Chapter one.
“Miracle doctor! Miracle doctor! Miracle doctor!” The crowd chanted as Ethan was about to leave the Edward mansion. “Don't leave, please,” Victoria pleaded, her voice cracking. "We were wrong to doubt you. Please forgive us,” Victoria begged, but Ethan ignored her and kept walking. Victoria, a young CEO who has stolen the heart of high-profile men and also the eldest daughter of the Edward's family pushed her way through the crowd. Ethan had to stop when someone grabbed his hands. She knelt down holding Ethan's leg. “Please, forgive us. Don't leave us in times of our need, we apologize for underestimating you,” she sobbed. But Ethan rolled his eyes, he was disgusted at the fact that they didn't think twice before they had let the other doctors insult him. He was about to move, but Victoria held the legs tight, as she nudged her other family members to kneel with her. “Please heal my grandfather, he's all we got. We apologize for doubting your perspective earlier. We will do anything you demand as long as you heal my grandfather.” Ethan chuckled as he spoke. “Anything?!” He asked, and Victoria nodded. She wasn't thinking straight, all she wanted at this moment was just to heal her grandfather. And from what she had gathered only Ethan could do it. Earlier when they had invited him to heal the old man, the other doctors refused to go with Ethan's idea, saying he was young, and this sickness was one of his kind and since Ethan does not have a lot of experience about life he should shut up and get the fuck out. Ethan got pissed off and left angrily. His gaze landed at Victoria's green eyes and his heart softened as he lifted her up and wiped her tears. He had come to treat Sir Edward because of his old relationship with him. But they treated him badly, and he swore never to treat the old man again, even if the whole Edward family comes with all their wealth. But seeing Victoria kneeling and apologizing wholeheartedly made him doubt his initial plan. Left with no choice, he cleared his throat: “fine! I will go back and treat the old man. However this time around, for free.” Everyone gasped, and the crowd began to chant, “Miracle doctor! Miracle doctor!” Victoria stood up immediately. “Thank you…..thank you,” Victoria said, wiping her tears. Her face lit up with joy. She could not imagine her grandfather dying just like that. She bowed deeply, her forehead nearly touching her knees. Ethan followed the butler back to Edward's room. They got to the room and the three doctors were eyes widened as they saw Ethan. Their faces paled, shock etched on their features. “We didn't think you would return,” one of the doctors said. Ethan chuckled, ignoring them which only got them pissed off. They hated the fact that Ethan was always taking their shine. But they decided that not this time because they needed to be in the good books of the Edward's family for power. One of them eyes darted to Victoria. “Bringing him here won't solve anything. Yes, I know they call him Miracle doctor,’’ he said, rolling his eyes in disgust. “But the old man's sickness isn't the regular one. It's an ancient one. I think this one is the ancestors calling him. “How dare you? My father won't die! The miracle doctor is here, watch him save my father.” The doctors chuckled. “Miracle doctor indeed! Same miracle doctor who almost lost his life when he had the same sickness? He should thank his stars he's young, if not, he would have had the same fate as Sir Edward.” Everyone gasped. They could not believe their ears that Ethan had once had this sickness. The family members began to murmur to themselves that what if he's a fake miracle doctor who goes around taking people's money? The doctor continued, making the family members more worried. “It's already late, it's better we arrange his funeral than waiting for him.” “Let’s not write him off yet.” Ethan said. The doctors rolled their eyes. “Drop this act. You are not even qualified to treat a patient in Sir Edward's condition. How do you intend to heal him? Do you think you are smarter than we? Ethan, you are no longer as young as you used to be. Get that in your damn skull loser!” Ethan clenched his fist trying to control himself from getting angry. “If I heal him, what will you give me?” He asked the doctors. “We will bow before you, and affirm your name ‘Miracle doctor'” they responded, their voice tinged with sarcasm. “Accepted.” Ethan said. One of the family members got irritated and said, “Can you really heal our grandfather? Or you are here to waste our time!” One of the family members asked Ethan. Ethan's eyes darted to him, his expression unreadable, and he shifted his gaze back to the old man. “I doubt if he can do anything,” someone said, and then another person chimed in. “His silence speaks to everything. He can't do it, he just wasted our time.” “Enough!” Victoria shouted, closing her eyes and her hands around her ears. She opened her eyes slowly, all eyes were on her. She walked up to Ethan, her heart beating fast as she swallowed hard. “Can…. Can…..you….heal….my…. Grandfather?” She asked, voice cracking. Ethan did not respond, he pushed her aside slightly as he turned around and walked to the door. The doctors smiled mischievously, they were happy they had chased Ethan. Victoria's eyes darted between her dying grandfather to Ethan, and she stood In Front of the door. “Are you giving up on my grandfather? Are you going to just leave him to die? I thought they said you are the miracle doctor, show us what you got!” Ethan kept walking, ignoring her, until he got to the door. He removed a needle from his pocket, turned around and threw it at the old man's forehead. Everyone gasped. “What are you doing?!” Victoria shouted angrily. “You are going to kill him!,” another one chimed in. Ethan's expression was unreadable as he ran towards the old man. Before anyone could understand what was going on, Ethan reached the old master, Edward who was lying on the bed and punched him hard on his chest.Latest Chapter

Ethan stood there—right behind her—arms loose at his sides, face calm as stone.Victoria’s eyes widened. The gun jerked back up for half a second before she forced it down again.“You—” Her voice cracked. “You were supposed to come through the door.”“I changed the plan.” Ethan’s tone was even. Almost gentle. “You need to be more alert, Victoria. If I can slip up behind you that easily, Jack will eat you alive.”Victoria’s shoulders dropped. A long, shaky sigh slipped out of her—like she’d been holding her breath underwater for minutes. The pistol trembled in her hands. She lowered it slowly, barrel pointing at the carpet. The room stayed silent. Too silent.Ethan stepped past her. “I need to use the bathroom. Stay here. Don’t move.”He walked into the attached bathroom and closed the door. The lock clicked.Victoria stood frozen in the middle of the dark bedroom. The Glock felt heavier now. Her pulse still hammered in her ears. She turned toward the vanity again, trying to steady her

“One of my men just told me something interesting.” Victoria’s stomach dropped but she kept her face still. Her heart pounded as she hoped her secret had not been leaked out. Ethan watched her eyes. Searching. “Jack escaped.” She let out a big sigh of relief she never knew she was holding. Victoria blinked once. “Escaped?” “Three hours ago. He took a pistol and vanished into the scrub.” She swallowed. “How?” “Doesn’t matter how. He’s out. And he’s coming.” Ethan reached inside his jacket. Pulled out a small, matte-black Glock 43. The tiny pistol looked almost delicate in his palm. He glanced around and then pressed it into her hand. Her fingers closed around the grip automatically. Cold metal. Familiar weight. “Hide it,” he said. “Waistband. Small of your back. Easy draw.” Victoria stared at the gun, then at him. “Why are you giving me this?” “Because tonight, when we get home, you’re going to pretend.” With that, they got into the car and drove off. The

The black SUV rolled through the capital streets at 6:12 p.m. Rain streaked the tinted windows.Ethan sat in the back, arms crossed, staring straight ahead. Victoria sat beside him. Red dress still on from the night before. Makeup perfect. Expression blank.Neither spoke. The driver didn’t dare look in the rearview. They pulled up to the mansion gates. Iron swung open without a sound. The car stopped at the front steps.Ethan got out first. Didn’t offer a hand.Victoria stepped out behind him. Heels clicked on wet stones.Secret Service agents stiffened when they saw him. They parted without a word. Inside the ballroom, crystal chandeliers threw light across two hundred suits and gowns. The President’s party fundraiser was in full swing. Laughter. Clinking glasses. Fake smiles. Ethan walked straight through the crowd. People stepped aside. Whispers followed him like smoke. He stopped at the center table. The President sat there, flanked by the Party Chairman and three advisors.

Ethan pushed the bedroom door open without knocking. The room was quiet. He glanced around. Victoria’s silk robe lay crumpled across the foot of the bed. Her dress from dinner was folded neatly on the chair. He stepped inside and closed the door with his heel. His eyes swept the space once, twice. Bathroom door shut. Water running. He moved fast. He lifted the robe first—nothing underneath. Then the dress—pockets empty. He crouched, checked under the bed, under the mattress edge. His fingers found the hidden compartment in the vanity almost by instinct. It was empty. He straightened, jaw tight. His gaze landed on the nightstand. Her phone sat there, screen dark, charging cable coiled beside it. He picked it up. The lock screen showed the time: 11:47 p.m. He swiped. No passcode. She never bothered with one on this phone. Arrogant. Or maybe she wanted him to look. He opened the messaging app. Nothing unusual. Weather updates. Calendar reminders. A dry-cleaning confirm

Chapter 176.Downstairs, Ethan poured a glass of whiskey. He didn't drink it. He held the cool glass and stared at the amber liquid. The image of her tears, her clenched hands, played behind his eyes. The anger was a cold, living thing in his stomach. He had decided to let it slide. But the decision felt wrong. It felt weak.He set the glass down with a sharp crack. He turned and took the stairs back up two at a time. He did not knock. He opened the bedroom door.Victoria was still on the bench. She looked up, startled. Her mask of calm was back, but it was fragile, like cracked glass.Ethan closed the door. The room felt suddenly smaller, charged.“The headache,” he said, his voice low. “Is it gone?”She nodded. “Yes. I’m better.”He walked toward her slowly. Each step was deliberate. “You’re a terrible liar, Victoria.”She stood up, a defensive movement. “I’m not lying.”He stopped in front of her. He was so close she could see the flecks of gold in his cold eyes. “You went out t

The rain tapped a gentle rhythm against the bedroom window. Victoria sat on the edge of the bed, her shoulders shaking. Silent tears carved hot paths down her cheeks. She made no sound. The only evidence was the slow, steady fall of drops onto the back of her clasped hands. The door opened. She heard his footsteps. She drew in a sharp, quiet breath. Her hands flew to her face, wiping furiously at her eyes. She straightened her spine, composing her features by the time he rounded the bed to face her.Ethan stood there, watching her. He saw the redness around her eyes, the slight dampness on her lashes. He saw the way her hands were clenched too tightly in her lap. A cold anger lived in his chest towards her, a solid, heavy thing. But seeing her like this—fragile, trying so hard to hide it—made something else flicker.“Are you fine?” he asked. His voice was neutral, not warm, but not accusing.Victoria nodded, too quickly. “I’m fine.” Her voice was a little thick. She cleared her thr
