Victoria turned to him. “You’re joking,” she said.

He shook his head. “I’m dead serious.”

Her eyes widened.

“Do you even understand what this means? Do you know what you’re doing to yourself?”

Before he could answer, the crowd erupted, chanting, “Miracle Doctor! Miracle Doctor!” over and over.

Victoria gripped Ethan’s hands tightly.

“Don’t listen to them,” she urged. “You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone. You already won the war, that’s what matters most. Don’t you get it?” she barked, her voice sharp with frustration.

Ethan’s gaze swept over the crowd, their faces filled with hope and desperation. His jaw tightened, but he didn’t look away.

“I have to do this,” he said firmly.

Victoria shook her head, her grip tightening as if she could physically hold him back.

“No, you don’t! This isn’t bravery, it’s suicide!” Her voice trembled, a mix of anger and fear.
