to do something.

Anything.

I grabbed my phone and went into online loan.

I even d******d some loan sharks number trying to get as much money as I can but most of then rejected my offers. My stomach rumbled. Not from eating junks but from the fear of failing Olivia.

I was sure she must have dragged to her friends that I was not some poor students. That I have been hiding who I really was.

" Just please, just help me this once." I said shoving my phone to the ground clasping my hands with my eyes closed.

I waited for like twenty minutes but nothing happened. Instead I heard my name being called by the auctioneer and I jumped to my feet.

I went to the tap and rinse my face.

I need to put on a brave face but I dont know for how long. But nevertheless, I need to show Derek I wasn't scared.

I dmt know if I should have said I was brave or being stupid.

I walked out and the whole students cheered in unison. Some who had been waiting for someone to walk up to Derek. A scape goat that was going to librate the from his terror.

I was that scale goat and it looked like I was going to bear the pain and punishment for them all.

I walked up to on the podium again and Derek looked at me almost laughing. " Weelre you crying, poor boy." He taunted with the microphone closer to hit mouth.

The students bursted into laughter. looked at the screen and di could see thousand of student watching.

Each wondered what was really going to happen.

" You call, Mr Jason. The last call we had was one hundred thousand dollars." The auctioneer looked at me. " You can of course fold if you think you cannot afford it and Mr Derek here wins."

A part of me wanted to fold. There was no shame in trying. I tried and I lost but I know Olivia will never beine again. She was the only thing that I could use to make Dekre jealous.

" What do you say, Mr Jason?" The auctioneer looked at me again.

I clenched my phone in my hands, my ears attentive hoping to ear that sound.

But I. was waiting in vain. The hall was silent. Each students gaze fixed on me.

" Two hundred thousand dollars!" I said looking at Derek and the smile disappeared from his face.

" Two hundred thousand dollars! Looks like we are back in business. Two hundred thousand dollars and we are counting." The auctioneer said with a smile on his face.

" Are you kidding me? Do you even have that money you just called?" Derek said with vermin.

My heart beat fast. I knew he was going to pull a fast one on me.

What if he wanted to see the money in my account?

What if he asked the auctioneer to ask me to drop the money?

What if he change he mode if the auction?

What am I going to do then?

A lot of questions popped up in my head while I thought of every possible way to answer them.

" Do you think you are smart? You went to the toilet to get a few loans, and you think you can just spray the money around like you are some rich kids?" Derek taunted.

"Not when I am here. Why don't we raise the bid a little higher, shall we?" Derek said and looked at the auctioneer before he called the most ridiculous price ever.

My heart broke into a million pieces at the sound of the money I heard.
